The old Ambulance Officer level has been renamed Emergency Medical Technician and no sir, I do not like it; I would much prefer we adopted Primary Care Paramedic like in the Canuckistanada although that would require renaming Paramedic to Advanced Care Paramedic which I do not mind.

I never did understand why AV and QAS named the Paramedic level ALS and ACP respectively; confusing!

Politics

Some governmental ass clown made an election promise to have "paramedics" on every truck, only thing was that he only "Paramedic" in vic was MICA = big $$$$, so the silly pratt couldn't find the money and made up some new names

The old ambulance officer became QAP's (qualified ambulance paramedics)

When ALS skill set was was added to QAP's they became ALS Paramedics

MICA stayed MICA

To be fair the ALS bit came with a diploma level education through monash uni

Because they are Queen slanders and Victorians....does it need any more explanation........

Yep... they had the foresight to have a title that reflected their role instead of giving them a "level"... sounds like your guys are playing donkey kong half the time

(Stationary intensive care ambulance and parked intensive care ambulance) Have a good 2013 bushy and my friend south of the border

No mate the grapes are good. Brown Brothers is putting out some great reds this year, but the fortifieds from campbells are better :D

it was MICA because it was initally designed as a mobile IC type setup using Dr's and regular ambo's to do the lifting etc, so it was a MICA unit. MICA Paramedics came later

By the way, MICA = Most Incompetent Crew Available

Of course the acronym for SCAT is better :D

The state of Iowa in it's infinite wisdom (ha) had all sorts of levels from FR (A)(D), etc., EMT A, B, Defib, etc, EMTI (85), EMTP (99I), Paramedic Specialist (PS), blah, blah, blah.

They finally decided to get things changed to be more in line with the National Standards.

Like other states whom are changing, the only levels will be EMR (all the old First Responder levels and endorsements), EMT (with all the other old endorsements), AEMT (new level above the old 85I and below the 99I), and Paramedic.

Iowa's 99I level was considered as an Iowa Paramedic in this state only. The Paramedic Specialist was anyone that completed the Paramedic level, so they had to delineate the levels.

If you are a current 85I, you will have to take further classes and con-ed, then take the NREMT AEMT test. If you opt not to go to this level, then you will drop to the EMT level.

If you are a current 99I, you will have to take other classes and con-ed, then take the NREMT Paramedic test. If you opt not to go to this level, then you will drop to the AEMT level.

In essence, Iowa is only cleaning up the mess of a numerous number of levels and endorsements to the now 4 levels of provider.

Of course, this should have been done years ago, but now there is still a delay and some providers have a couple of years to decide or transition.

I feel your pain, up until about 3 years ago even in a little country like New Zed we had a bunch of different titles and levels

St John: Primary Care Officer, Ambulance Officer, Paramedic, Upskilled Paramedic, Advanced Paramedic

WFA: Paramedic, ALS-A Paramedic, ALS-B Paramedic, Intensive Care Paramedic

TDHB: Ambulance Officer, Intermediate Care Officer, Upskilled ICO, Paramedic

WDHB: BLS Paramedic I, BLS Paramedic II, BLS Paramedic III, ILS Paramedic, ALS Paramedic

Since 2009 a huge amount of work has been undertaken in that now there are three levels - Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic and Intensive Care Paramedic. It helps that TDHB and WDHB no longer exist and have been taken over by St J and WFA respectively
