Ambulance collides with fire truck in Butler County PA

Recommended Posts

Thursday evening accident involving ambulance with a patient on board and fire truck full story here.

According to what I am told from sources close to those involved the driver was blinded by the sun and did not see the fire truck stopped immediately and attempted to avoid the truck and stop.

Assisting Pennsylvania State Police were East Butler VFD, Oneida Valley VFD Fire Police, Butler Ambulance, East Butler Ambulance, and Chicora VFD Fire Police.

Bummer, hope everyone's alright.

Whoever was driving better be a damn good EMT/Paramedic or they can say goodbye to that job...

A long time ago a kid I knew crashed an ambulance into a parked car while he was off duty, he's not allowed to work as an EMT in the county because of it.

Why does the side door appear to be ripped off (I'll assumed jaws of life style), yet it is obvious that the rear door (at least one) is easily opened. The accident does appear to be fairly minor and restricted to the cab of the ambulance.

The two emergency departments involved in the accident were the Petrolia Volunteer Fire & Relief Association and the Lick Hill Volunteer Fire Company.

LOL? WTF does that mean? I'm going to ask the city to rename us a "relief association".

What a joke...

[devil's advocate with a pinch of sarcasm]

Well, there was a positive mechanism so everyone gets full c-spine precautions. Gurney+attendant=not that much space to move around. By opening up the door by any means necessary that allows a provider access to the front of the patient care compartment, which includes, at the very least, the head of the patient. This allows a provider to give manual in-line stabilization pending a backboard, head bed, and c-collar.

Of course there doesn't appear to be any damage to either side of that door, so it could simply be that no one decided to try the door handle. Ockham's razor was seen crying in the back seat of the hit fire truck after the accident.
