LoL. Awesome....a jet engine in an ambulance....I want. I could definately deal without the excessive bouncing from the hydrolics, but those flames could definately come in handy with these idiot Jersey drivers!!!

In addition to what Timmy originally said, and going along with this idea, is kinda a before & after shot. Show a kid who just started the stuff in HS, and kinda do a broken timeline progression thing showing the kid going from a fairly good student, to a kid on the street all f'd up. I work at an ER in Newark, NJ. For anyone who doesn't know the area....it's a really bad urban ghetto. We see this all the time. These young peoples (20-29) come in there all messed up from horrible binges. We had one girl come in with a really nasty head laceration that took numerous stitches to heal because she fell down a flight of stairs after a 3 day binge of heroine and cocaine. We tried to give her morphine to lessen the pain while we were cleansing and stitching the wound but it wouldn't work cuz she used up all her receptors on the drugs. Now, turn back the timeline maybe 10-15 yrs, and I'm sure they were a lot better off than they are now! Just an idea for ya.

I wish the US would use more 'graphic' commercials like this!!! It would show all these stupid HS kids how those "cool" things they do in their cars (drag race, drive like they're insane, etc.....) are really risky and can cost them thier lives. Especially some of these guys on their Kawasaki, Honda, etc.... motorcycles that go 90+MPH on the highways weaving in & outta traffic. Maybe....just maybe....it would open thier eyes just a lil to be a bit safer!

If I'm correct, the "vigorous airway management" was the guy's screaming at the lady, so the topic name definately does fit. But, wow....that's friggen insane. Now, the picture was fuzzy, but am I right that his head did spider and possibly go through the windshield????

Emo = short for emotional. It was originally a genre of rock music in which the singers would whine about their ex's and how their parents hate them & stuff. Then, all the kids picked up on it and now emo can also be a label for kids that listen to that kinda music and, many times, wear all black. The guys have a tendency to be very skinny and wear tight girly pants. Examples of 'emo' music: Dashboard Confessional, many songs by Simple Plan.

Wow.....that wasn't even depressing cuz of wat she was saying....that was just depressing because she actually thought someone would watch that and not laugh at her. The girl desperately needs some Zoloft and a good psychiatrist. And, geez....why do all the supposed 'emos' have to dress goth??? They aren't goth! Argh!

Yea. I understand wat u mean. My company has the scanner cuz we are doin' some town EMS. I've found that JEMS4 is a good station if you wanna get the local PD. I found that out when we got bored & decided to listen to how retarted the Teaneck PD can be. :twisted:

Oh, but how much do we wish we could sometimes!!! BTW, for peoples in Jersey, if you really wanna get back at someone that is acting like a jerk on the road, in my post b4 I mentioned the aggressive driver hotline. If you call it, they will either put you through to the nearest state police station (if you're on a highway) or to the local PD. I've called it numerous times when someone was speedin' through traffic cuttin' everyone off or when someone was tailgating me like crazy. It's fun to watch the person get pulled over. The number is #77. I'm sure in other states they may have something similar. Have fun!

Don't worry. I'm not angry at all. By posting on here I know I'm up for criticism as much as anything else. Just wanna rebut a few things! As for #4, I get those lil intuition feelings sometimes when I know somethings gonna happen. That's wat I meant by that. I was actually driving extra careful cuz I didn't want it to happen! In my company, standing policy is if you get in an accident, your driving priviledges get revoked 'til the police report is picked up and the supervisor reviews it. Now, I don't like how my partner drives, so I did not want that to happen!! For #5, I actually had a good stopping distance. I still had a good amount of room in front of me after I braked. The reason I called it sudden was cuz it was very surprising one. The person in front of me was tailgating the person in front of him (surprise surprise? :roll:) and I had to suddenly stop. I always try to drive as safe as I can. It just sucks because people in this state are absolutely oblivious to everything around them. I swear, most of them find their driver's licenses in the bottom of a cereal box. ](*,) And, akflightmedic, I totally understand why you would throw a devil's advocate to this posting. As I said before, I knew I would be up for criticism putting this up. Thanx for the pointers. :lol:/

Oh gosh........yes it does, but this was actually Fairview Ave in Fairview. If u know the road, u know how awful it is. No shoulder, 2 lanes, huge hill, winding, busy as ANYTHING!! When we stopped after the accident, you should've seen the backup caused (especially cuz of rubberneckers). However....Bloomfield Ave is where I got in my 1st accident with my personal vehicle. Bloomfield Ave in Bloomfield, rite by the intersection with State St. Guy opened his door as we were coming from the light that just turned green. No time to stop, cars next to me, so I couldn't get outta the way. He took off my side view mirror, I think he had a dent in his company vehicle? ::shakes head::

I was thinking about that!!! LoL. 3 things made me not do it. One, it was daytime. Two, if she's that close to my ambulance, can she even see the rear floods???? Three, if shes such an idiot to be that close to my ambulance, wtf would she do if she got a lil spooked by the lights??

In the town I used to volly for, we regularly got called to a local strip club for seizures. One of the dancers and one of the bouncers had some sorta seizure disorder. Other random people used to have seizures there too. It was a given we would go there at least 2-3 times a week. We also got called once to one of the many sleezy motels for a DOA. They had to go searching through the motel for her ID and such because everything was separately wrapped in ziplock baggies. Very very odd.....and smelly!

Last weekend I was drivin' the ambulance back to a pt.'s residence on a normal transport run. We were already havin' a bad day with dummy drivers on the road & I had a feelin' one of them was gonna hit us eventually. Well, I'm drivin' up this congested 2 lane road & I look in my mirrors & see this chick tailing us with only about six inches of distance. I tap my brakes to give a lil hint. Not taken. I was bout to hand my partner my cell to call the aggressive driver hotline (oh wat a beautiful thing it is!!) and a guy stops short in front of me. I stop, and of course the dummy in back of me slams into me. Thankfully, I was driving the box, not the 'van'bulance that day. So I get out, already in the process of calling 911. She's out already picking up her license plate (lol) and I realize my ambulance has no damage. Her bumper will prolly need to be replaced. I ask her if she's ok and she asks me why I'm on my cell. I tell her I'm calling 911, she gives me a hissy look, and goes on her phone. I'm waiting in my ambulance, and her husband actually comes up to my ambulance and asks me if we could resolve this without making a report. :shock: Later on, cops arrive & the couple started trying to tell the police it was my fault. The cop tells them why they are at fault & the couple now gets hissy with him. The policeman actually had to ask the husband to leave (he had driven there in his own car after the wife called.) The lady even got nasty with me when I simply asked for insurance info stating "Why??? Your ambulance has no damage. My car is the only one that has damage!" We're now wondering if she's gonna try something because at the end, she told the policeman to hurry up because she was 'feeling sick'. :roll: Anyone else have ridiculous stories like this????

In the town I used 2 volly for, this certain patient used 2 call our ambulance so much, they now send PD out before sending out the ambulance to see if she really needs the ambulance or not. She then started using the private company I worked for, and they ended up refusing to take her as well cuz she abused the ambulance so much!! Here's one example of a call the volly squad took from her. Dispatched out as a sick call. O/A, she's standing outside saying "I broke my first two cervical spine and I'm having a seizure. I need to go to the local trauma center!!" To show that she was having a seizure, she twitched her head a lil & was twitching her one arm like how u would mock a handicapped person (don't mean to be un-pc). Needless to say, she did not go to the local trauma center.......she went to the local hospital. Unfortunately for them. I've also walked into the ER & seen her there screaming at the nurses that she wants certain prescriptions when she doesnt need them...::shakes head:: :roll:

I guess you can say I dealt with my first loss kinda callously, but I did still feel kinda bad. We got called out for 55 y/o female with back pain. She was an alcoholic, and she poo'ed all over our stairchair, so we were holding in our annoyance at first. We get her in the back of the rig & she starts gargling so me, who was only a CPR/1st aid, at the time & the new EMT roll her on her side to throw up & she codes. We get her to the hospital, complete asystole. We were doin' CPR for about 20-25 minutes until the family arrived. I was there when the doctor came over & told the family the deal & the family said to stop resus procedures. It was hard to swallow at the time cuz it's really sad to see the family go through that. However, I just said to myself, "Well, at least the familiy doesn't have to watch their mother/sister kill herself anymore. And, the family no longer has to be hurt by her mother/sister anymore." It's kinda a bad way to look at it, but it's the truth. Its kinda along the same line as rectifying a terminally ill patient dying by saying "At least she/he isn't sufferring anymore." The kind of patient that still bothers me to see are the elder, child, and sexual abuse cases. I once saw an elderly lady that had decubitus ulcers on the back of her head & ears (yes...her ears even had decubiti!), straight down her back to her heels, and she hadn't been washed in at least 2 weeks, probably longer. :shock: ::shakes head:: Wat was worse was that the family came to see her, and didn't even ask why she wasn't washed or anything. They just took it as commonplace. People suck. Bleh. She ended up passing on soon after....think that was probably for the better for her. She didn't have to be neglected anymore.

I'm not sure what kinda company you're starting out with so I'll give you my experience. I'm 5'3 and a medium build. I started out bein' an EMT with a bum shoulder. I had just gotten outta 6 months worth of physical therapy. I told my volly company and my full-time job straight-forward that I wasn't going to be able to lift well, but if they gave me a lil bit of time, I would compensate. My volly company required a new EMT to ride as a third for a month or two anyways, so they just put me on a night with 2 guys. My paid job requires someone to ride as a third for 2 days anyways, then they placed me with another female to do light jobs. My 1st two days with my paid company I asked them to show me all the tricks in the book on different ways to lift people. By the end of the 1st month, I was lifting people up & down stairs. I even lifted a 300 lb guy up stairs. Lifting is probably one of the most difficult things to learn in the job for a newbie. Working out and strengthening your leg muscles will help A LOT though. I was lucky that I was a swimmer, which I totally recommend to help you build up all your body muscles btw. Good luck!!!

In Jersey I've heard the ambulances called rig, bus, 'van'bulance & truck. Truck only if it's the box style. Vanbulance, for the ambulettes that mainly transport services use. And, I hear bus a lot cuz I live right next to NYC, so I get former NYC EMT's around here a lot.

Wow. I must say...this is definately an opposite position from what I'm used to seeing. Almost everyone I work with goes from being an EMT to a RN. I'm currently in nursing school myself. I have thought of leaving nursing school and sticking with the EMT thing but then I get thinking about everything and I realize, there is just so much more flexibility in becoming an RN. For one, the pay is much better as an RN, and so are the benefits. Secondly, if you decide to have a family, a nursing job is much more stable. Plus, if you think of the future, unless you want to go into administration or training or such, it's very difficult to stay in the field on a bus when you're older. BTW, I'm giving an EMT-B in Jersey view here. Your state might be different. Also, put into play that you already put so many years of schooling past you and that's a lot of tuition money, strife, hard work, etc..... I say continue with it. If you drop outta nursing school for a couple years, there's a good chance other colleges may not accept your credits & you'll have to re-take them & you'll regret it. Hey hey there! Leave Canada alone now. I live in the US, yes, and I do enjoy it here. However, I have family up in Canada and I cannot say that it is absolutely wonderful up there. They're actually a pretty damn good country. The reason we don't pay attention to them much is because they keep to themselves and don't like to get involved with other country's business. They are very anti-war and enjoy being a peaceful country. One big contribution they have made recently, though, is their fight against AIDS, which the US has been lacking in.
