About IMERT

I was searching the different forums and I came across one about IMERT. I'm a member of IMERT. IMERT is ready for any natural or man maid disaster in the state of Illinois. We have gone to other states if we were called. A comment was made about the boot camp. Boot camp we go over all the rules/by-laws and review the equipment.

Nice program... but lacking a real structure. Any uneducated person like myself, (No BS degree like the folks who organized this program) can see that Chicagoland is well protected, given that about 75% of the training is in the upperstate region. My map has a whole other bunch of land south so you would think that a more central location in the state would be a little more appropriate for an office instead of the farthest reaches north.

Yes I agree the training could be closer to Southern Illinois closer than Nashville Illinois It is a long haul for me. I live so far south I can throw a rock in the river lol. But it is very organized there is a chain of command. There is four regions in Illinois region 1 Chicago as far as I am concerned Chicago could be excloued from Illinois and Springfield as long we have that Governor we have. Region2 Northern Illinois, Region 3 Central Illinois,Region 4 Southern Illinois

IMERT seems to be primarily Illinois. Aside from the CERTs, does it have any similar type units in any other states, or Canadian provinces?

Remember that I have friends on NYC Task Force One of the Urban Search And Rescue team. From what I just read on IMERTs site, it sounds like they might be somewhat similar to them, too.

Yes IMERT is in Illinois but IMERT has responded to other states for disasters. IMERT is medical team of doctors, nurses, paramedic's, and emt's. IMERT also has none medical members for different command type duties. For example if diaster struck and a medical team was needed and IMERT was called they would have members set up hospital type base to treat patient before transport to a hospital by land or air. The structure of IMERT is like the NRP, and NIMS are set up, Do not respond till called for. If a diaster is overwhelming for local responders then IMERT is called if to large for local and IMERT then federal help is called for. At first it was just for state of Illinois but after hurricane Katrina IMERT respondes to diasters in other states. Hope this helped if not just send a reply. Medic36411 just a old paramedic.

IMERT is not ready for anything any more. They are down to around 500 members. And the current command staff is not very well trained. ICEP is just taking the taxpayers money for bigger offices and more money in their pockets

While you're providing info about IMERT... How about explain what "IMERT" stands for? Clearly Illinois.... But what does MERT stand for?

Did you search IMERT here? Seems a year or so ago somebody really did a disservice to IMERT or one similar.
