  1. another example of the need for proper apparatus placement. Put a large chuck of steel in a angle of deflection between you and oncoming traffic. When the cops complain that your taking up to much space give them a stop sign tell them the can take the spot.
  2. So here we go again us verse dem. I have to wonder why after countless blogs, posts and forums it is apparent to me that the bls vs als is unwinable. ALS will always FEEL SUPERIOR, and lets be truthful they are more educated. If all of us slimmy, no good, communist, uneducated bad spellars and chicken thievin basics were to advance up to als they would be left with little to complain about and no one to ridicule. So in reference to that 'your welcome' I would hate to leave all the ALS providers melancholy. They might turn on them selves and begin to eat there young.

  5. FF's OVERCOME BY C.O. ON EMS RUN Thanks Billy G from The Secret List @ www.FireFighterCloseCalls.com Two Salina (KS) Fire Department members were hospitalized and numerous other people were treated at the hospital last night after being overcome by carbon monoxide poisoning in a townhouse. A civilian is also reported dead from this run. The civilian victim was reported to be unconscious and not breathing when SFD firefighters were called to his home around 1900 hours Wednesday. A woman who had been trying unsuccessfully to reach the man called the SFD when she went to his home and discovered him unconscious. She was sickened by carbon monoxide when she entered the townhouse, but was able to get out and call for help. However, an SFD paramedic and firefighter who went into the house upon arrival were quickly overcome, and they collapsed. The Captain and FF/driver who were on the apparatus with them had to go in and pull them out. Additional help was requested, and before the night was over, a total of seven Salina Fire Department members ended up being treated at the hospital for elevated carbon monoxide levels. A Salina police officer also was treated, he said, as was the woman who called 911. The hospital reported that one person had died-would not identify but it was likely the initial victim. The SFD paramedic and firefighter who were the first to enter the townhouse were admitted to the hospital for treatment. The source of the carbon monoxide was a car that had been left running in an attached garage. The car had run out of gas, and the battery also was run down, but SFD Fire Marshal Williams said the engine was still warm. ===========
  6. Norvegian diet... Ole was at the doctor's office. Doc: 'I want you to eat regularly for 2 days, then skip a day, and repeat this procedure for 2 weeks. The next time I see you, you should have lost at least 5 pounds.' When Ole returned, he shocked the doctor by having lost nearly 60 lbs! 'Why, that's amazing!' the doctor said, 'Did you follow my instructions?' Ole nodded..'I'll tell you though, by God, I thought I wuz gonna drop dead on dat 3rd day.' 'From the hunger, you mean?' asked the doctor. Ole: 'Hell no, it wuz from all dat damn skippin'!
  7. A man was arrested after running over his neighbors cat. Seems that when he hit the cat it severed the tail. He did his best at reattaching the tail and that's were his trouble started. Unfortunately it's illegal to retail pussy in Montana

  10. to my knowledge nurses and other staff take the same course and use the same criteria for cpr as everybody else. That being said I wonder if the ER staff are using info on there monitors combined with education and experience to give them criteria to go outside the standard rates and techniques. Question on the patient you witness did all of the ER staff increase the rate of compressions or just one or two. If it is the later I would say that they were just too amped up. The perfect song to time your compressions by is ironicaly 'another one bites the dust' by queen.
  11. if it doesn't make it can we cook it?
  12. Has any one seen a c-collar system using vacuum splint technology. If you think about it wouldn't elongate the neck, allow movement, it would conform to the patient and could be built to bridge out to the shoulders and give a better base to the c-collar. Fore that matter it could be formed in such a manner as to support the head as well so the weight would not be suspended by a neck that is immobilized. One of you guys develop that and become a millionaire.

    My mother is ill

My father went threw 6 weeks in CICU after a unsuccessful bypass surgery and I can sympathize with your problem. I think once the nurses get use to the idea of you being there they will be a good allies. They were for me.

  20. Lets try this approach in teaching this new basic, first don't yank his had away you will freak him and the patient. You need to have control of your student prior to the call as a preceptor. Second try out this explanation on palpation " you are looking for lands mines if you see one or find one don't play with it but you do have to look'. What I am trying to express is that you need to palpate the ab to locate any problems but once that is done we (as basics) really don't the skills to produce any more useful findings threw continued palpation. In summation a palpation of the abdomen should be done at all levels but once a significant finding is found then further examination should be weighted with a cost verse gain approach. It is assumed that all other investigative avenues are being used like history vitals etc.
  21. Tnuigs I pushed your post about the FDA up to the state level citing only the sources and guess what? They are gonna use it anyway, who da thunk.
  22. Well this has been fun it started with a discussion on the king airway but because a basic brought it that point fell out to the old traditional paramedics rule basics drool argument. but I would still like to know dust do you think the king is a good device. Also there was some pending problems with the king airway and the FDA, how did that come out. As far as the age old basic verse paramedic argument if we throw money out of the equation and did strictly what was best for the patient we would have a ER doc and nurse plus a basic for a driver on ever call in every state but this is the real world know what?

All this animosity stems from "HOSE envy". Sadly its true some people feel woefully under equipped to handle all situations so they choose to canonize the one the have mastered. Its a shame really all they need is a little confidence building and they to will feel adequate in most situations. But one truth still remains some of use can be firemen and emt's some can't. P.S. I love stirring the pot Merry Christmas to all
  24. So often people are tried by the media and it takes weeks for the truth to come out and then it is usually under reportered. If you want positive media coverage you need to were tights and a cape, go topless or defame the current regime. Other wise you could start the pope's heart with your radio battery and still get arrested for assault.
