Talk to them, politely tell them what you think-tell them the truth. Sounds like burn-out. Also talk to your supervisor. Document everything, do you have incident reports. Maybee change partners. Also in some states they allow the medic to drive and the basic to tech the call. That is if it is a basic call. Or tell him you would like to help and tech all the basic calls. That is if its allowed. I have been partnered with the partner from hell, and another I called Queen of the sign-offs. Or SNR Sign and refusal. I mean this girl (I was a emt-I at the time) would leap at a chance to get a sign off. Just my 2 cents. I always have problems with the crispy nurses who make you wait to 30-60 minutes to give report. instead of getting mad, I would hook them up to the hospital moniter, start another IV, do paperwork ect when the nurse showed up I would kill her with kindness. Sorry about the Rant, I hope I did not offend anyone, I simply meant two things. If I died today, what would people say about me. also people these days are suffering from lack of common courtesy. The guy just Died and people-because of 1 report-are calling him a crackhead. If you havent heard the Family is requesting another Autopsy. Well with the shortage of bees i keep reading about, I would choose a non violent method. unless there are african bees. then I would terminate with extreme predjudice. Most animals dont mess with you unless you mess with them. since there are swarming near your house, google it and see what comes up, but if youhave to kill find the queen bee and get rid of her. then the bees might leave. Lived with this every day while SAR flight medic with marines, unfortunately in the military your trained the patient comes first. had alot of friends die in crashes.- had to go to crash sites and put them in body bags. had to become fatalistic. when your time was up, your time was up. other wise if you thought to much, you end up in rubber room. As far as 911 ambulance had a partner have a seizure, another pass out from IDDM. Since this getleman died during a code, i am sure he is shaking hands with Jesus right now. If your going to die, buying the farm helping someone isnt such a bad way to go. My sympathy to Family's of both people. If this happens to me, you can only do what you have to work with. I am going to work in Afganistan, for the DOD, so I will probably be stuck in a far away base, playing rickey rescue for the ARMY. No drinking allowed. Thats a cuture shock. The other job i was offered was a hospital transfer job. 3 man crew, plus a pt. I am the only guy speaking english. hows that for a one sided conversation. Going to learn Aribic/Farsi lingo real quick. Cheers, be safe. boy we sure have some sensitive people on this blog-dont dish it out if you cant take it. I was just speaking in general, you know the old saying Dont speak ill of the dead. As far as toxicology reports-once again I dont think they are supposed to release that info to the public. As far as the test on the drunk lady going down the wrong way and killing people. On my previous jobs I had to move every 3 years-basically start over. So when I moved I always tried to fit in. After a while I noticed people all react differently to new people-alot of folks say if they dont know someone they dont trust them especially in EMS. wait a while. see what happens. lots of people have two faces- one how theyn act with unknown folks then how they ct with their friends. Show them your a good medic-but try to stay out of the politics.

Good luck in NC-I lived there for 6 years. I have been unemployed since Jan 09 also- looks like I will be going to Afganistan to work as a medic at a Army base. Or maybee a remote medic. It all boils down to PT care comes first- also Do no harm to pt. 2 jobs ago my boss told me not to discuss a girl who was working on a expired license. Called me at 2030 at night and chewed my butt. Told me I should shut up. I quit on the spot. Its a felony in my state to knowingly let someone work like this. Wouldnt do that again. Unemployed for 7 months afterward. You did the right thing. Lots of monday morning quarterbacks out there. Your boss is suffering from CRI-cranial rectal inversion. Plus he knows his pt care sucked on that call. I worked in Flint MI for 3 months, the first time I took the 02 in with the moniter and drug box- my partner looked at me like i was crazy. There attitude is bad there. Unless the person is a code they say its dangerous to stay and play. high crime areas.

Our State is trying to improve intubation results, everyone IE Medics must perform at least 12 tubes a year. I work for a private EMS, but the problem I see in the City is alot of medics are getting lazy, one shot at the tube- then here comes the combi tube. I saw a truamatic arrest come in the other night. Motercycle 70 MPH hit a cement wall. The medics stuck a OPA in bagged him, did half ass CPR going in to the code room. No BB straps No C collar. needless to say the Docs went apeshit when they brought him in BLS on a ALS rig. I foresee licensure getting yanked or suspeneded. But if you cant stand the heat-time to leave the kitchen./or burning building if your a fireman. be safe cheers.

We were taught assesment, but needless to say when i graduated 14 years ago I was going through one of the local medic mills here in the great state of Michigan. I think we spent one day on intubation, and then I did my regular 5 in the OR. Thats it. Plus My last job was transfers- and a occasional 911 back up from the city of Detroit, MI. Needless to say I only ran about 10 codes in a year. Got 6 out of 10 tubes. 60 percent- not the best record. But I am taking a recert class for NREMT. It goes without saying, If you dont use it,you lose it. I will listen to any one with more experience, my ego is not that big. Not yet anyway. Thanks for all input, Be safe Cheers.

I have never heard of this- thanks alot for the info. I got out of medic school- the rehash classes I take are poorely staffed. people stand in front of you and read the medic book like its the Bible. and in Michigan, recert is every 3 years. The private companies in my area are big on little pay, and they dont like to fork over money for good recert teachers. The last company I worked for had no training classes for over 1 and 1/2 year periods. not kidding. Stay safe. Cheers. I try to do it on my own, IE reading these blogs I learn alot. Thanks for the tips- I will try all. As far as saves go I have not had one yet. I have had 2 ROSC but they were Brain dead. Family pulled the plug afterwards. Try e-mail to embassy. They might know someone. Look up the Hospitals, call them, when I was there back in 85-86 their lifeflight helicoptors were loaded with all the best equipement. Vents on helicopters- ect ect. Military helos had the all the good stuff long before our military had it. Of course they also had chicken wire over the bus windows so no one could chuck a bomb in them. Be safe. Cheers.

I dont know aboput you guys/gals out there, but I cant remember the last time I had a code of a adult that they were the normal size, ie 70 kilos and a regular size neck/airway. Now I always tend to get big people and its time to press some serious weight when I lift the scope with my left hand. any thoughts on this.? Be safe cheers?
