When you know you work too much

You know you're in EMS too long when the residents of the local care home think of you as family and send you cards on all the holidays, also if when you tell someone your name they don't know you but if you say it's the paramedic they know exactly who you are and where you live. Seriously my wife calls to order pizza and says to deliver it to the paramedic's house otherwise they don't know where to go. :D

When all small animals in your house understand what pager tones mean...

When you back into every parking spot you come to...

When your neighbors all ask your medical opinion on something because they've seen the ambulance at your house...

When someone tells you to "Have a nice day", you explain to them exactly what that would entail, and they vomit at your feet...

When your significant other tries to pick a fight with you and you can end it by palpating the landmarks for a subclavian/internal jugular IV...

When people don't know your name but know whose house you were at last night and how many times.

You use the station address to get your mail.

The phone at work is better to reach you at then at home.

You mowed the grass before you left for work and have to mow it again when you get home.

When you no longer know, or care, what day it is.

When you tell the days apart by what calls you ran.

You forgot what it is like to wear civilian clothes.

When you hear about a bad call and go "Cool, I missed out!"

When you know the locations of every house, mobile home, lake house, business, driveway, roadway, bridge and outhouse in town.

When you know the names of every person in town, including their cousins, sons, daughters, aunts, uncles, parents, and the family pet.

When people have your phone number on speed dial for their aches and pains questions.

When people call you before they call 911.

Its a test when you have to answer the questions "Last time you slept?", "Last time you ate?", Last time you had a day off".

You remember people by what was wrong with them, but can't remember their names.

You feel the need to call your significant other just to confirm your directions to the house.

You automatically awaken in the middle of the night, fearing you slept through a call, even on your days off.

When you refer to the ABC's as airway, breathing and " Can you walk to the truck? "

...when your kids' friends see you more than your own kids see you.

...when your family memebers hear tones go off, hand you the radio that's sitting on the counter and tell you to "be safe".

...when your family can SLEEP through tones going off in the middle of the night.
