  1. We are about half way through our cardiac lectures.
  2. Nope our two main instructors come out of the P.A. area. We are completely on our own for the two weeks between classes and there is no peer/group studying in between because we each live a minimum of two and half hours from eachother, in any given direction and we all work. So the only type of scenarios that we practice at home are assessing our pets and loved ones after work and in spare time. So that raises the question; does anyone have any ideas on how I could scenario practice on my own? What I'm doing at the moment is simply trying to memorize all the assessment stuff and text book information that I feel maybe of help to a scenario. This method is working for me but just barely I'm passing the scenarios. Any suggestions?
  3. Thanks. I'm taking one of the part time courses that run usually every other weekend for a year, we should be done around october.
  4. No I never have had any problems with public speaking. The problem is that our scenario is graded on this rurberic http://programs.siast.sk.ca/ehc/PCP/Scenar...CP%20Rubric.pdf and another checklist type of deal. So the more you tell (proving the more you understand) the better your grade will be. So one can't just say that I'm wearing my BSI and he has a pulonary embolism (because of recent surgery, diminished lung sounds, sharp chest pain and his vitals are out of wack) ,bad example but I hope you get the picture. I hate to sound as thou I'm complaining but, any ideas at to remembering ALL that was learned and then remembering to apply it all to any given scenario? Or I'm just simply looking at the situation in a manner that's not working for me and that can be changed?
  5. I'm not sure how I go about moving this post to the canadian forum. I find that my problem comes with all scenarios, thus far, and that I can't seem to be as verbalized as we're intended to be. At the same time keep mental track of the past, present and future of the call and remembering to verbalize all the minute things. For example not only say that I'm wearing my gloves but why, what bodily fluids am I protecting myself from and then going threw the rest of the BSI equiptment. I can understand that we need to prove we understand the scenario and the equiptment, but somewhere in the scenario I get lost in what all I need to say and what I really need to do.
  6. I wasn't sure to put this post so here seemed as good of place as any. Im taking my pcp course and am having some difficulty not with the bookwork nor the written tests, it's the scenarios that I'm having huge difficulties with. My course is done with SIAST. The trouble I having is trying to remember what I want to do, what I'm doing, why I'm going to do what I think I'm going to do, reevaluating what I have done, ect, verbalize it all and stay on track so i don't kill my pt., in a timely manner. Does anyone here have any ideas that I could possibly find useful?
  7. I realize that the topic is on state vehicle licensure, but for fun I'll throw a little Canadian fact in. I live in Saskachewan and here we need to do obtain a class 4, to drive ambulance. It also gives you the ok to drive a cop car and taxi.
  8. I had a $25 sprague it was alright untill I droped it once and it broke in two. I now have a classic 2 Littmann and so far so good.
  9. I have done my first few shifts with Jenny. I'll truly miss her, and I'm sorry for loss of her family, friends and other coworkers.
  10. I work with a rural service and I feel that although we have slower response times it would be difficult to respond any qiucker. Considering the sometimes 50km distances and typical Saskatchewan weather. But if you have any better ideas than what are in place I would like to hear what you have in mind.
  11. I work as a casual EMR, as I go to school to become a PCP. At the current I make $17.65 an hour.
  12. http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/corpaf...20081008e.shtml better?
  13. As well as enjoying candy corn i love the milk chocolate coins, but it looks like i'm going to have to go without this year. http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/corpaf.../2008/20081008e Happy Halloween everyone!
  14. I'll check in to the A&P course. The plan thus far is to take the course through ML in the fall. Btw thanks a lot guys, I really appreciate the knowledge of the experienced.
  15. I'm taking it in Saskatchewan and its a part time course, through SIAST but in a different location. I kind of have a job lined up in the same town where I'm taking the course. I'm not sure what an A&P course is but, the plan is to take the EMR course and get the class 4 license and drive ambulance while I got to school on the part time basis. I've decided on a part time course so I could work while I'm going to shcool.
  16. I'm new to the whole EMS world. I'm just finishing grade 12 (so yah, I'm a complete 'newbe' in all aspects). I have just gotten accepted to a collage for the PCP course. I had done some ride alongs, although there hasn't been much for calls, I really enjoyed the experience. I was wondering if anyone had any advice or heads ups that they would like to share. Advice being anything from what i should expect from schooling, to the emt profession, to anything else anyone would like to share. Thanks!
  17. I'm new to this site and am starting to get the hang of things. I came upon your blog and tried to access Alyssa's guestbook, but was unsuccessful. Best wishes to Alyssa and to the rest of your family.
