  1. what does one put on the collar as aprivate medic?, and why would you put anything at all?
  2. wtf, who the hell wears collor brass unless your FD, or PD.
  3. Joseph the CPAT stand for Canidete Physical Agility Test this is a Certified test that is given across the country you can see videos if you go to CPAT.com, it's a pretty good test gets your heart rate up. Now you can google santa ana college fire academy and see the BIDDLE, that one tends to weed out the slugs and females. LA city and LA county require the CPAT, I think because they have to be more PC these days, but most other departments around the area use the Biddle.
  4. If your only 17, further your education before you get into the world of medicine. I mean this EMT thing is a cool hobby and all, you can even do it for free like some morons, but if you want a good foundation join the military, or get into a college RN program your so young the world is yours, and then you will be ready and exposed to what ever comes your way.
  5. What are you talking about the pack tett is cake, and the CPAT is a joke, Ive done both. Now the biddle on the other hand is hardcore most LA and orange county departments use that one physical agility test to weed out all the slugs, done that test too and passed with a good amount of time left.
  6. Dude don't waste your time being a nobody emt, go to RN shcool, I am guessing your a young person who has all the time in world to graduate from a RN program, and its big $$$$$ when you get out. After that you can travel the country and even work on an ambulance if you still want to as a CCT RN.
  7. Stupid privates, I guess times are getting tough, got to make that extra $$$$ anyway how.
  8. To the OP get your medic cert and quick, even if you go through one of those 8 month programs and move out to southern cali there real $$$$$ to be made out here.
  9. This study blows, I don't care just as long as fat people don't become paramedics.
  10. Like theres nothing else shr could do in the army, first of all what the hell is this old chick in the military for anyway, second there are other jobs, Iam not buying it that you can get so down for a failing a test, its just a test.
  11. You don't need a study to answer that. Until medical directors change protocols and not fear any liability patient outcomes will stay the norm. I mean really we can't do a whole lot out in the field compared to hospital services and for very critical patients thatt is where they need to be, not with some medic who thinks he knows it all.
  12. $$$$$$$$, can you say the land of milk and honey.
  13. Is this really a suprise to anyone EMS originated from Fire, plus Fire based ems does not work in all communities. I am a little bias however I do work in a fire based system, and it works very well where I live. EMS is just a steeping stone job and will never ever truly be a career, that is just that.
  14. Hey homeboy like you I to work in southern Cali, and yes when I went into my Chief's oral interview I said I would do anything this job, might throw my way, and yes if I had to partner up with some chick in the fire house so be it, 100 k is a 100 k no matter how you slice it. Until my significant other brings home the bacon then she can say anything she wants, but luckily shes cool with, but I don't have this current issue, the biddle takes care of that.
  15. Hey, Buddy I hate to tell you, that in your interview you said you are willing to do anything for this position, and or something along those ambitious lines, so guess what this is anything. So I suggest you tell your significant other until she makes 100k a year or something like that, that she get over it and let you do your job the best and fullest. best of luck
  16. Chill out homeboy, I to have a two year degree, I just don't think we need the registry to pursue higher standards in this field. As long as people volunteer EMS will never go anywhere. Fire departments are the least of our worries, Do I think that I need a glow in the dark patch to tell an employer I worth an extra 50 cents an hour, No my degree and experience whould give me an extra 50 cents an hour or what ever low paying wage I so choose to go for.
  17. Dumb ass Texans, I guess it's cheaper to die.
  18. Don't do it. The NR is the biggest scam in all of EMS, instead get a two year degree.
  19. What are you talking about This Fracture?, wages are more than desirable in a fire based system.
  20. I get what your saying I to have worked for the RED ambulance White stripe and have ran on those type of calls, but in defense of OC there is a hospital with in 5-8 min everywhere. Still I think the privates should have paramedics, but I can't see the IAFF allowing this or anything even close to a standard that does not envolve calling 911.
  21. WOW this is a sorry attempt to get private ALS in the county, Iam suprised that the IAFF has not stepped in yet and tried to block this from happening. The current model they have is working just fine. I used to work on a CCT car as an EMT with an RN and we didn't even run that many calls in OC to justify our existance LOL (AMR). I guess if it creates more jobs in this current economy, more power to the privates.
  22. Relax homeboy, Iam just saying if I was a private medic I take the gift at hand, we tip people who cut and groom our hair for crying out loud and god knows they have more skills hours on the books then we do. I personaly can't take such a gift on duty since Iam at the will of the tax payers.
  23. Het at least he has a job and is not going to volunteer somewhere for free.
