Sharp object stuck in the body

tniuqs, when that incident happened, I was not yet in municipal employment, so in truth, I had no idea what equipment was, and was not, available to the FDNY.

As for not removing an impaled object, the stated objection was to the effect of something under the skin "catching" and causing further "insult" and damage when being removed, much as the Klingon knife (For the non "Star Trek" fans, that knife, on insertion, has 2 additional blades that swing out like barbs on a fish hook, from the main blade, causing immense damage on the knife's removal from the victim).

Putting back in an impaled object that already came out? I think I've only seen that as a plot device in a few TV shows and movies. Has anyone actually seen such in real, not "REEL", life, aside from tniuqs?

Guys, I'm a medic so I'm here asking, If I came across a person with a dull shiny object impaled in them, could I remove it? OR should I call an ambulance or what? I seem to have forgotten. But this one time in band camp.

You're funny! I've been out of EMS for a while and I still remember not to remove the object... but again... DEAD HORSE! :D

But what about the rectal probe of the alien ship that crashes and you get called to the scene and you find the abducted human with the probe still in. Do you remove it? How can you be sure there aren't any more probes that came off the initial probe sort of like the knife referenced in a post above like the klingon knife but it's an alien rectal probe. Removal or stabilization????

Now if you are immersed in the Matrix and you come across Neo and the spiders are getting close and he's about to be attacked and your only hope for humanities sake is to rescue NEo and get him out of the room but the probe is still in his head, do you remove it? or stabilize it?

I know dead horse but any one of these two thing could happen to any one of us here on the city. Apart from calling an ambulance which is a given, what do we do, the fate of humanity rests in the correct answer to both the above questions. Question number 1 the fate of the world and question number 2 the fate of the matrix.

You have to answer correctly. What do you do?

Hm... excellent question. ;)

I`d propably evaluate the situation, come to the conclusion that the world is fucked anyways, regardless of what I`d do - lean back, open a beer and light a cigarette and watch the big showdown. :coool:

I for one would leave the probe and go in service.

in the case of Neo, I would also leave the probe in, Screw Neo, I thought he was a jerk to begin with, let the spiders eat him.

I'll pop open a bunch of beers, open the back of the ambulance, start an IV and give myself and my partner the supply of fentanyl, versed, morphine and valium and whatever else we had because if those spiders are gonna kill Neo then they are gonna kill me to and I'm gonna be HIGH when I die because I don't think I can defend myself with an oxygen tank, a 14 guage needle and a vial of Sux. So when I die, I might as well fell good before I die.

To get the best possible answer I have rung up on the telephone machine for the helicopter.

We will soon have a Doctor in an orange suit arriving from the sky in a very loud apparatus so be of assistance.

OK all set? Good, we're off

Ambulance, Medevac airborne
