I won't argue that the Americans did win this one... but I just had never considered it a "butt whoopin" since they incurred higher casualties, and the peace treaty left all prewar boundaries in place. The lines in the American national anthem "our flag was still there" refer to the writer wondering if they had won the battle, or if the British flag was flying.

I gotta admit - they did a heck of a good job on the facelift on the White House...

you are correct. I guess maybe not a butt whoopin but history really doesn't care who won the majority of the battles, history only cares about who won the overall war.

It was definately not a war to be proud of on our side. But then again, when is war something to be proud of unless you are playing the game Risk or the nation simulation game called Cybernations. War is good there. But not in real life
