AB Gap training question

Hey fellow canadians,

I am currently in Sask considering relocating to AB. To register as a EMT-A with ACofP other than registery test, do I need to take the gap training or something different for the 10-1 skills (or is it 12-1 skills)??

I have e-mailed them...No response

I have called them...Put on hold and forgotten

Did a search.....couldn't find these particular answers.

Thanks

Mobey

Yeah you'll need to take the Gap training and have your 12-1 skills. Both of these are included in any EMT course that is offered in alberta, but I dont know exactly what you have taken in Sask.

ACOP is a pain in the butt, and I'm really not suprised that they have ignored your attempts to contact them. However you should be able to find the info you need on their website collegeofparamedics.org

Good Luck.

I believe that you can challenge the EMT-A, however, I know quite a few people who fail the exam after coming from Sask because the scope is quite a bit higher than the PCP in sask.

Just really know your drugs and protocols, probably best is to take a emt refresher course here in Alta

Gap training is an expanded scope of practice for EMT's and Paramedics in AB. It allows EMT's to administer Nitro, ASA, Ventolin, Atrovent, and Epi (IM for anaphalaxis). I'm not completely sure what the expanded practice for paramedics includes.

Actually, as a SK PCP we can transport with antimicrobials and blood products, we can administer ASA, nitro, activated charcoal, oral glucose, epi pen......it has been a long time since I have followed the protocols for sk....I think that is all. Correct me if I am wrong.
