Silly your on a mountain, is there a lot of mountains in NYC and pumpers that are 4x4 ?

You have me with the fact that we're talking mountains.

HOWEVER...

I have knowledge of 6 4x4 Pumper companies and 3, possibly 4, 4x4 ambulances, operated by the Roxbury VFD/EMS, the Rockaway Point VFD/EMS, and the Point Breeze VFD. All are within 5 miles of me, and all are within the confines of the greater city of New York.

Firstly jumping out of a perfectly good aircraft is fraught with issues ... and entanglement in a tree ... a bit of darwinian applied there.

Or Call STARS ...LOL ..... btw no way vertical lifts should be attempted without zero obstruction or your asking for multiple deaths, well documented just no way any attempt with a canopy entangled, unless a jungle penetrator is used and patient awake.

No limbs means proper spiked boots or the ability to shoot a light tag line over a solid limb and pull up a proper rescue line ... then using ascenders Yumars (or can be improvised from Oval carabiners and modified prussik knots with foot slings.

One must be trained for raises and lowering ... before ever attempting remember scene safety to yourself FIRST then proper gear ie (full body harness, lid, slings, prusiks, and or pulleys with locking device (I use mini traxon) for short hauls/ lowers.

The local Electrical Power Line guys are your best bet or a local Arbourist, or a high risk qualified Logger, local SAR groups too, dont dare believe if you have not trained that one can pull this off with just "get a rope and climb" have been at a few of those "rescuers" needing rescue, AND there is NO RUSH ... the guys either ALIVE or DEAD just no point in killing yourself.

No Heroes allowed.

Climb the tree, well above the patient, find good anchor points (then double anchors) secure patient, knowledge of cut away on chute harness kinda important, secure the patient and not on YOUR safety anchor ... cut away ... theres going to be a good drop no matter what you do with dynamic ropes heck even static lines ... lower and treat for suspension trauma.

A big topic in itself from construction workers being "hung up" for any length of time.

Now back to regular scheduled "swinging" programing.

cheers

I like yours so far the best I'll post mine at the end of monday thank you

Earlier, I said

All are within 5 miles of me, and all are within the confines of the greater city of New York.

I neglected to mention that they are all operating in a beachfront area.

Well if the patient is still in the tree ... might reconsider Richards 2 1/2 line Cat removal trick, just don't tell the Society for the Protection of Parachutists and don't try the catching part !

Richard ... most of the 4x4 pumper trucks we have are out fighting an "interface Fire" in Kelowna British Columbia right now ... nasty business in 35 C temps.

cheers

piece of cake. you climb up tree- you need a rope 2 ropes actually. get to pt make a ranger seat

for pt and attach, next get a strong branch above pt, put rope around it attach carabiner. tread rope

through carabiner attach to pt ranger seat. lower to ground. if c-spine use stokes basket. did this

when pilots that punched out landed in trees.

Why not use the rated harness that the patient is already in? ;) Stokes or Junken work great if c-spine concerns are present of course.

Must be a British Columbia terminology. What is a/an "interface Fire"?

I'm guessing it is combined forest fire/built up residential area fire. Is it?

You guessed it ... we have a bit of a problem in BC right now ... put a crew of hose monkeys and come on up ... the news media has down played it ... but if no rain comes and soon, it hasn't for a month BC Forestry is in deep shit with Pine Beetle killing off the forest 4 years ago I am saying 'I told you so'

Runaway blazes drive thousands from homes

VANCOUVER–As hundreds of firefighters from across the country join the battle against raging forest fires in British Columbia, officials in the province say they may have to call in reinforcements from other nations, including the United States and Australia.

"There are agreements in place. We provide assistance where we can and are grateful to receive it when we need it," Radha Fisher, an information officer with the B.C. Forest Service, said yesterday.

Fire personnel from Ontario, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba have already arrived in B.C. as the province suffers through a fire season that's already seen more than 2,200 blazes.

B.C. forest fire specialists were sent to Australia earlier this year and in 2007 to help respond to wildfires. Fisher said that a formal decision on calling in reinforcements has not yet been made. More than 5,000 British Columbians are out of their homes because of raging wildfires fuelled by record-high temperatures. More than 2,000 residents from Lillooet were evacuated on Sunday night after a fire that had sat a kilometre from the town for days suddenly took a turn for the worse. That blaze, on Mount McLean, is estimated at more than 3,300 hectares.

"We have the heavy helicopters working continuously, dropping retardant on the fire, trying to hold it where it is," said Garry Horley, with the B.C. Forest Service.

He called the situation in Lillooet unprecedented. "Conditions are just so dry. ... I think they've had about one millimetre of rain (in Lillooet) in the past month."

Just a few kilometres away, about 550 people were evacuated from Seton Portage after a fire kicked up Sunday and spread quickly. Meanwhile, the Terrace Mountain fire, north of Kelowna and near Fintry, has grown to more than 7,500 hectares. And in Whistler, a fire on Blackcomb Mountain that was believed to be contained appears to have again flared up.

BTW is the Parachutist still in the tree ?

Unknown if the 'chutist is still up there.

As for fighting wildfires, Timmy has had some recent experience with that in Oz, perhaps he can give the BC fire crew commanders some contact names and numbers to get his teams over to you.
