  1. Happiness, yes this is the story of a man who committed suicide, but more to the point the series of events that led to him taking his own life & the fact that he felt he was forced into this action through a 3rd party, uninvolved. There is possible impications in this for all of us, especially considering EMS has a lot of 'Black' humour that many people would consider offensive, but to us is simply a coping mechanism. How would you feel if someone reported you for an off the cuff comment to your partner that they considered offensive, especially if it related to a case you had just been on?
  2. I think there is one being human right missed when 'charges' are laid. I myself was just typing a reply in another thread (yes I still posted it regardless) & realised that what i typed could be construed as ageist. As many of you know I am 19 (have been for years) but I also joke with many people here, whom I have developed friendships with, over their age. I will name them now, because they joke with me also, soem of those could be considered offensive, if they are taken out of context. Some of these include Lone Star, Owleymedic, medicnorth, itku2er, hell even ak & dustdevil! What is neglected in many of these cases, as with many departmental charges, is that the person is immediatley assumed guilty until they prove their innocense. This is the reverse of most progressive legal systems. This case, as with most others that are similar, should be addressed quickly & with a simple question. The details we have of this case are that there was 1 person who the comment was made to, who took no offence to it. That is where this should end. The 3rd party, although correct in reporting it because they would not know if this was a case of systemic bullying & harrassment, should be advised that nothing further would come of it. How many times, in every day, do we say something that can be interpreted differently from what was meant? The continual pandering to this Politically Correct BS has to stop. People need to take control of their own destiny. If I say something that offends you, as this man did, speak to me first, tell me, because I may not have realised. If it continues, then there may be a reason to go to managment.
  3. I guess so, but you still have a way to go to catch the likes of owley......ut then everyone has a LONG way to go to catch owley
  4. Technician Roy Amor kills himself after row over 'racist' joke A HEALTH technician shot himself in the head after being suspended for making a politically incorrect joke. Roy Amor had jokingly told a black friend and colleague that he "better hide" after he spotted immigration officials at their workplace, Britain's Mail on Sunday reported. Although the man was not offended, someone who overheard the remark was, and complained to Mr Amor's bosses at Opcare, which makes prosthetic limbs. Mr Amor, 61, was said to be devastated at the prospect of losing his job and shot himself outside his house, near Bolton, England, just hours after receiving an email from his bosses. The email had asked him to explain his comment. According to The Mail on Sunday, Mr Amor left three notes, all of which mentioned Opcare. One of his friends told the paper: "Roy made a joke along the lines that his friend had better hide in case the officers found him. "It was nothing more than a good-humoured joke but apparently someone overheard it and made an official complaint because they thought it was racist. "Roy was devastated when he was suspended and was worried he might lose his job." Mr Amor had worked at the prosthetics clinic for 30 years and had not faced any disciplinary action before.. Edit of typo only
  5. While it doesnt look good, I think in fairness we should see her civilian driving record before passing judgment. It could be that she is not yet capable of driving heavy vehicles. If this is the case, then it is the fault of the department in failing to train staff properly & appropriately. I t could also be they are using innappropriate vehicles (when a full root cause analysis occurs). Conversly, if she has held the appropriate licence & has experience driving heavy vehicles with a poor record away from the department, then she should be barred from driving & the person who hired her should be suspended pending investigation for failure to employ appropriatley qualified persons! There is an onus on an employer to ensure that a potential employee has the qualifications & experience required to do the job they are being employed for. There is also an onus on the employer to ensure appropriate & ongoing training in all facets is addressed.
  6. I think we need to see her pic before we pass judgment......
  7. Paddy and Mick were both laid off, so they went to the unemployment office... When asked his occupation, Paddy answered, 'Knicker Stitcher. I sew da elastic onto ladies' knickers and thongs.' The clerk looked up Knicker Stitcher on his computer and, finding it classified as unskilled labour, he gave Paddy £80 a week unemployment pay. Mick was next in and when asked his occupation replied, 'Diesel Fitter.' Since a diesel fitter was a skilled job, the clerk gave Mick £160 a week. When Paddy found out he was furious. He stormed back into the office to find out why his friend and co-worker was collecting double his pay. The clerk explained, 'Knicker Stitchers are unskilled labour and Diesel Fitters are skilled labour.' 'What skill?' yelled Paddy. 'I sew da elastic on da knickers and thongs, Then Mick puts 'em over his head and says: 'Yep, diesel fitter.'

    Viagra

A man went to the doctor's office to ask for a double dose of Viagra. The doctor told him that he couldn't allow him a double dose. "Why not?' asked the man. "Because it's not safe,' replied the doctor.. "But I need it really bad,' said the man. "Well, why do you need it so badly?' asked the doctor. The man said, "My girlfriend is coming into town on Friday; My ex-wife will be here on Saturday; and my wife is coming home on Sunday. Can't you see? I must have a double dose." The doctor finally relented saying, "Okay, I'll give it to you,but you have to come in Monday morning so that I can check you to see if there are any side effects." On Monday, the man dragged himself in; his right arm in a sling. The doctor asked, "What happened to you?" The man said, "No one showed up.

  10. Priest was about to finish his tour of duty, and was leaving his Mission in the jungle where he has spent years teaching the natives when he realizes that the one thing he never taught them was how to speak English. So he takes the chief for a walk in the forest. He points to a tree and Says to the chief, 'This is a tree.' The chief looks at the tree and grunts, 'Tree.' The Priest is pleased with the response. They walk a little further and he Points to a rock and says, 'This is a rock.' Hearing this, the chief looks and grunts, 'Rock.' The Priest was really getting enthusiastic about the results when he hears a rustling in the bushes. As they peek over the top, he sees a couple of natives in the midst of heavy sexual activity. The Priest is really flustered and quickly responds, 'Man riding a bike.' The chief looks at the couple briefly, pulls out his blowgun and kills them. The Priest goes ballistic and yells at the chief that he has spent years teaching the tribe how to be civilized and be kind to each other, so how could he kill these people in cold blood that way? The chief replied, 'My bike.' Enjoy your day and remember to keep off the roads when riding someone else's bicycle!
  11. Can we add the internet to this quote as well? Touche. They not only look it up in class Annie, but also in the chat, one of my bug bears here i have to admit. 80% is fair, i would be asking before the little darlings start 'What is your expectation of you examination result?' If they answer less than 80% they are an automatic fail. Beatings are always an option. I do think that it is a generational thing. We have gen Y - Y me? Y not, Y do i have to work up from tyhe bottom? I think that as the years progress we will see that this demented mentality wil subside & those in the Gen Y mentality will realise that their expectations of entitlement are deluded & need to be curtailed when all starts to fail (a gross generalisation I know, I do admit there are those in Gen Y who are the opposit if what is described. Please humour me Dont change the thread, It wasnt intended to be a bash Gen Y thing, just stating observations). Maybe we could make you Annie the Dominatrix & you can administer the beatings!!!!!!
  12. Annual recertification of public masterbation????? The hosemonkeys will winn every year!!!!!
  13. Thats only cause you are ols & cynical dusty!!!!! :)
  14. What compells people to cheat is beyond me. I agree with lone, but what people fail to remember is that 'rights' mean responsibilies. I also know a number of people who have done very well in practicals etc, but when they are confronted with an exam, they are unable to do it. Has this compelled them to cheat? Not the ones I know, it gave them more determination to suceed. The notion that by cheating as was described is really only going to prove that the person is a liar & a cheat in the long run. If I cheat on an EMS exam & get licenced etc & once I start working show a complete & utter lack of knowledge, who is going to suffer? The patient & the reputation of the entire profession. Most of all the one person that has been cheated is themselves. Ultimatley, if they need to cheat for the answers, they will try to cheat their entire lives, & that is a life of deception.
  15. Dust, I wouldnt complain if the hose monkey tossers looked like that, i mean i saw this & almost list my brains to join them
  16. It is only a ruse that he dont appear that dumb, Sarah Palin made him look intelligent....... Reality is he was just jealous of Clinton & he was trying to rub a bit of luck so he could pull some babes.... either that or he was frisking him for a cigar to try on Laura..... Oh the fun we can have at his expense.....
  17. At a Senior Citizen's luncheon, an elderly gentleman and an elderly lady struck up a conversation and discovered that they both loved to fish. Since both of them were widowed, they decided to go fishing together the next day. The gentleman picked the lady up, and they headed to the river to his fishing boat and started out on their adventure. They were riding down the river when there was a fork in the river, and the gentleman asked the lady, 'Do you want to go up or down?' All of a sudden the lady stripped off her shirt and pants and made mad passionate love to the man right there in the boat ! When they finished, the man couldn't believe what had just happened, but he had just experienced the best sex that he'd had in years. They fished for a while and continued on down the river, when soon they came upon another fork in the river. He again asked the lady , 'Up or down ?' There she went again, stripped off her clothes, and made wild passionate love to him again. This really impressed the elderly gentleman, so he asked her to go fishing again the next day.. She said yes and there they were the next day, riding in the boat when they came upon the fork in river, and the elderly gentleman asked, 'Up or down ?' The woman replied, 'Down.' A little puzzled and disappointed, the gentleman guided the boat down the river when he came upon another fork in the river and he asked the lady,'Up or down ?' She replied, 'Up.' This really confused the gentleman so he asked, 'What's the deal? Yesterday, every time I asked you if you wanted to go up or down you made mad passionate love to me. Now today, nothing!' She replied, 'Well, yesterday I wasn't wearing my hearing aid and I thought the choices were fuck or drown.
  18. Jake, great post. I think my last was one that showed I wasnt wanting a pissing contest either. Put simply, IF we are given the right education, we are given the opportunities for professional development, there will be little or no ned for any med control. I resent the notion that I should have to seek direction in my practice of pre-hospital medicine. As welsh stated, threre are a number of things that contribute to this, (no offence intended to thosese who are vollies) vollies, how can I expect someone to pay out money for learning & development as well as turning up for nothing? & the whole fire monkey thing (maybe that is the reason to keep med control - monkey see monkey do), what is their focus, providing real EMS or using it as a reason to get more pay & benefits. As I said, there are those who are posting here who occasionally use med control but prefer to use their brains, but there are those who forgot long ago how to do that, instead prefering to lean on med control. That needs to be stamped out. Phil
  19. Cant this be doen if you pass an appropriate full report to the hospital. Eg, driver Gender, age, apparent injuries, signs & symptoms? this is an obvious S7S that can be passed & then the hospital makes a decision.
  20. Dwayne, mate, You & I have talked & you know my position. The situation you described was a good one, the fact you had med control state you were doing the right thing was a bonus. I say that because you are a thinking medic. You think about your patient first, their outcomes & how you can make them better. There are those however who are more concerned with a CYA mentality, an attitude of yeah i got he bit of paper that says I am a medic, but i will fall back on med control to make the final decision for me. These guys are putting the advancement of our great (sans fire) profession. They are in all services worldwide. That said, this thread was about a predominatley American issue, Med Control. While it may appear to be a bashing, it is criticisms that we, standing on the outside see, a devils advocate position. The thread is in essence asking if med control should be maintained or removed & the debate has continued to & fro with those in favour & thise against holding handbags at 10 paces. (Yep, i am one of them!!!!!). I have never claimed my education is superior, only that our training & levels are different & have suggested that a review as to the appropriatness of current levels in the US (This is a US based site & most members are from the US) & maybe they should be reviews, with some (EMT-B in particular) upgraded to make them more appropriate for current worldwide practice. The education content itself needs to be addressed, especially when in the chat I have heard outdated principals of the golden hour etc are still taught as gospel. How can we be taken seriously when this is the case? I am a firm believer in removal of med control because I do not see any overall benefit. I support Clinical assistance, either online or on phone, specifically for what you describe, but does it really need to be a doctor? My service has sucessfully introduced a referral program where a triage nurse sits on the phone & takes a Hx from a patient prior to dispatch if the person has answered specific questions in the initial call, & they are now being routinly not taking up ambulance time & resources. With the advent of PDA & smartphones, we now have unprecedented acces to publications that give us a full detail of every drug on the market, would we not be better to utilize these, with our education to make a judgement? Yes med control is foreign to me, does it make it wrong? Not really. Could EMS in the US be done better? Most definitly. Is the US alone in this? HELL NO. Anyone who is deluded enough to believe thet work for a eutopian service is publicly masterbating & should be locked up in the funny farm. Medicine, or more correctly, All medicine is a perpetually evolving animal that we, as professionals & as a profession need to be perpetiually advancing our knowledge & skills with current practice. Med control, as dust said, is a hang over from the 70's, we have changed a lot since the 70's, so why have we not changed from a med control environment into more modern & appropriate practice?
