One person can, but one person should not, it is poor technique. We use two people here, the second to apply anterior laryngeal pressure and feed the tube over the bougie. And why were they even intubating a cardiac arrest ... wait, wait, wait ... I have to remind myself we are dealing with SoCal EMS here :D

So, do you always use a bougie? I'm not criticizing, but trying to understand. Nealy every patient that I've intubated I've done more or less on my own, calling for cricoid pressure if I thought it would help, but most often it was unnecessary and my partner was busy doing other things.

And I've never used a Bougie, though I started carrying one the last few months I worked the street to remind me to try it, but never did.

Again, in no way is this meant as an 'I'm better than you', statement. I'm just surprised that the differences in technique haven't come up before now.

Oh yes, we absolutely must use a bougie; this applies to both regular intubations (i.e. dead people) and intubations facilitated by medicines (RSI)

Anterior laryngeal pressure is not required but its often used so may as well be

And Dwayne brother, I know you don't think you are better than any of us here so no problems mate, me on the other hand, shit, I'm so awesome it's just not even worth mentioning .... probably because I'd get struck down for pissing off Jesus with such vial and odious lies :D
