Facebook Fans Beware

Hello,

First of all to any that may have received the virus from me - I am sorry. It acts in typical virus fashion of grabbing all your contacts and emailing and posting the link to their wall. I tried to delete and things and hopefully you were unaffected.

Second, If you do get this immediately change your password to facebook and run your antivirus.

Third, hopefully it hasn't or won't get into the site because of the connection with facebook. I'm not linked that way through it, but I'm guessing if you change password there you may have to here (any input admin would be really appreciated !)

Fourth, this thing is a disaster as it messes with all your connections, gets into your antivirus hardware and won't allow you to do updates to get rid of it, routes you to weird sites, does all that strange stuff. Mine kept trying to route me to porn sites (yeah yee ha) - definitely not work safe until this thing gets in to the "comp doc"

Finally - it will look like something that's a valid link. Mine when it came looked like it was something on brain injuries and from someone at work which is only reason I opened it. Yeah then about five minutes later he sent me a message saying don't open it - too late.

Watch out for you and your comp !

Hi there,

The Facebook connect feature here will not spread any viruses.

Everyone should have their virus scanner up to date. If you do not have one, you can get this one for free:

http://free.avg.com/us-en/homepage

You should also clean up your registry. This is a good tool. http://www.ccleaner.com/

And... the last free one I recommend to keep Malware at bay is: http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Good luck...

learn to use a computer and stop clicking every link you see.

no, you did not win a free dell laptop!

this is one of the major reasons I block and ignore 99% of the apps on facebook. anyone can make one and spread it over a vast network of idiots who will click it because they got a free cyber beer or something.

anyway, what firefly said is the best course of action. delete the post IMMEDIATELY and change your passwords.

there are plenty of free virus scanners available, such as avg, trendmicro/housecall (scans online, no downloads needed for scan), avast, norton has a free version, kaspersky... those are all the ones I can think of.

you can also use windows defender for a quick scan.

Don't trust anything else unless it's on a TRUSTED webpage such as microsoft.com or downloads.com for example.

also, not a bad idea to run spyware scans.

any questions, feel free to PM me and I will answer as soon as I can

I'm extremely cautious about what I open. The link came and resembled a you tube link (even had the youtube thing in it) and mentioned brain, with the simple message of check this out. It was from a coworker and so I thought it was safe. Worst part about it is - if your system isn't totally updated, it won't allow you to perform updates needed or even access any antivirus material to get rid of it. It sends you to other sites to "protect" itself. I am now having to completely crash my computer and restore it to factory in hopes it will be okay.

Actually, Windows released a full on virus scan (Microsoft Security Essentials) a few months ago that works better than Windows Defender.

As far as Facebook, what do you mean don't click on my links? After all, how else can I grow my mob? Don't you want to know about what new item is on my farm in Farmville? (full disclosure: I ignore every single one of those apps when I see them for the first time.)

As far as Macs vs PCs, the only reason why there are viruses for PCs and not Macs is because people actually use PCs.

Thanks for the update on M$. I will look into that program.

As for my comments about the apps... just be mindful of what you click. :) There are A LOT of spyware and phishing apps out there that are disguised to help your "mob" and stuff like that.
