hello,

I am currently updating my resume. I am wondering what everyone thinks of putting certificates that you earn from con ed courses in the resume is appropriate? I wouldn't put all of them just maybe 3 or 5 a couple from trauma and a few from medical. also any do 's or don't 's or resume suggestions would be appreciated . thank you.

The resume should not be any longer than 1 page maybe on the extreme 2 pages but any longer would be more of CV than a resume.

Honestly, in EMS you should not have more than a page or page and a half of a resume. Even my resume which includes a masters degree, two careers (one in consulting and the other in EMS) is no longer than 2 pages but if I needed to I could cut it down to a page and a half.

If you are just out of college or you are less than 25 years old then 2 pages is OVERKILL.

I would keep a resume brief, as suggested, but make a note that states you will bring a copy of certs to the interview, and then do so.

Make sure you clean up any internet sites that could embarass you first (myspace, facebook, yahoo personals) -- its a good idea to google your name and see what comes up

Especially photos of you drunk doing disgusting things. Unless your applying for porn stars those usually keep you from getting hired.

A resume is different from an application. If you applying to a job, and they ask for ACLS, PALS, etc, by all means put them in,, however on a resume it is appropriate just to list them and say at the bottom of the resume "certifications available upon request"...

As someone else said a resume is supposed to be 1 page,, save it for relevant work Hx. If they want to hire you they will ask for your cards.

You asked if you should mention the Continuing Medical Education class or classes?

I'd refer to the fact that you had taken, and are taking, CME classes, without mentioning what specific topics were covered; save those details for the personal interview, if you feel they would help, or are specifically asked for class content.
