He was my favorite comedian from my generation.

SANTA MONICA, Calif. - A publicist for George Carlin says the legendary comedian has died of heart failure at a hospital in Santa Monica, Calif.

Jeff Abraham says Carlin went into St. John's Health Center on Sunday afternoon, complaining of chest pain. Carlin died at 5:55 p.m. PDT. He was 71.

Carlin, who had a history of heart trouble, performed as recently as last weekend at the Orleans Casino and Hotel in Las Vegas. It was announced Tuesday that Carlin was being awarded the 11th annual Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.

The dean of counterculture comedians, Carlin constantly pushed the envelop with his jokes, particularly with a routine called "The Seven Words You Can Never Say On TV."

One of the great icons for 'telling it like it really is'....I wonder if more people listened to him that to Paul Harvey for 'the rest of the story'...

I grew up listening to him, and it's funny to think that what he was saying 30 years ago still holds true today

George Carlin's 'influence' will be greatly missed!

Quite possibly one of the funniest comedians of all time.

I listened to him as a younger man and as LS stated, much of what he had to say still holds water today.

An icon who will be sorely missed.

I started tearing up when I first heard about it early yesterday morning. Couldn't believe it. A true man of true wise words. We were able to listen to him in English class every now and then.

Rest in Peace, my friend.

More than a comedian, more like a modern day philosopher. He used words like a surgeon uses a scapel. I saw an interview between him and Bill O'Reily on Fox about him using the F-bomb. He was unwavering about his use of the word. It is an excellent interview if you are a Carlin fan or fan of free speech and thought.
