Sheesh! In Michigan we do 650 clinical hours alone...on top of the 14 month course in order to get certified as eligible to take the NREMT-P exams

While that is more than many Paramedic programs, it still is very little to brag about. Many of the "certs" mentioned in the article do more than that in clinicals and the degreed healthcare professions start at no less than 1000 hours.

We do 100 clinical hours in hospital and 450 hours on Ambulance in a two year college program. That's for BLS in Ontario. And the Aussies have got us all beat by a long shot.

. are we going to have to wait for the 70's era medics to die off before we can move ahead as a profession?

Many of those medics from the 1970s , myself included, have at least a two year degree in EMS. At that time EMS was in competition with nursing to see who could get the degree programs established toward becoming a recognized profession. The money was actually on EMS for a while. Then, many of the FDs and ambulance companies decided to train their own in the back room.

but most massage schools will allow you to go in and get a 1 hour massage for 20-25 bucks. I regularly go to a massage therapy school for a 1 hour massage for 25 bucks. Sure it's done by students but hey , for 25 bucks from a student versus 100 or so around here for a good massage from a licensed provider, I'll go with the student anytime.

Plus some of the students are smoking HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
