  1. Oh sure…. I wanted to watch the video, and I get “This video has been removed as a violation of YouTube’s policy on nudity or sexual content.” I think Dwayne should have to provide his own video, acting out what happened on the YouTube one...... just a thought...
  2. Ahh thanks..... that makes sense... I thought maybe Admin had removed it from the first post, but it had been quoted before it was removed, so it showed upin the second. My mistake.
  3. OK, I had backed away from this thread, because I didn’t like the direction this thread was going… but when I see this post, I will comment once more… Although I don’t agree with Squint’s last comment, I don’t think you can say that JP has been entirely respectful. I took offense to JP’s comment “Canada can go pound sand.” I didn’t find that to be a respectful argument. As for your comment “This is the protest you were upset about? A small group of people making fools of themselves…” It was a group of 40 people, which really isn’t that small. I suspect you would treat this differently had it been at a function you were attending, and you wouldn’t be so willing to dismiss it as not a big deal. How would you have felt if this had happened at your Veteran’s Day function where you were honouring the memories of your family members? Would you have been so open-minded? I'm not saying would you have wanted them arrested, or is it illegal, but would you have been offended enough to say or do something about it? I don't need an answer to drag this thread out any longer, but I would like people to be honest with themselves in what they would do if they were in that situation. My intent in posting this thread was because I thought the actions of these few were offensive, and I wanted to post it so others could see the news article. I am disappointed that some have chosen to turn it into a contest where I should be getting a ruler out…. This thread wasn’t about me, or JP, or Lone, or Happi, or Squint, or you…. It was about the disgracing of the memories of those who died for their country. Not sure how you reposting Squint's comment is relevant, JP. Admin removed it for a reason, and Mike's comments served the purpose of showing he said something unacceptable. If you were ignoring the reply, you shouldn't have reposted it. That shows me that you want the attention of "Look, Squint is being an a** to me." You are right, he was.... what positive thing could come of you reposting it?
  4. And you know the expression about winning an argument over the internet.....
  5. You made the argument about safety in your comments, so I was applying your argument to the original incident in the original post. I think we will have to agree to disagree on this one. Again, I think we will have to agree to disagree. My exact words were: “Again, it goes back to intent – if your intent is to offend, and create chaos, then, no, you shouldn’t be allowed to stand on a street corner with your wood chipper. Feel free to do that in your own yard.” I never said you couldn’t do that on your own property, which makes your above argument moot…
  6. I see where what I wrote and what I intended to write were not the same thing. JP has spoke a lot about freedom of speech, and the problem with freedom of speech is the actions that come with it. Speech in and of itself isn't the problem. I don't have a problem with people disagreeing with me, or my beliefs. I have a problem with them disrupting things that are important to me, starting fires, burning things that are important to me at an event that is important to me. None of those are speech - those are actions. And you are right - if someone destroys something important to me and I, in turn, destroy something important to him then I am no better a person than he is. And, I agree, that is childish. However, this is what happens in some cultures - you injure me or my family, I kill someone in your family... the eye for an eye mentality is alive and well. I don't believe in that mentality, even though others may, but I also don't believe that those that publicly interfere with ceremonies and act deliberately to offend should be allowed to continue those actions under "freedom of speech."
  7. So, given that they burned something while in a public place, within a close distance of thousands of people, you are saying that fire is a danger to others, and they shouldn’t have done that. Why couldn’t you just say that? And, what is the difference between running on stage, and shouting and disrupting a moment of silence? I disagree with your splitting hairs here. The intent is the same, the effect is the same, and the result is the same. As someone else said, you are being deliberately obtuse. Knowing that you believe pencils are sacred, the question is should I be allowed to publicly, at your event, be allowed to destroy them, knowing that my actions will be offensive to you and others, and potentially endanger you and others? Again, intent is the issue. Again, it goes back to intent – if your intent is to offend, and create chaos, then, no, you shouldn’t be allowed to stand on a street corner with your wood chipper. Feel free to do that in your own yard. Freedom of speech isn’t an absolute. By granting freedoms in absolution, we risk, and potentially create the completely lawless society we try hard not to have. I think you either missed my point earlier, or are deliberately trying to avoid it when I asked “And if it deteriorates to that, where you destroyed something important to me, so I will destroy something important to you, where does it end?” If you throw a stone, then I throw a stone, then you throw a bigger stone, then I throw a grenade, then you throw a bigger grenade, where does it end? I can argue it is my right, that I have the freedom to do it, and so do you, but what does that gain us? Someone has to have the good sense to say enough is enough, and that your rights end where someone else’s start.
  8. JP, you ask a lot of thought-provoking questions, which have promoted a lot of discussion... But let's get back to the original article. A group of people in London disrupted a ceremony that is important and emotional to many, and completely disregarded the opinions and feelings of those who were attending that ceremony. Did they have the right to do that? If they did, does that give others the right to disrupt and destroy symbols of their beliefs? And if it deteriorates to that, where you destroyed something important to me, so I will destroy something important to you, where does it end? If those that disrupted the Remembrance Day service were citizens of England, does that make it any more right? Does that make it any more acceptable? JP, I would like to hear your opinions on that, and await your reply.
  9. One of my frustrations as an EMT working a rural BLS service is the lack of pain medication I can provide. I feel that a medic can provide far superior care in a lot of situations that I find myself in (hence one of the reasons I am currently in paramedic school). Do I think that basics should be able to provide more meds? No. Anyone working in the medical field should have a thorough education to know the anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology involved, and risks and benefits of the medication before giving it. For example, not that long ago, I had a call for a 24yo male who had a leg caught in a piece of machinery.. he was in excruciating pain, and the only pain med I am allowed to give is Entonox (nitrous oxide) which really wasn’t enough in this situation. After a 15 minute extrication, and 25 minutes to hospital, this poor guy had been in pain for a long time. Since pain can increase shock, by not trying to control this guy’s pain, I am really not helping him as well as I could, since I cannot control his shock well either. ALS was over an hour away, so my only hope for pain control was to get him to the hospital. Did I do as much as I could for that patient? Absolutely, as I did all I could within my scope of practice. Was it enough? Absolutely not. I am not advocating handing out pain meds like a Pez dispenser. I am advocating providing pain medication as part of a thorough treatment, after a thorough assessment and history is obtained. Pain control is as much a part of patient care as holding a hand, or consoling a patient, or providing airway management or fluid resuscitation. It is part of what we should be doing. Dwayne said it so well when he said “Every patient has a right to have an ambulance come to them. Every patient has a right to a professional, thorough assessment, and every patient has a right to complete and competent treatment based on that assessment up to and including emotional support and pain management.”
  10. It goes back to where my rights end and another's start... I have lots of rights, but when my rights trample on someone else's, my rights should end. In this situation, Muslim religion and customs are not a part of historical England, but losing men and women in WWI, WWI, and other wars has been a large part of England's history. For Muslims not to respect that, and to interfere with that, is just as despicable as me interfering with a First Nations ceremony here. There should also be consequences to actions. The Muslim community should have the right of free speech, but that right ends when it interferes with a Remembrance Day ceremony. There are other avenues for protest. This was not a protest to encourage people seeing another point of view - this was a protest solely to be disruptive. Regardless of if it was Muslims, KKK, or the National Association of Bicycle Clowns disrupting this ceremony, it is offensive, and at minimum they should be charged with disrupting the peace. I am willing to site down and listen to someone's point of view if they are willing to present it with the purpose of discussion and dialogue; however, just as they have the right to present their opinion how they want, I have the right to ignore their views and put up barriers to their views if they are presenting it with the intent of being aggressive and disruptive.
  11. JPINFV, very good point, and you are right - I did make that incorrect assumption. At what point does one's right to protest outweigh someone else's right to ceremony? I do believe there is a time and a place for protest, but I don't think this was the time or the place. The incident was in London, England, not in Canada. I should have posted the entire article as well, so here it is (and just so the lawyers who watch for people who don't cite their sources, again, it is from the Toronto Sun http://www.torontosun.com/news/world/2010/11/11/16088711.html A large model of a poppy was burned in protest of the war in Afghanistan and several demonstrators chanted during two minutes of silence in London during Thursday morning Armistice Day ceremonies. A group that calls itself Muslims Against Crusades chanted, "British soldiers burn in hell," and held signs saying, "Islam will dominate" and, "Our dead are in paradise, your dead are in hell." The Remembrance Day protest, near Hyde Park, involved 50 members of the group, the Daily Mail newspaper reported. Another 50 counter-demonstrators were also there. The two groups were separated by police. "We are demonstrating because this day is a day of remembrance to remember every single fallen soldier, including those killed in Afghanistan and Iraq. We find it disgusting that innocent people, innocent children, have been killed in an illegal and unjust war and we are demonstrating against that," Asad Ullah of Muslims Against Crusades said, several media outlets reported. "We want the government to pull the troops out from these countries and to stop interfering in our affairs." On its website, which features photos of children injured or dead, the group called the protest "an emergency demonstration" to "break the silence." In a video message, group member Abu Ubaidah said British soldiers, along with U.S. troops, are involved in assaulting, raping and murdering Muslims. "The general British public, they show their support of the murdering of Muslims, by wearing the poppy," he said. "The two minute silence for the soldiers is a condemnable event and the wearing of the poppy is symbolic of the war against Islam and Muslims, which needs to be condemned. And we will not be silent." Police told the Daily Mail three men were arrested - two for public order offences and one for assaulting an officer.
  12. Wow… what a complete lack of respect. Article in today's Toronto Sun: http://www.torontosun.com/news/world/2010/11/11/16088711.html Remembrance Day is observed on November 11 to recall the official end of World War I on that date in 1918, as the major hostilities of World War I were formally ended "at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month" of 1918 with the German signing of the Armistice. It is meant to remember soldiers of all wars, and the sacrifices they made. Those that do not like the ceremony should have the respect to not attend, and perhaps they should return to their own countries on that day, to be reminded how lucky they are to be able to be in that country that celebrates Remembrance Day. I know I am preaching to the choir on this one, but this makes me so angry….
  13. Thank you for that link, Ruff - that is an excellent resource! I have saved it as well... I would give you a point if I could... And Mobey, I will never be able to carry on a medical convo with squint... he is wayyy too smart for me. I do wish I could link my brain to his, like downloading information from a laptop to a USB, and get some of that medical info... although I am positive I would have to run a virus scan after to ensure I didn't get any bad porn links or anything...
  14. Good thread, Bieber, and you will get a lot of opinions on this one, I think… I noted one thing that I wanted to comment on, before I get to my reply to your original post. In our service, a patient isn’t coded yellow unless they are decreased level of consciousness and/or are deteriorating regardless of our interventions. I can see where you could make the majority of your patients yellow under your criteria system. I would like to encourage you to trust your instincts. Don’t make a patient a code yellow just because you can.. trust your knowledge and that of your partner. I have worked on a BLS service for years, and I should explain that our EMT’s are a little different than yours. What you call EMT-B’s, we call EMR’s (Emergency Medical Responders) . Our EMT’s are more like your EMT-I’s, and can start IV’s, give come meds, and cardiac monitor patients. I also work on an ALS service, where I am paired with a medic (I am currently in medic school). Although paired with a medic, we alternate who attends on calls, so that I gain experience, and the medic can step in if needed. Since a lot of calls are BLS anyways, this gives the EMT experience, and they can maintain their skills, and learn from the ALS partner. We do have some dual medic cars. These are cars where one is an experienced medic and the other is a relatively new medic. This allows the new medic to work with someone more seasoned, until they feel comfortable being the senior person on a car with an EMT, rather than throwing them into a senior role as soon as they have completed their medic training. This seems to work well, as the new medics gain experience and the confidence before moving to a car with an EMT. As the ALS service is a city service, in the event of a delta level call, we do have a shift supervisor medic who responds to those calls as well, so that you have 2 medics on the most serious calls. The BLS service I work for is rural, and the closest ALS service is an hour away by ground, or 30 minutes by air, so we have to be able to handle the situation on our own for quite a while before getting ALS assistance. Scary? Sometimes, but great experience, and it certainly weeds out those who don’t have confidence in their abilities. Bieber, you are a joy to have in these forums – your posts and questions are well thought out, and your interest in learning more is a good push for the rest of us. Thank you for joining this site!
  15. Ahem, I think pictures are a necessity here......
  16. Happi, you knew I had to add to this (and I can't wait to hear what Dwayne will say!) "1. Aspire to be Ken - He has Barbie and is able to keep her in the lifestyle that she deserves." - but Ken can't give Barbie what she really wants..... a good lay.... "6. When life gets you down - Get your wife to get it back up." - this does not apply to Ken.... for the reasons we all know... "7. Let your greatest fear be PMS - Enough said" - this is the best advice EVER! - more wars could be solved by sending in a group of women with PMS to beat the crap out of the evil enemy than by using any WMD. - remember that old joke "my boyfriend laughed when I told him I had PMS.... so I stabbed him.." "12. Remember wherever there is a good looking, sweet, single or married woman...she is Canadian" - absolutely!
  17. I wish I had the words that could take away loss and pain, but I know I have none. Please know that you and your family, and all who knew your nephew are in my thoughts and prayers today, and through the next difficult days.
  18. I think I am about to get banned....

  19. And it's about damned time. I am sick to death of you derailing threads with your race comments, and your own agenda, and I don't really care who is right and who is wrong, YOU derail many threads. YOU make arguments without backing them up with statistics or references (oh, I correct myself - you made 1 reference that you backed up with a link). YOU ignore the original posts so that you can get on your soapbox about race issues. Every one of your arguments in this thread has been race related, and have no bearing on the original article posted. Even when you were asked to keep your posts related to the original thread, you refused. YOU are every bit as racist as you accuse others of being, by the way you treat others here on these boards. YOU throw the first stone every time, and accuse others of racist behaviors without proof. YOU accuse people in these forums of being racist, but whenever someone presents an alternative view, you scream even harder that others are racist. You demand respect when you do not give the same, and wonder why you are not respected. It has nothing to do with race, and everything to do with your own actions. You want to start a thread on race, do it, but quit derailing other threads for your own agenda.
  20. HAHAHAHAHA Dwayne, that is hysterical! Dang – I was so concerned that Ken was without a penis that I never thought how disturbing it is that Barbie doesn’t have a vagina…. There are some things though… Who is Barbie’s aesthetician? Damn, I can’t get a wax job that good…. You are right – I would drink more tequila if I didn’t have a vagina… I only drink enough that I have no need for big girl panties… oh never mind…. I think I am still more disturbed about Ken… Was he working on gender reassignment, and ran out of money because he was always buying Barbie a new car? Or maybe because they always had to move, because she always had a new job? (waitress, vet, firefighter, nurse, police officer, surfer girl…) Why did he always wear a sweater? You can’t trust a guy in a sweater in summertime… there is something wrong about that. Now my brain hurts, and I am going to go find some tequila, talk to my girlfriend, and put my big girl panties back on….
  21. I too looked at ERDoc’s links… - video 1 – color in car cam, definitely not from 50 years ago - video 2 – dated August 18, 2010 - video 3 – august 1, 2006 - video 4 – august 19, 2005 - video 5 – july 21, 2008 - video 6 – December 21, 2006 - video 7 – September 3, 2009 Funny, I see videos from the last 5 years, not the last 50, so your point is completely irrelevant. I think I am going to start calling you Col. Flagg, like the guy on M*A*S*H, who was convinced that everyone and everything was subversive and out to get him. I am tired of your “code for..” comments that you use when you have no actual facts. Again, I would like to remind you, that until confronted, you haven’t responded with a viable argument to posts others have made that actually have facts; you choose to completely ignore the original post, which had NOTHING to do with race; and again, you have not come up with any evidence to support your claims… Once again, sir, you have proven yourself a troll.
  22. We have used the Pacific Emergency Products A300 and A600 bags for years, but now that PEP has gone out of business, we are switching to Ferno bags as the PEP ones wear out. I have always liked the A300 for carrying all the meds we use, and a lot of them can be left in the original boxes (epi, D50, adenosine, sodium bicarb...). I can't remember the model # for the Fernos because I am not usually in a truck with the new kits, but next time I am on duty I will look. As for expired meds, we have a monthly schedule where the crews working on the 25th of each month go through the med list for each ambulance and aircraft, note any meds that are or will be expired by the first of the next month, and then we place one order with the hospital pharmacy. The pharmacy sends them to our main office, and on the first of each month, the day crews exchange and restock the meds. This has worked well for us in making sure we don't have expired meds on car.
  23. Actually, people call you a troll because you continue to derail threads and focus solely on race as an issue, when it is not the issue in the thread. Get over yourself. Wow – first you say that others don’t quote the facts, and then you do exactly what you belittle others for. “...I was unable to find actual response time records but if I had to bet which community had the worst public safety response times,….” You are making this up as you go to support your opinion. And, when I went to the official Jackson, Missippi site (http://www.jacksonms.gov/government/planning/demographics/) it reports the population as 70.6% black and 27.8% white, not the 61.6% black and 29% white that you quoted without a reference source. Agreed – THIS IS THE WHOLE POINT OF THE INITIAL POST, PLEASE KEEP WITH THE PROGRAM… You post opinions, and demand that others PROVE their point, and when they do, and provide links and articles to support it, you ignore them. For example, on page 3 of this thread, ERdoc provided a number of examples of ambulance shootings to refuse your comments. You chose to ignore that. I requested that you refrain from hijacking this thread for your own agenda of arguing race, and you chose to ignore that. You wonder why you are considered a troll. Look at your own actions.
  24. One of the medics at the college I teach at decided that we absolutely HAD to have the Plano kits for classroom use. I argued that for classroom use, they may not hold up to student abuse, to which he gave me the "I am a paragod and you are not" speech. We don't use them at the service I work for (we have always had soft-side kits) and after a year with the Plano boxes, I am so happy I don't use them when I am on car. In a year, the students have broken so many pieces out of them, including broken hinges, slide out trays, and just about anything that is possible to break. On the plus side, it enabled me to use the "I told you so" speech.....
