  14. Park your ego at the door and remember who we are there for.
  15. It sounds to me as if you try to intervene you will be in a disput with the MD and parents I think it would be best to have your medical director inquire with the MD to see if there is a problem and if you cant resolve it there then go to child services. Its no fun bein the bad guy in this but if you suspect something is wrong then you should
  16. I want to explore the meth road any chemical smell meth lab components. Two down similar problems its ingested and or environmental anything note worthy in the yard or the house it may have ended in the backyard but might of started inside. For me upgrade to ALS start gathering info and do a thurough head to to run threw the pockets ect. any findings
  17. OK first off nice detective work you guys. at my level o2, transport, initiate IV in route, notify med control of findings and upgrade to als at their discretion or if patient worsens.
  18. can we have a blood sugar please and a expanded medical history directed towards mental health also do we have a track record for her BP and a last oral intake? also any signs of dehydration.
  19. If the EMT decides not to backboard he is making the statement that the patients spine has been cleared of any injury. By what method can we do that in the field? Or the EMT is stating that the MOI was not sufficient to consider spinal injury. I personally would have to backboard considering the given info. As far as the fire/EMT not choosing to backboard does not stop you from doing what you feel and are trained is in the best interest of the patient.
  20. Yes EMS should be trained in rescue. first for there safety second to expedite the safe removal of the patient from the hazard or entrapment. Now if you are going to train in these fields then you need to be equipped and and kept proficient at them. This can be cost prohibitive for the agency. Should EMT.s entangle themselves in the rescue or extrication all the time no. But being able to lend a hand or transfer between positions will definitely be helpful. Also being cross trained in fire, medical and rescue will make you a more desirable employee when looking for a job. I think a lot of the old timers are resistant to the all risk training approach is because then they would no longer be at the top of there field.

    5 Year old shot

Had a similar call this spring 7 yr old shot hit in ab better outcome then yours but until we knew that I second guessed myself. and yes there were things that I would have done differently not life changing things but important and I agonized about them. But in the long run I accepted that we do the best we can with what were given and move them up the chain we didn't make the problem we just deal with it. and yes I'm glad you care about the outcome your the kind of person I want caring for my child when the chips are down
  22. How many bottles should they go threw man that's hard to say. but I do know from previous experience that dehydration and body temperature are huge problems. I have seen studies of FF's core temp climbing to 104 in a working fire. And the base line fitness of the FF is important yearly fit tests or Pak tests are not out of line and if that doesn't go over to well try intercollegiate sports participation or if they are on shifts daily exercise. BP criteria is critical to say in a percentage but if they rehab after a couple of evolutions inside they should rest until there vitals return to near normal. Also try to convince them to prehydrate on the way to the call.
