  1. Now that's a school I'd send my prospective students to. What a great idea.
  2. No Dwayne, it's how to speak Drunkenese - Dr. Bledsoe and his crew put together a video commercial on how to speak Drunkenese in order to understand the drunks you encounter every day. It was pretty funny but it is really only funny once. The other videos that they have out are also pretty good. Good job Dr. Bledsoe.
  3. She really didn't define her limp. That's going to be the gold standard as to how she is able to work or not. Were I a hiring manager and she had a limp but she passed the agility portion of the interview, and she was a good candidate, she'd get the nod for hiring. She'd then of course have to prove herself in the EMS arena piece as well. Not saying that she'd get special treatment but can anyone honestly say that she "wouldn't????" Girl with a disability, EMS agency, ADA and all that. Sure she'd get extra time to prove herself. But in the end, she has to be able to do the same job as her partner because putting her out on the streets and her not being able to do the job not only puts her but it also puts everyone else on scene at risk of injury if her limp or disabiliyt is worse than she lets on. Case in point, worked with a very heavy male medic who was on disability through work for about 3 months due to a medical issue. He was about 350+ pounds. When he came back I thought that maybe he was even larger than he was when he left on disability. My concern was his returning to work and being my partner. He was given many shifts to prove that he was physically fit to return to duty but when the time came for hom to be off of a three man crew, it was decided that he wasn't able to do the job. That sucked when it came to that because his livelihood was on the line. A group of us came up with some options for him to remain active in the service as a QI/QA manager as well as liaison to the hospitals in our area. It worked out well for him. So even though she may not be able to do the job in the end, there is no harm in her finding out if she can. let's also remember that first impressions are incredibly important and some EMS systems will take a look at her when she walks in and form the impression that she can't do the job when she does her fact finding info tour and try to steer her away from doing the job.
  4. Well the girl in your class was just stupid. Pardon my bluntness but seriously, there have been countless shows on TV that depict EMT's and medics and there is blood in those shows. There are shootings and stabbings reported on the news and the news usually says that the patient was transported by ambulance to the hospital so the girl who passes out at the sight of blood was just a moron for not realizing that they would eventually see blood. I agree with your point, she should have done at least a ride or a shift in the ER but have you ever tried to get a shift in an ambulance or a observer shift in an ER without being attached to some class or educational experience? The possiblity of her getting in an ER to observe is slim to none unless she knows someone. Or getting a shift on an ambulance service to observe might be a bit easier but again, no attachment to an education system then difficult to get a shift. But on to your other comment on the chunk of change. Of course the person needs to do research into the job, but to let the naysayers tell her that her disability or limp won't allow her to do the job and her to take that as the truth, she needs to get her head out of the sand and do the research. We assumed that she had done the research since she said that she "really really really wants to be an EMT". Maybe we were wrong. But in all honesty, it's either do it or not, it's up to the OP, not us to fulfill her dreams. See that's the issue with these forums, we don't know if this person is truly serious or if they just come here to whine and say "wha wha wha, my friends say that I can't do this or I can't do that" All we can do is give advice and tell them, if they want it bad enough there's a will and a way and it's up to them to do the legwork. It's not up to us to do the job of finding out all the info for them. That's what frustrates me the most.
  5. maybe not that blatant. But DWAYNE, are you reading this, you might want to see about contracting out with Kat's team. Doesn't seem that you will have any problems with your internet surfing on his outfit.
  6. Just make sure that you have the internet and it better be fast. We don't want your medics to suffer without porn like Dwayne has.
  7. Thanks Dennis, you know had I have listened to all the naysayers in my life I would not be where I am today. I say screw them all. If you want something bad enough, just do it. There are a bunch (millions) of unhappy people out there because they let someone else keep them from doing something that they really wanted to do. But they listened to the negativity and now they are pissed or unhappy doing something they don't like doing.
  8. One year, while working at the hospital, one of the radiological techs came over to do an x-ray on a 5 year old. He was dressed as Death. He freaked the kid out, and then the parents got pissed and then Bill was asked to go home and change. Not sure why his manager didn't tell him that his outfit was inappropriate for the venue. I also agree that costumes in EMS is silly and not good practice.
  9. I never meant to allude that the doc could win. HES TOAST but yes he has to settle a jury will crucify him. Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
  10. I can imagine we will never know what happened as this will be settled out of court fully and probably the details will be sealed, or at least the details of the settlement will be. The doctor will never ever ever ever admit fault nor will they ever talk in public. But the family will. That's the side that we will hear from.
  11. DWayne, you need to copy some porn on your laptop. At least then you will be prepared and you wouldn't have to rely on the internetz to look at pictures alone. Give Bab's my best, she's gonna need it after you get home. Is your insurance up to date? Or maybe you should just get some short pygmy PNG chick on the side. What happens in PNG stays in PNG
  12. So let me get this straight, you put a medic there when you have 2 other fire stations less than 3 minutes away. Sounds like a overuse of resources to me. It's one thing to put a medic on his own there inside the casino but to place a ambulance there with a 1 minute response time versus a full response of 3 minutes seems silly. The casino's in the KC MO area have full time medics on duty 24 hours a day. Do they think that the calls will just stop when the medic goes home? I think this is just a waste of resources but a killer PR move for both the auto dealer and the city.
  13. I echo Mike's statement as well as the one by curiosity. You didn't tell us where you are from but I'm sure that there are people here that are from where you are from that could offer personal guidance as to where to go to get the info on a agility test. Why not call the local EMS agency and ask if they require a agility or pre-employment agility test. Then ask them who it's performed by. IF they say it's an outside agency then find out what that agency is and go to that agency asking them to run you through the test. You may have to pay to get tested though and that may be expensive. OR OR OR OR OR OR I have a novel idea ------ why not just get your butt in a EMT class and screw the naysayers and negative nellies and just do it. What do you have to lose?
  14. Yeah that was a given. Darwin missed another. Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2

  17. he quit prior to being fired. He saw the writing on the wall. He ended up moving to another state to start to terrorize those citizens.
  18. I was reading that. What a good thing to come from the tragedy of long ago. I did a lot of research into the challenger tragedy when it happened and then again many years after it and With the challenger tragedy nothing would have saved the crew. The Discovery might be a different story. I'm not up to date on it. It would be good that if this suit were to be able to be put to practical use for our astronauts, what a good thing it would be. It's always the sensational that sticks in our minds bbut the behind the scenes is where it's really at. I'll have to get my son to start to research what Felix and his colleagues have done behind the scenes and maybe he can learn something even more than what the jump itself did. He's a science smart kid, maybe he can submit anything he learns to one of those science contests. hmmmmmmmmm something to think about.
  19. I guess this is just something you can't top~
  20. Are you sure we aren't talking about the same medic? Same medic, Told one patient, Damn you are drunk, if you weren't so drunk I'd ask you out. Another classic, "What the hell have you been eating, your breath smells like some dog took a crap in your mouth. We got a refusal out of that one and a call into the office. The list goes on and on. The best one was this one. We had just finished coding a gentleman in the ER, we worked both the EMS and the ER. Once the patient was called and all the paperwork was done and the family had said their goodbyes, we were escorting out the wife and son, and this medic walks in to the room (before the famliy had left but they were on the other side of the curtain), and said "So let's practice on him" I kid you not. The family turned right back around, and rushed back in demanding to know what "he was going to practice on" He couldn't stammer enough, The physician, the medical director, the nurse manager of the ER, the hospital nursing director and the CEO of the hospital all got called that day and we had a huge meeting along with the hospital attorney. Our ED had a practice of letting some of the inexperienced medics practice on intubating patients who had expired. (I know bad bad bad form), but many hospitals do it but have never been caught red handed "YET". The patient's family blew a gasket when the ER doctor told them what the medic meant. They refused to leave "harry's side" until he left with the funeral home. Our practice ended that very day. We nearly got sued but I'm not sure how far it went. All thanks to "mouthy medic" who could not keep his mouth shut until the family was gone.
  21. This guy took my son's interest and kept it. My son now has a new hero but I'm still his ultimate hero of course. Super hero dad of course. But this guy, damn, what a nut job, I'm not really sure why he did this. I'm sure it's for the furtherment of science and how far the human body can be pushed but has he reached the limit of where he can go. He went to the edge of space. IF he goes to outer space and tries to re-enter the atmosphere, he's a goner for sure unless he has a new super suit. So what else can he do??? I'm sure he's up for suggestions. Anyone want to offer any here for him?
  22. I heard the drop the patient line but it was augmented with "well we met our quota today so we don't have any more people to drop today" or something stupid like that. Why not just introduce yourself and say what seems to be the problem? There is no one specific entry line that works for everyone and everypatient. To expect a golden phrase that you can use every time is expecting too much. Just don't walk into the house and utter "holy shit, what the hell happened to you" and then follow it up with "how the hell are we going to get your fat ass out of here?" This is liable to get you knocked in the head by a family member. I know this by experience watching a former burned out medic do exactly that. He got clocked by a family member and spent the rest of the day in the emergency dental clinic getting the two teeth the family member knocked out put back in.
  23. Medicgirl, there are surgeries that will fix that boob problem you know.
