Full respects for those individuals working in the field with such great challenges of those challenges that deal with on top of being medics.Another example of making life what you want it to be. I applaud them.

Caroline Ambulance which is a vol service takes EMR's on their trucks, East Central Ambulance Association also hires EMR's. That service is on paper a volunteer service but you get paid. Otherwise working EMS as an EMR is very difficult. I would move on and continue education to get your EMT or like you said earlier just work on the rigs. I was trying to see if there is a thred started on this. I didnt find anything even tho I would assume for to have already been started. If not...what are some songs that you think describe EMS, code songs etc...

With the one service we covered just over 2,000 sq miles. We always had 6 crews on call but whether we were all in our hall thats a different story...

I honestly cant imgine picking up someone in the emergency services. It would hit home and just be a very strange pt to have.

Not me and thank God not anyone I know. Have picked up suicide attempts and started to think about "what would happen if it was one of us?" and what would happen because of the field that we are in. Thanks for the input! Hope to get more replies

Hey guys for those of you out in Alberta as well as any one of you who have info. I have been wondering how governing bodies such as ACP here in alberta would react to an EMS provider committing suicide or also a provider who has at some point of time attempted suicide. Would ACP allow them to get back to work if they were to decide months/years down the road to come back(after putting their life back together)? would they maybe be considered mentally unstable and not allowed to come back to the profession? Those of you who are in the states, what would happen there? I have always wondered that. Being in the field that we are in working with the public would we be treated differently?? :? :?:

"they don't belong in this profession" "they don't belong on the bus". I FIND THAT VERY DISRESPECTFUL Can they work on the ambulance? No, I don't believe these individuals should be able to for the same reasons that have already been listed BUT saying that "they don't belong in this profession" "they don't belong on the ambulance" is very rude. Yes I am on the road to becoming deaf myself which is why I'm responding to this post. My months (hope years) are numbered and the day that I realized I can no longer provide a 100% accurate reading I will pull myself off the units but it doesn't mean I DON'T BELONG IN THE PROFESSION. :evil:

I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions as to some non-EMS courses (english. or others..maybe) that would be good to take before I apply for my paramedic. I'm wanting to add courses to my resume because its pretty competitive out here trying to get into medic programs. While I try to get more experience I may as well take some courses. Thank you Jeep

Out here we have given ice cubes to our patients. As long as they could maintain their own airway at the time it was offered. Of course there were times when we were transferring patients for treatments then return or if they went in with a chance of getting surgery then of course they wouldnt get anything.

You're lucky out here(calgary) our stretchers are loaded a lot more than that. They put you with a partner and with a very heavy dummy have you go up and down 2 flights of stairs, going backwards one way and face forward the other. Best of Luck 8)

Age limit?? I think it all has to do with experience and if lack of, the willingness to catch on it. Also has to do with the maturity level. I'm 20, turning 21 next month and I have to admit as much as I like to think I have experience BUT I really don't have a lot and as well all know is a never ending process anyways. As was said earlier there are some really immature older individuals as well as very mature youngsters....all has to do with the individual.

not to try to sell a treatment on line here or anything but the first thing I have to say is take a look at this site:www.gordonpomarescentre.com next.... I have worked with dozens to not say hundreds of autistic kids and not one kid presented the same. Some autistic kids will do everything you say, without knowing why and therefor could be managed. Others as in your case are more difficult. I can only say what I would do at my level of care which isn't actually much. How old is that child? (I apologize if you already mentioned it and I missed it). Depending on the size of that individual it is a possibility that I would do much for my safety as some children are aggressive. Answer: These kids for the most part do not know that you are there and do not understand what is going on around them so if the kid doesn't get freaked out by the lights and equipment, a gentle touch and slow "loving" approach is the only way I would have to treat the kid. Restraining an autistic would do nothing but injure them more and cause some serious issues in the future...or...like I said take a look at that site I sent you and basically cure you're child's autism. Sorry Im this blunt with my last statement but no one CAN argue it until they have taken a look and tried that program. Amen 8)
