  1. you know it never fails, every time someone posts a little joke on here there is at least one Person who has to criticize it. I found it hilarious! Who cares how the public perceives EMS. Besides, do you have proof that the public perceives EMS in the matter of it being one big joke? As long as you do your job and you do it right that is all that matters. You cant control all the other idiots out there that don't take their job seriously and who give it a bad image, just as long as you dont. It doesn't matter what career you get into, there is always going to be one person who is going to be the 'screw up' of the group and make things look bad, but that doesn't mean that the public perceives that profession as just one big joke. IF your that self conscious that a little spoof video like that is going to make the profession look bad then you have issues. Live a little, laugh a little & Lighten up!

Ehler's-Danlos Syndrome refers to a collective group of heritable connective tissue disorders. It may include "joint hypermobility, skin extensibility and tissue fragility." It has to do with a malfunction in the expression of the collagen protein. There are 6 different categories, each of which is directly heritable. A person with one type of EDS will not have a child with a different type of EDS according to--

Now... what is Osgood Schlatter's disease?

    Wendy

    CO EMT-B

    MI EMT-B

This is an easy one because my brother has it, Osgood-Schlatter disease is a disorder of the lower front of the knee where the large tendon under the kneecap (patellar tendon) attaches to the bone of the leg below. The condition is characterized by localized pain and tenderness in this area. Osgood-Schlatter disease is predominantly seen in young adolescent boys. It is said that stress on the bone from the tendon tugging it during activities leads to the disease.

    now what is Loeys-Dietz Syndrome?

  4. As far as infidelity goes, I've heard there is a high rate of it in EMS as well. I did some talking with a medic friend of mine who has also heard this and its just so easy to hide. If your in EMS your rarely home and its so easy to tell your spouse your going out on a call, yeah BOOTY CALL! Just easy to hide is what it boils down to. Unless your spouse is in EMS as well haha! BUSTED

  5. Having been out of adult medicine for a good while before this current assignment, I had not used Vistaril in years. But back in my adult ER days, there were posters on the wall of every ER warning that Vistaril should ONLY be given by gluteal IM, utilising the Z-Track injection technique, which was illustrated on the poster. Although Vistaril was not covered in my paramedic school, it was one of the very first IM injections I ever gave during my ER rotations, and the nurse preceptor there made that information absolutely clear to me. And it was darn sure covered at length in nursing school. I am frankly shocked that anybody in a position to give this medication would not be familiar with this information.

I take it back. I'm not shocked at all. In fact, this is exactly the sort of thing I have come to expect from EMS today. It is again part of the whole skills-centric culture in EMS where somebody who has been given thirty minutes of training on IM injections now feels qualified to administer any med in the cabinet. This is just more evidence that, without true education, training is meaningless. Which is why EMS has zero respect in the medical world.

[NOTE: The above rant was not in any way aimed at the original poster. I commend him for asking the question.]

You have point though! I just asked because im not in EMS and was just curious after doing some research and not finding anything on it. Figured this was the place to ask :) MISS YA DUST!!

  6. I'm just wondering, what would happen if you gave vistral through IV without diluting it first? i hope nobody chews me out for this lol because i looked it up and never found anything about what would happen if it was given in anyway except IM. juuuuust wondering :D thanks people
