This device is not used in EMS treatment, rather home-based protection for patient awaiting ICD implant or who are not candidates for implantable defibrillators. Just a heads up, as the indications and use of this device expand it may be something else you encounter.

The Res-Q-Pod prevents the individual that is ventilating the patient from delivering breaths that will exceed a set pressure.

The idea being if you can reduce the amount of pressure in the thorax, you will allow better blood return to the heart while compressions are being performed. Think of it as a circulation adjunct instead of a ventilation adjunct.

Is this however, going to go back to the days of the "Thumper" and the Mast trousers, great for a while, take up the cabinets, cost an arm and a leg and ooops we dont use it any more put it on ebay and sell it on?

Although you brought back quite an old thread that is a good question. This is why ROC PRIMED (a clinical trial being conducted across North America) is evaluating the benefits of the ITD in increasing survival to hospital discharge.
