I have gone hardcore, I'm getting my MD so that I can make a careerer out of bettering EMS

I'm almost 20 in... and now pursuing a completely different career... I don't know if I'll EVER want to leave completely, but for a paid career, I'll be out in 3 years.... as for volunteer, I love being a positive influence on the community and may be here forever!

That's funny, I signed up for a three-year volunteer stint, but am seriously considering going on to paramedic for the paid career...

I'm with you phil, I used to work for a living! The study load is getting me down but thats my own stupid fault

I get paid to sleep. Honestly, I've got a better chance getting a nap at work then at home. Where else do you get that? My current call volume is about perfect. Enough to keep you from getting bored. Not enough to burn you out.

It's been thirty-two years now, and I have yet to burn out of EMS.

I did, however, burn out in EMS after thirteen years.
