ALS FLY CARS

Bump. It looks like BC Ambulance is getting ready to try deploying ALS fly-cars throughout the Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD). Something about reducing ALS response times to the most critical calls. That's all well and fine but ALS or not you can't effectively run a code by yourself. More stop-gap banking on first responder deployment foolishness in this particular case I suspect.

And.....it doesn't work....

we will be moving towards this model because of that fantastically retarded PKI of response times. Theres the belief that by splitting our IC cars into 2 Single Responder will get IC to cases they are needed at quicker (its manadated an ALS car will be dispatched at the same time). In reality it makes very little difference to the response time - lets face it, you cant navigate and drive at the same time, though i'm told the extra pay is quite nice!

What has mad ea difference is getting the FD on board with first response for arrests.

I firmly believe that the whole single responder argument creates a false econonomy, we get to wave a nice shiny statistic around about response times, but have 1 transport capable car on the street, and though an ALS car will be dispatched at the same time, the other reality is its probably on a job already.

Its all about counting beans people, beans counted by has beans that have never been on the street.

I work in Industry and many time's very remote, its extremely difficult doing critical patient intervention by oneself or rely upon the support first aider level(s). Many can't even get a cot out of an ambulance, let alone spike a bag or put on leads or use a Manuel Resuscitator and then that deer in the headlights look when one says (We need to RSI)

I wish there was a study to examine the "efficacy" of this New and Improved Delivery of Health Care. Perhaps called "The ALS FLY bumper car study" or "how to skin a cat with one hand tied behind ones back" ?

Maybe a new ACLS course on how to work an ALS arrest single handed.

That said I can see where in rare situations there is not enough ALS providers but with reasonable BLS response.

Oh crap I dropped the map .... ;>)

cheers
