  1. Watching bringing out the dead with Nicolas cage. No wonder it did not do so well at box office. You have to be a medic fireman or cop to really apreciate this movie.
  2. I thank you both, both good reponses. I wont accept until I get some good info about the job. The lady I talked to was just the human resouce lady and did not apear to know aboput the ems aspects. Thanks. Run fast-think small-pray the other guy is a bad shot. Dont step on anything that goes boom. Like we used to say in the Persian Gulf-look on the bright side, there isnt one.
  3. OK folks need some help on a pay scale problem, I got offered a job to work in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, They want me to work a echo unit ALS 911 in the UP. So basically I would show up on scene, do my ALS thing and load in a ambulance and transport to the hospital. Problem is salary? I dont have a bloody clue what the normal rate of pay would be. Thay said in a 24 hour shift I would get a flat rate pay. Then when I get a call the pay scale would jump during the call. Any body ever work like this. Dont know the call volume, but the area is near Marquette MI. Ant ideas folks. on what a pay scale should be?
  4. I was in the middle east for a bit, I would just like to point out that back in the day- the difference was Muslims say submit, Jesus said decide.Bit of a conflict there in itself. My 2 cents. So basically if the muslim invaders conquered your city, you had to covert, or they would kill you. I could be wrong though, but thats the gist of it. from what i read in and about the middle east they have trhe regious freedoms we have. A pamplet i read about a job at the middle east said you cannot practice your christian religion while you live in certain parts of the middle east.
  5. No thats not the place, its a private that called me. I will PM you in a day or two and let you know. I will know more this thursday at 6 pm. How is Arizona these days, my ex girlfriend moved there because her mom was ill, she need a dryer climate. I here certain places are now the wild wild west.? Drug cartel and all. Thanks be safe. Remember run fast , stay low, pray the other guy is a bad shot. and dont step on anything that goes boom. SAR Corpsman motto. Cheers.
  6. Place up in Marquette, not a sure thing yet, but it looks good.
  7. Hey folks, got a job offer in the upper peninsula of michigan. Any you folks know anyone or know about the companies that are up in the UP of Michigan?. I would be a Echo unit working with volunteers and MFR'S. Thanks.
  8. Well So you called me a idiot- so what. I have been called worse. The Stable or unstable is just a protocol. I tend to oversimplfy my protocols. Every pt is different. You have to take in account History, Meds, allergies ect ect. Asking opinions on a scenario is training. Just to call someone a idiot because you dont agree is a bit much. But everyone is entitled to their opinion. When I am working and I hear other medics talking trash about a call that they heard about. I ask them, were you there? no then shut up. Now if someone called me a poo-poo head or a farty face- then thems fighting words. Then I would get mad. But idiot. that has a nice ring to it.
  9. Both my codes were At night, I work in a inner city- lots of afican americans- In dark skinned people of any race Its hard to see blue mottling on the trunk at night in the dark- with just a small flashlight. Found out about the lividity after I tried to open airway, jaw was very difficult to move. Also I work in detroit MI. Our protocols are we work everyone unless obvious mortifcation. Also our med control doctor does not think too highly of medics. About a year ago we just got pain meds in our drug box. Detroit recieving is a teaching hospital for doctors and they want the interns to see and do alot for the patients. Technically we cant ask permission to terminate efforts. Our protocols are way behind the times. Just about all surrounding counties think the medics from wayne county area bunch of morons due to our limited protocols. The odds of use getting RSI in our protocols are slim and none. I have a new job waiting in Florida, in aboyt 2 months I will be in a better situation. Thank God.
  10. I worke on a transport ambulance, I am 0-2. Now in my defence both patients had Lividity. Both were at night, and they were african americans, Now I agree about the practice makes perfect. But from what I am hearing- New ACLS standards say use more time on Defib, O2, king airway and high compression rates. So by the old statdards I basically suck at intubation.
  11. Sorry chbare, No glasses on when I posted, wrong blog, wrong name. Sorry about that. My apologies. Thats 0-2 I am batting. As we say in ther states, my bad. I apoligize.
  12. At first I thought the show was a crock, but if you watch it, the message is ther is always hope. sure the story lines a re a crock, but I m,yself always feel good after watching a episode.
  13. currently am between jobs, so to all my buddies. I am back Ha Ha. To all my critics, break out the rolaids.
  14. If your in this job for money, your working in the wrong job. Amen!
  15. The reason I will have a nursing degree is because I sighned a contract when I started school. I used my Hospital Corpsman experience to enter a nursing program for paramedics. However I tried to get out of it and they wont let me drop out. They want my money. So I have no choice but finish it. After working in the ER and dealing with drauma queen nurses and burned out nurses .I missed the road. Saw many a paramedic fired because the nurses took everthing personnel. Decided I dont like that type of cutthroat medicine. Thanks for all the info though. Cheers.
  16. Thanks I am curerently planning on finishing my nursing degree- in about 1 year. The pay looks a whole lot better then here in Michigan. Got offered 10.50 a hour at my last interview. Have a new job in Florida in January. Once I move to Florida I will finish my nursing degree and then hopefully recontact people on this Blog. Always wanted to visit New Zealand, thanks for your help. As far as experience, I was a Naval flight medic for 10 years, experienced 1 st gulf war, 90-91, then I have been a medic for 14 years, 8 years on the road, and 6 months as a triage medic. While in the Military I was a Combat medic, sickcall corpsman, and a anesthesia technician. Cheated death for 6 years flying combat SAR. Search and Rescue. Once again thanks for info. I like challenges and I like tough standards, otherwise if it was easy, anyone could do it. Cheers.
  17. Sorry about it being on the UK forum but they dont have a New Zealand forum. Thanks for all the info. Cheers. Thanks for all the help, the area I live in currently is not very progresive 911 area. Have to do alot of Mother may I to get med orders. and lots of time if the doctors dont know you, they say monitor the pt and transport. Sad but true. Dont know much about sheep, but i like to travel and see the world. saw a report that said New Zealand id a good place to visit. Am I confused? probably am, sniffed to much nearve agent in the first gulf war. Good tx for clogged nasal nares. Good Luck, cheers. Whats the pay like?
  18. Just wonder if any New Zealand medics out there. Saw a postion posing on the net. What quals are needed to work there.? Thanks for any info. Cheers. Sorry about the spelling. I know first I have to learn how to spell before I ask for a Visa.
  19. I tend to simplify it, is it stable or unstable? Stable use drugs, unstable- cook em, or cardiovert.
  20. I went to a job interview for a gig in a city in MI., Got offered 10.50 a hour to start. Since the drive was 2 1/2 hours away. I did not take the job. Whats the pay like elsewhere?
  21. I always stop at wrecks during working hours- my last one I got flagged down- 10-20 people yelling at me plus even a guy blowing a whistle at us. 40 y/o gentleman accidently got backed over by a cadilac twice. Yes twice-person was probably drunk. Anyway this poor soul- had no feeling below his shoulders. Big time neuro deficits. Called on the radio to nearest trauma center- they asked eta and I told them look out your window. His LOC dropped as we pulled in. Tried to find out what happened to him but he was a john Doe, no ID. Turns out he was standind inbetween cars in front of the local watering hole. I must say I was very carefull putting a collar on this guy and holding c-spine. Detroit cops even helped log roll the guy. That was a First, Hope he recovered. I was wondering more about off duty stops. Be safe cheers.
  22. While driving down the highway, I saw a real nasty car vs car-head on MVA. I wanted to stop, my buddy said keep driving. I stopped anyway. Just did MFR stuff- any of you folks still stop at car wrecks.?
