  1. Yes I believe In God, I'd hate to think we came from Monkeys. But then again I've wondered about some folks.
  2. I don't know about ya'll but this show seems to be about the most inaccurate show ever to depict EMS, right down to the BS unprofessional uniform and unshaven actor........watched it once and that was about 30 mins too much.
  3. We use the disposable fiber optic blades, but someone correct if I'm wrong, but isn't the human mouth about as unsterile as it gets?......yeah I'll take the blade
  4. Rid, great article, covered every aspect and was very informative. What is your take on pre-hospital use of CPAP in CHF and Cardiogenic Pulmonary Edema? We just started using it at my service and have had excellent results, even in the severe cases and have prevented ET use on most all of them.
  5. We used to have them in our Cardiac Areest protocols back in Atlanta in the early 90's thru around 96 after that I haven't seen a set of PASG inflated on a patient.
  6. i think this situation is a little more than a conflict........more like a blatant violation of rules/regs, policy/procedure whatever you want to call it. Most likely the person in the wrong here wouldn't care one way or another if you didn't like his beer in the fridge. My opinion is stop this kind of action now not later.
  7. one must be tough if he's gonna be stupid...........forget talking to the crew, talk to the Chief. If this person has this much disregard for policy and procedure, it's likely he takes his patient care the same way.
  8. Finally, I was beginning to think I was the only one that felt that strongly. AMEN Rescue 1
  9. Last time I checked, Punishment wasn't in my job description as a Paramedic........if they're faking and you know it 100% why not just not react and ride to the ED and complete your paperwork in stead of dropping to that level.
  10. I can respect your opinion on this, however it has been my experience that providing that kind of treatment/deterrant does not really work as far as the frequent fliers quitting the abuse of the system. Most of them know how the system works and they work it no matter what we say or do. I just don't think it is our job to punish them for their lack of education or their plethora of stupidity.
  11. Maybe educating the public in a manner other than TV shows like Rescue 911 would alleviate some the system abuse. But according to you 2 wrongs make a right or did I take that wrong?
  12. 100% Dixie. Is General Lee your grandfather?!
  13. You know, I have never understood why some medics and EMTS believe that it is their job to play judge and jury and mistreat patients because they fake seizures or whatever...ie..14 gauge INTS or Iv's etc.......Last time I looked and yes it has been close to 20 years, but I believe my oath said "do no harm". That kind of treatment borders abuse.
  14. Or how about those who do CPR on pt's not EVEN IN CARDIAC ARREST..... Yet they are absolutely convinced that that easily palpable pulse isn't there...?!?!?!!?? That always makes me CRAZY!!!! ACE Pulled up on scenne once only to find the lone firefighter getting the tar beat out of himself by an 65 yo female while he was doing CPR........funniest stuff I've ever seen....she was screaming get off me in between our hero trying to do compressions and the right hooks she was connecting to his head. As we approached, he told us he was trying CPR but she wouldn't let him...........LMAO
  15. [ For those of you who are in this profession you have a RESPONSIBILITY to EDUCATE yourself further and do all you can to become a better CLINICIAN. This whining about how "Oh, I only had 120 hrs...My class didn't help me learn..." Is a complete cop out, and B$!! Oh, Booie for you, now MAN UP and FIX IT!!!Fact of the matter is, you are in an autonomous field, with ALOT MORE RESPONSIBILITY THAN YOU WERE LED TO BELIEVE IN CLASS!!! Furthermore, your an adult, or at least pretending to be one. So why should the rest of us hold your hand and give you an excuse to blame your lack of motivation, education, intelligence, understanding, or abilities on others. IT'S YOUR ISSUE, YOUR RESPONSIBILITY, SO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!! Are there ways to do this, yes; and are there people here who are willing to help? Absolutely!!! There are many of us here who try to teach, and help you guys be better providers, and clinicians! If you have no interest in any of the things I mentioned. Go work in an industry where your lack of 'motivation' and complacency won't cause harm to someones family members and friends. WHAT WE DO EFFECTS LIVES IN A REAL WAY!!! THERE ARE MORE THAN A FEW INSTANCES WHERE WE MAKE LIFE, AND DEATH DECISIONS AND EFFECT OUTCOMES IN REAL AND OFTEN PERMENANT WAYS FOR SOMEONE WHO OFTEN WE HAVE JUST MET!!! Think about it.... :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!:         8) None of this I'm a FF I'm better...I'm a moron..watch me post nonsense and flame people..... {climbs off his soapbox and relequishes the mic for a short time} OUT HERE, ACE844
  16. I've been doing 48 hour shifts for 16 years in Atlanta, so I've been on both sides of the fence on this one and personally I've folks from both sides Fire and EMS that I wouldn't want treating a dead cat much less a human......So before we all start condemning one certain career, we need to realize that we have come to a point now in the tiers that we must coexist together. I don't have any experience with the volunteer stuff but in the busy metros like Atlanta, everyone gets a lot of experience and for the most part with a few exceptions of course. do their job well and work well together.
  17. it appears in this area that the test itself has become more important than the actual material that is supposed to be taught, I'm not sure whether it's the test questions or how the questions are presented or what, but from what I've heard about them , they can be awfully confusing or tricky. Thus, causing the instructors to teach the test rather than teaching how to be emts and paramedics. I know this probably doesn't answer your question, but it is just my observation and opinion.
  18. NREMT DOES NOT " have" classes or ever has had or plans to have . It is ONLY , let me repeat again ONLY a testing agency. They do not set any curriculum, ONLY test over the national standard curriculum as designed by NHTSA, and the national standards in emergency cardiac care as set by ECC and AHA. Ok i think we're having communication problem. I understand EMS and I iknow NREMT is only a testing organization. What I'm trying to tell you is that where I came from, the instructors were only teaching the students how to pass the test therefore producing sub-standard medics and emts. And I was talking about some agencies being able to do certain things such as RSI or even thrombolytics in the field and cothers not being allowed to do such......thats kinda what I was saying about the same level of care across the country. sorry if I didn't make my self more clear.
  19. I just think that there should be some type of National standard throughout the country and not different from state to state. Therefore, all patients are going to get the same level of care no matter where they live( of course depending on the quality of paramedic). I really was not plugging Homeland Security or saying they should take over, just using them as an example. I'd like to see some uniformity to EMS in the USA. It seems to me, the quality of emts and paramedics coming out of NREMT classes these days are basically taught how to take a test and pass NREMT, and not so much how to do the job. All that I have talked to or been paired with seem to say their Instructors placed much emphasis on how to understand the test and pass it rather than teaching.
  20. AK et al, I stand corrected and made the mistake of assuming something......Nowhere does it say "intermediate". just nremt emt. thank you for the correction and enlightenment. But the state of Florida did tell her that she would have to take theNREMT test again in order to gain Florida certification. (She failed to tell me it wasn't Intermediate)hence ,me looking like an ass....lol
  21. [web:369bfde094]http://www.doh.state.fl.us/mqa/emt-paramedic/emt-lic-requirements.html#Initial[/web:369bfde094] once again try this web site and scroll down to the part about certified in other states under the exam requirements section and you will see the quote i put in the last post.....as far as what level Florida recognizes.....all i know is what the state told my wife and what the web site says.
  22. [Homeland Security... what a joke, they can't even get people tested to check luggage yet... ] That was only an idea or suggestion, you must be one the almighty NREMT's in order to respond like that.....It was a mere hypothetical department..........not that I think Homeland is the answer.
  23. Maybe you should check on that again WWW.doh.state.fl.us/mqa/EMT-Paramedic EMT candidates who are currently certified in good standing by another U.S. state or territory or by NREMT will take the NREMT written assessment exam
  24. In a nutshell.........National registry is a JOKE. I have a problem with a private organization that has attempted to sell everyone that being NR means you can go anywhere and work. The test questions and concepts are ridiculous. My wife is an EMT-I (NR) and attempted to gain reciprocity in Florida, well Fla. requires her to re take NREMT I no matter that she already is one. My personal belief is that there does need to be a national standard of care and training, but it should not be by a private/for profit organization. Maybe, place EMS under Homeland Security and have a national training curiculum and Standard of care so that all states can provide the level of care.( i.e. The service I work for does Retavase and RSI, even in Atlanta where I came from doesn't do that.
