I like to say ef dee N why, because it doesnt really make a word...

but I have heard some others refer to it as FID KNEE.

makes no sense to me... what is the offical way to say it ?

I dunno, pronounce the single letters in the usual way it`s done in the English language?

Why not just say F D N Y say it slowly F D N Y

don't have to make it hard, it's not rocket science, it's so easy a caveman can do it.

Why do we have to make things so difficult these days.

we have alphabet lists for everything these days.

Just say F D N Y But if you want to be obstinate and say FIDNEE go ahead. Jeesh

but if you need instructions on how to say jeesh then I can't help you there.

If you want to be official, it's the Fire Department of the City of New York and has been since after the revolutionary war. Most of us from the area just call it fidney because it just rolls off the tongue a lot easier.
