  1. I was guessing a stent of some kind, maybe for stenosis. Unsure of course without more info.
  2. I will definitely go through the motion of checking a long pulse, breathing, body temp. I will even listen with my scope, check pupils and put on patches. But at that time my attention will go to the family. I can call in help for them. A pale, cold body with rigor is pretty obvious. And I can't provide false hope. In the case of an infant, the parents might need treatment, sadly.
  3. Sounds like an infection and rejection of whatever they put in there. Als needs involved as if he is gray or pale and likely bleeding he probably needs fluids. How are his lung sounds? Has the blood and secretions been going into his lungs? Temp? O2 SATs? Titrate o2 as needed Swelling in his neck? Deviation of the trachea? Who did the surgery? Have medical direction contact surgeon Rest of vitals in bus. Has pt been vomiting or deficating blood? If temp, how long has fever been there? Pt been able to eat? Swallow? Drink? If not how long? Als needs to be involved with the rest
  4. did you read the post? Hours dead, rigor. Not warm, pink and limp.
  5. I agree there is a difference and admitted that. I also even looked it up. I do know you can't practice with NREMT certification alone. We knew that from day one of class. Until today, I didn't know certain states called it different things though. probably.
  6. we got that part. But I was addressing scuba when she was telling him EMTs are not licensed right. In Iowa, the scope of practice does not include BGL, EPI or King airways without further training and your Medical directors approval. I had to go through extra training for , 3 lead, 12 lead, driving, BGL, AND EPI to be Able to do any of that .
  7. OK, spouse on a day long motorcycle trip and I'm bored. Anyway, some states do issue San EMT license. MI. GA, FL and a few others just on a quick search. Others are certifications, but then say license number etc etc. I think its just semantics and not really that important to this thread, but I did find it interesting.
  8. This person is not having delusions, or psychotic issues. Anxiety affects more people than you know. I will bet you have worked with people affected by it and never knew. They don't usually introduce themselves and tell you.
  9. well it almost sounds like the certification allows you to get your certification, or license, depending on what the specific state calls it. Once I was active through the Iowa dept of ems, I was told I was licensed to treat, but my state card says certified. I say certified. Apparently other states choose to say licensed. The link Mike, made it as clear as mud . I knew that my nremt did not allow me to do anything until I was certified through Iowa, but luckily, that took only hours through the magic of computer.
  10. 46 states use the National Registry tests as their standard. To say it is a waste of time is a bit foolish.I did not have another test of any kind besides my NREMT. I took that, got my results and hours after getting my resume?ts I was active on my states website and had a state ID EMT number. I was then able to run EMT. A few weeks later I got my state issued EMT card. You can test at any of those 46 States and expect to get similar questions. The parts that may differ are the skills tests. Iowa is one that requires it for initial certification. I don't know about the cert/licensing title. Not a huge deal to me, but when I got it I was told I was now licensed to practice. Yet my card said certified. It seems its used hand in hand. I say certified, but others say licensed. *shrugs*
  11. Working a code on someone obviously dead gives the family false hope, is unprofessional and is abusive to the body. I am sure it does not help with their grieving.
  12. I don't usually go around admiring tattoos, reading them blah blah when I'm busy. Lol I wouldn't even glance at this during a code.
  13. Lexapro works wonders for some, but the 10 mg doesn't always cut it. I know some on 30. It won't work for everyone as Zoloft or pamalor doesn't work for everyone. It may benefit you to see a good psychiatrist and experiment with other medications. Some people do great on medication alone. Some with therapy alone and some with a combination of both. I think anxiety affects a lot of people and shouldn't get in the way of your dreams, but should be under control for your own sake. You don't want to start obsessing about your work on top of the stresses of ems. Did you do this right? Could you have done this better? I think it could get in the way of your confidence. You have time to get it under control.
  14. Have you tried other meds? Your story sounds very familiar to me however mine is controlled and actually quite a while since its been here. Exercise, talking about it, yes, medication in the past helped. You have time to get it more controlled, but I wouldn't set foot on an ambulance until it is.
  15. Welcome to the club. I have anxiety myself, unrelated to anything ems, more personal.Mine came and went and rarely rears its head. However if you find yourself stressing about work related incidents you may want help with it. Lets face it. The world today gives us a lot of reasons to be anxious. Life isn't easy. If it interferes with work, affects your treatments, I would reconsider this as your career.
  16. root beer for you preggo, give me the premium stuff and I'll give you this A&W Anyone have any milk duds? whatever that is.. good beer will do. Come on
  17. I'm classifying it as a no way, no how am I transporting this patient until he is more stable and I have a medic on board
  18. Well, I'd like him stable before I consider transporting bls. What's him bp. O2 before and after the non rebreather. The ct is 1.5 hours away. Have they even done one yet? Before the TPA was given? After? How is his conscious level? I think he needs a bird, not a bls crew
  19. The nremt is a national standard. The skills part must be passed first as part of your class, but that part is state standard. The questions are different from person to person, but the bank of questions is the same. I could have taken the test in any state that offered but live near three bordering States and was able to go to any of them to test.
  20. The only lab I understand is Wbc! And I don't see that! Lok
  21. Encephalitis I am still leaning neuro. The low grade fever could just be from the damage to the brain. Anything from tumor to aneurism
