  1. Thats damn good for a basic. It's only .80 less than what I make as a medic.
  2. We use RSI (Succinylcholine and Vecuronium) at my service in OK and Arkansas has approved it for introductory field study among approved services.
  3. Does the ziamatic raise it back into place as well?
  4. I was being sarcastic as to the state and variations of EMS per service and per state. In AR many services are required to continue cpr if it is in progress and if measures are started, transport is required as well. Here in OK we may stop with Med Ctrl approval and we must notify PD or SO of all DOAs and the ME's office must be contacted on every death by LE.
  5. Rid I just wanted to tell you, Rodney, and Leaugeay thank you for all you are doing for Oklahoma EMS. I know I live in AR and only work over here but it really is great that someone is addressing the problem. We are an ILS service with mainly paramedic coverage and individual protocols. I think part of the problem is nobody wants to work for 20-30,000 a year after going to school anymore. I know that accompanied with the 16/24 and the fact that we are salaried with one monthly payday instead of monthly and two are major probs here right now. We have a couple of slots open and we cannot find anyone to fill them. We placed an ad and only two people showed.
  6. Because Mike as you well know, not every service is allowed to stop and call in the field. This varies state to state and service to service. Many services in AR do not have death in field protocol but my last one did as we were all sworn deputy coroners for that reason.
  7. I was thinking the same thing in regards to rural areas Spenac. If it is affordable it might be a good solution. Also, have you seen the GE commerical where the guy in India has the EKG machine that is backpack size and like a small tablet PC? Might be something worthwhile too.
  8. The ABN is a form for Medicare that looks like this: http://www.cms.hhs.gov/BNI/Downloads/CMSR131G.pdf This form is supposed to be used when the medic feels like Medicare will not pay for the transport and the pt still wants to be transported by EMS. You have to write the services that MC prob will not pay for, get an estimated cost for service, then have the pt check opt 1 or 2. Its a pain in the ass but its something we have to do religiously now. There is also a push for this form to become a standard for medicaid and private ins as well...
  9. Advanced Beneficary Notice Form usage.
  10. We use the Indura by Westex pants and jacket when responding to: 1. vehicle crash with entrapment, 2. rescue situation, 3. industrial response (coal mines, strip pits, oil and gas wells, and several other styles of industry. We must have helmet, jacket, pants zipped and suspenders adjusted. If inside a vehicle or industrial use, we must have shield down and helmet strap secured. We use the Allmed AVC helmet with front shield and ringers gloves. This is what they all look like: 1. Indura by Westex- royal blue with yellow reflective bands, just like this except for its two piece: http://www.urbanhart.com/shopsite/media/pr...H-AFJS003-2.gif 2. Allmed AVC helmet- http://www.allmed.net/allmed-avc-helmet/index.html 3. Ringers EMS gloves- http://firefighteroneonline.com/ff1/index....ge&pID=1981 For a standard jacket that we are required to wear in all low light situations and MVCs we use the Allmed Ultra X jacket- http://www.allmed.net/allmed-jacket/index.html We also have an ANSI class II rain slicker with the service name on the back. We are required to carry all of this in a gear bag made by Iron Duck that is provided as well: http://www.ironduck.com/catalog.epl?ProductID=128 The gear bag is to be on the truck with us at all times during our shift and taken home when the shift ends.
  11. My service is considering both of these and I was wondering how many use them and how well they perform. http://www.vitaid.com/usa/boussignac/index2.html http://www.lifemedicalsupplier.com/index.p...age&pID=474
  12. Our service just bought us wildland style gear that is a blue and yellow-green color pants and jacket that say EMS Medic on the back, the AVC Allmed Helmets, and ringers gloves. The blue makes us stand out a bit.
  13. Two EMS services near my location run extrication as well. One has a special unit for it with certified individuals. The second service has three units to cover the county and it carries extrication equipment on each unit. It is a double medic truck and one starts cutting while the other assumes patient care. I cannot remember if they have dual spreader and cutters but I do know that both services have Milwaukee Sawzalls. Since there are few VFDs that have tools they do their own. It works for them.
  14. When the Zoll monitor would go on the fritz at one of the services I use to work for, everyone was A-Fib with RVR. Now with a population of 86,000 and every single pt we ran a 12 lead on...good ol doc in the box  . lol
  15. I fully agree with this advice Dust. I had to leave EMS while in medic school and commend anyone that can make it thru and stay on the truck, but I just could not.
  16. Anyone know the reason? Is it to treat the drunkenness/hangover? or is there another reason? Any benefit to doing it in someone who is not a chronic abuser of EtOH?
  17. Do they fit better? How about in the crotch area where most pants are worn thin? What about the cold and wind? Do they repel well? I keep my wallet, scissors, cell phone, and a quick reference paramedic guide in mine. I usually wear proppers which are nice and cheap ( a helluva lot cheaper to replace then my protuffs are) and they have two back, two front, two side and the scissor insert and they are comfortable for me.
  18. Pope Co EMS in Russellville, AR wears polyester uniform pants, white "airline" shirts and poly jackets that are dark navy in color. It sucks and makes it hard to see them and I don't know many of them that would not rather have ems pants.
  19. Yes indeed Good ol Multi Vitamin, Thiamine, Folic Acid, and the occasional Mag Sulfate to make someones night.
