  1. Well holy crap!!!! Congratulations!!!! Wooo Hoooo!! =D> :D/  :occasion5: :occasion9:
  2. You may go here to download a re-registration requirements brochure. http://www.nremt.org/EMTServices/rr_basic_history.asp I don't see where it is required that you take a 24-hr refresher course. I read that you have the option to complete the required credits *OR* take the refresher. Unless they have changed this and not bothered to update the website, then you have a choice.

  4. I graduated my EMT-B class, passed and tested out last May. Because we are a low-volume agency, I take every and all CE classes I can get to and thus, have already acquired all but one of the necessary CE's to renew my license with the state. I can't imagine how many I will have at the end of three years! They're easy to get. In reviewing those credits last week, I began to wonder what the NREMT required and for the life of me, I have NOT been able to find that info on their website. I must be dumb and blind. Now, I'm sorting through this thread and am thoroughly confused. Can someone tell me exactly what is required for me to re-new my NREMT when the time comes? I've read the NREMT site, it's as clear as mud. Thank you! SARgal :edited: Found the link RIGHT after posting this... not surprised... LOL Here it is for anyone else.. http://www.nremt.org/EMTServices/rr_basic_history.asp
  5. I'm very impressed by your positive attitude, Beth. I'm sure you'll do just fine this time 'round. Good for you for keeping your chin up. SARgal
  6. Well, what i described is a handheld GPS receiver. Not a navigator. I have a navigator in my vehicle which is nice for finding an address, not GPs coordinates. I wasn't aware they made these in a handheld version. Although, I guess I can take it off the dash and carry it while it's on... Yes it has door to door directions. It also will display a map of where you are and highlights the road you must take to your destination. I STILL feel nothing beats a good paper map. Keep one as a backup. My vehicle navigator is also a Garmin. I find it takes a bit of time to input the address. Maybe it's just me (slowwwwww...). Also, it is only as accurate as the person who submitted the street names to whoever/whatever software it uses. So whatever guy said that "Lighthouse Road" is just down the street from me is completely wrong! LOL But there it is on my Garmin. Human error. (This mistake also shows up on Google Maps, Mapquest, etc...) Good luck! SARgal
  7. I use a Garmin eTrex Legend. It's the one with black and white screen and I would prefer the color. Color shows up better in most conditions. I'm not sure what you mean by the difference between it and a map. You really do need to know how to use a map, as well as know how to use a compass. This model has a map screen... if that helps you - also a compass screen. I use mine mostly on Searches. When we have our subject's coordinates (and they remain stationary) it is ideal. It'll take us right to the spot if satellite coverage is decent. Sometimes out in the woods, the density of the trees will interfere a little. When the subject's coordinates are unknown, we use it to track areas where we've already searched. That information is uploadable to our Sheriff's department mapping system on the computer. When my hubby and I are out in the woods, scoping out hunting blinds, I will set waypoints in the desirable places, then come home to upload them to my own mapping software. The topo map gives him a birdseye view of the roads, rivers, lakes and the topography. He usually knows all that anyway... but it's interesting to me. It's usefulness really depends on what you want to do with it. If you have specific questions, you can pm me. SARgal
  8. Our unit uses a tracking dog. He's not used on all searches, it depends on the circumstances.
  9. Although I didn't see these pants specifically, I was in the Duluth Pack store a couple of weeks ago and can vouch that all of their canvas stuff is softer than you can imagine it would be. Rugged, but not stiff. ok, ok, hold your comments! The leather goods were incredible and so very expensive. SARgal
  10. Stage 3, score of 104 I really did not have the 5 minutes it took to play this! LOL But it was a great escape from an otherwise scary-hectic day! :blob3: SARgal
  11. Cute little time waster here...
  12. Yes, in my experience, caffeine eases asthma symptoms. I've had to 'treat' my daughter's asthma with a can of Coke before. She left her albuterol MDI in school that day and didn't realize it until bedtime, when she needed it. She was 13 at the time and a little p.o.'d that the soda kept her up half the night! I had her drink half the can and it was enough to stop the coughing/wheezing. I can't see myself treating a patient with caffeine though. I am only a Basic, and if I have a Pt with difficulty breathing, I've got ALS on the way. If my Pt has no medication that I can assist with, then I'm going get this guy moving, finish out my SAMPLE, get some vitals, give lots of assurance and meet ALS en route. I don't see where stopping for a cup of Java fits in there. But I am VERY new, I still have lots to learn. Could be I'm wrong...
  13. [web:1a7ae40682]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doublemint[/web:1a7ae40682] So who will be the first to post a picture of themselves doing a handstand?
  14. Thanks everyone! My practicals have been delayed due to a snowstorm, but this Wednesday they are on again! Its funny you mention it, but yes, I have CEUs lined up already for this month and am looking into intermediate or paramedic class for 2008... my age still concerns me there so we will see. Thanks again, SARgal
  15. I have to admit, that is hilarious. And who knows, maybe she is a construction worker. She looks to have had some construction work done, anyway. And my apologies for my above post, Wendy. Obviously, what I had to say had nothing to do with the scavenger hunt either. OK, enough hijacking the thread-- ON WITH THE HUNT!! SARgal
  16. How the heck is that video relevant at all to the current scavenger hunt for "construction workers playing jump rope"???? sheesh
  17. Took the test yesterday and passed! Wasn't very difficult at all. Quite basic compared to the testing our instructor put us through. Wooo hoooo!!!!! SARgal
  18. Heh, heh, heh. 31, eh? Age is something I've been thinking over. I'm turning 45 soon and am considering Intermediate, maybe paramedic level. The next available class is Jan 2008, so I have a good 6-7 mos to think it over while working BLS. Congrats again! SARgal
  19. Congratulations! Any thoughts of going on to intermediate or paramedic? SARgal
  20. Good luck, Jeff. --Yeah, the waiting for results stinks. I'll be taking mine in the next 2 weeks or so. I can't wait to get to it. We had our final exams last week and have to wait another week for the practicals, and then the written. . . Can't come soon enough for me!! SARgal
