    ok, now first off, we have 2 full time EMT's that are on duty from about 700 to about 1600 hours on the weekdays. during weekends, evenings, what have you... it's whoever answers the pager, and to my knowledge, we've not missed a call that often. though it may be different in each area. another thing is that alot of times, there's only 2 EMT's on the rig for most runs; one driving, one in back with the patient. and that seems to work out fine for us.

    kind of, back in the late 60's, the "ambulances" were just hearses, and EMT's didn't have much training if any, basically, it was a taxi service. i had done a report on the history of EMS a while back, i should try and find it, if i do i could e-mail it to you.

    ok, i had just thought of this, say you have a patient who you need c-spine precautions for, the only problem is, they are in an area you can't get them out of with while they are on a long board because the stairway is too low and narrow and has too many sharp corners. so my question is, would you put them in a KED and then strap them to a stair chair to get them to the longboard / stretcher, or is there something i had forgotten/ not been taught in my Basic class?

    yes it is actually, i was taught to say "ok, now damn it, we're gonna take this f**king injector, and hold it against your s**ting leg, and then this huge ass needle is gonna force it's way into your dumb ass leg....." lol no, sandy did not tell us to say that.

    i agree with you on that, they would be helpful for MCI's and would have been handy on Oct. 16th 2005 in Eau Claire County when the Chippewa Falls High School Band bus accident occurred, i remember hearing that the county had been swamped, and every ambulance had been called to transport people, those rigs might have been extremely helpful then.
