  1. I would say if your test is tomorrow, forget it and get a good nights sleep. Your test will likely be nothing like your last one unless you have the same weaknesses you had then. I didn't have any GCS questions on mine. Good luck!
  2. My main issue was the EMT in the article could hear some and the article made it sound like he had a partner. I know there are electronic stethoscopes that would help and like I said, it sounded like he wasn't alone, but I chose not to argue. It sounded as though he provided excellent patient care and did non emergent transport. I wouldn't have a problem with it. If he was alone, maybe
  3. Lol, no offense at all, but had I been the one administering the test I would have told you to reschedule for a time when you didn't need your coffee and moved on. The place I tested at would have not blinked an eye at denying me to test had I made a deal out of it. But I don't blame you. Give me coffee! !
  4. I thought the NR was adequate. Hard enough to weed out the ones not dedicated. No so hard it couldn't be passed..
  5. That's interesting. I left my ex after 2 years of marriage because he was an ass. Not because of money or sex. What's worse, is I married him blinded obviously by my immaturity at the time.
  6. Your personal experience shows it is not that great of a study guide. I would try jb learning or Vue. Maybe tutoring or a brush up prep course? Good luck!
  7. Seems like a good idea but I'm now pinching all over my body and there is just places skin won't pinch
  8. I am not all that familiar with EMR protocols. I have standing orders for NITRO x 3. Oral glucose, aspirin epi pens etc. Whether I am on call or not, if I am intending to treat someone as an EMT, I have to act within my scope of practice. I call for water just for obvious reasons. Does MD want pt to be npo?. I also want to mention, in your education, how old will you be when you get out of highschool? Both programs you are looking at are post high school studies. I know you want to hurry in to them but you have highschool first and most degree programs start in the fall after highschool.
  9. As an EMT, I can't help open a bottle of their meds or anything unless specifically stated in my protocol. Sure you can as a bystander given you know the patient, you weren't called to them, you aren't treating them.. and you have nothing to do with being a Mr at the time. But then... why would you be assisting them? If you are opening a medication bottle for them and they are in need of help, that medicine just might not be a good idea at that given time. Don't do it. It isn't worth it and how often does someone have hemostatic dressings laying around? If you go to someone with it, you are intending to treat them. It isn't worth it. If they are bleeding that bad, call an ambulance And I don't think you can assist in opening med bottles as an EMR. Treatments can change based on what the patient takes. I don't assist in opening med bottles as an EMT for patients I'm treating. I spike iv bags, I hand my paramedic her bag and open it, but I don't open bottles for patients unless it is: their own nitro, oral glucose, activated charcoal, aspirin or a bottle of water and I even ask my medic or call MD for water if we are a ways out and they are insisting. We are paramedic conditional, sometimes a paramedic is there, sometimes not. If a ride will be a while and patient is thirsty, I won't hesitate to call for water and 9 times out of ten I would be told no. Except in cases if transfers with surgery in the morning.
  10. As an emt, a patient can buy tylenol , but I can't help them with that tylenol. Does that make any sense? As for your first question . The bachelors degree is going to take you 4 years. The associates 2 years. In the end, which degree do you want? Of course a BA is better. Hace you considered a BSN in nursing?
  11. My squad likes the zoll , but the aed patches werent compatible with the patches the police use here on their aeds. So it looks like we have to stay with the LP models And the hospitals. It just makes life a lot easier when everything is compatible .

    Moving on

That's amazing and something to be proud of. I am looking at an A&P class.. and I know after I will crave more and more. Truly an inspiration and you worked hard for where you are at. Fantastic Mike! You have shown us that it can be done if you want it and work hard. Thank you
  13. did you read the article? He does non emergent transport.
  14. My biggest concern with a major trauma would be shock. EMT level of course is keeping patient warm and supine with O2 as needed. Maybe someone else here has heard more about it.
  15. Sounds like her does superior work according to article
  16. Besides not running alone in the back, for obvious reasons (breath sounds, radio report, etc) I think its alright
  17. Tis the season. Had my first motorcycle call yesterday . Was wearing a helmet. Sports bike. Will be fine
  18. Actually I had only a few of either question. I have successfully passed the nremt since posting this
  19. Oh I have no clue on sports bikes. Im a cruiser Kinda gal
  20. how can you make them safer? The loud pipes, while some people think they are annoying are also a safety feature, to be heard. Driving with headlights on... not a whole lot more that can be done. Wear bright colored clothing, or a vest. Have a full faced helmet fitted. A riders jacket. .. Bicycles are hard to spot and get hit by cars, people still ride them. Motorcycles are adding speed to it. That's where defensive driving comes into play. I still choose to ride. I can't say I wear the leather or the boots. I grew up on motorcycles. Unfortunately , if I ever lay one down I'm going to get one hell of a road rash, but I could die from driving my car, eating my steak etc but I enjoy riding and will continue. going down the highway at 90 will just make him catch up to other drivers. I think everyone has laid the bike down at a stop light. Embarrassing to say the least. There is a special way to stand a bike back up that is worth learning My insurance is 300 a year on an 08 vstar 1300
  21. I don't know what kind they were and I don't care, I'm just glad they were there to convince his friends he couldn't ride down the mountain. I thank God for 7hem as dad lost consciousness a short time later. Nurses, paramedics, doctors, hell had they been cnas they probably saved his life by not allowing him back on that bike. He was confused enough he just might have thought it was OK. Dads friends didn't know better.
  22. I guess that's one way of looking at it lol. I will tell you a quick story. My father was in a motorcycle accident last June. He went around a blind turn in the mountains of Colorado and hit some chipped roc k going 35 mph. It was hit a guard rail and superman over a cliff or lay it down.. he laid it down. It took 45 minutes for an ambulance to reach him and luckily a group of bsn nurses were behind him as his friends thought he could ride home. His friend went down the mountain to call 911. He suffered a head injury and a shoulder injury. Luckily his head was OK and was just monitored and a shoulder surgery fixed that. He was not wearing a helmet.
