  1. jw-c152, Thank you for educating me........I know I need it. Where do you get your information from? And out of curiosity where do you work?
  2. However, if they were originally standing but becam inverted during the fall and landed on their head then you could say that their head fell 16'2'', their shoulders fell 15', their chest fell 13.5', their hips fell 12', and their feet fell 10'.
  3. You forgot to mention the enjoyment factor though Dust. You have to decide how much enjoying your job, over being properly compensated, is worth to you. If you are willing to get more training, more options and more income will become available to you.
  4. Well thank you all for the helpful and not so helpful advice The guy served me today and it turns out it is about the kid that stole my car last October. I still have his mix tape and the car is for sale now. Should I drop the charges if he agrees to buy the car? Any one interested in a dodge spirit? Its green, and it has a luggage rack on the back. Chicks dig it. LMAO
  5. Thanks Brat. From what I understand of the CUPE thing, is that McGuinty is passing a bill that will entitle police, fire and ambulance to early retirement. Since some ambulance is part of CUPE (? I'm assuming) the rest of CUPE wants this privilege too. Because loading garbage is comparable in physical and mental strain I guess
  6. I don't know what to say except that that is terrible. I hope they are adequatly compensated and looked after, but if history provides any indication of what lies in store for them, they will have an uphill battle getting the care and help they are entitled to. Scary stuff.
  7. Then it's a pretty good bet he wasn't faking at least. Code brown alert!
  8. I forgot to say: Or what Rid said. The post ictal stage is caused by insufficient neurotransmitters. The seizure just used them all up, so while the brain is 'resetting' it is actually replenishing its neurotransmitters. Clear as mud? lol
  9. Was the pt still seizing while he was not breathing? Perhaps in the tonic stage of seizure? If so that is perfectly normal. Since the brain is sending out random unorganized signals, the respiratory muscles do not function properly. A seizure is basically fibrillation of the brain. Are you sure pt had no seizure Hx? I have never seen anticonvulsive drugs prescribed for hypoglycemic seizures. I think the goal in that case is to control the blood glucose more effectively.
  10. Eleven people were hanging on a rope under a helicopter, ten men and one woman. The rope was not strong enough to carry them all, so they decided that one had to leave, because otherwise they were all going to fall. They weren't able to name that person, until the woman gave a very touching speech. She said that she would voluntarily let go of the rope, because, as a woman, she was used to giving up everything for her husband and kids, or for men in general, and was used to always making sacrifices, with little in return. As soon as she finished her speech, all the men started clapping their hands……
  11. Help! I just got a message that I am being subpoenaed as a witness. That is all I know so far as to the nature of the case. I need advice, and to learn form someone elses experiences. Have any of you been to court for a call? What was it like? did they drill you? Try to discredit you? I have never been in this situation and I am not looking forward to it.
  12. I am OPSEU. Do I have to support this? lol Any body heard of whats up with CUPE striking? SooC, I am working but I was going to take a course in March. I am really putting my ignorance on display here, but I thought that each college was an independent employer and as such can dictate class sizes as they see fit. High school teachers are different because they all work for the municipal board of eduction.
  13. That may be so. However there is always a degree of sencerity in sarcasm. I stand by what I said.
  14. Damn! I just realized that this strike will affect me. I haven't been paying attention to local news at all lately, so I don't even know what this whole thing is about. Any body have any guesstimates on length? Is it all Ontario colleges?
  15. Please excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is harmful in a meth lab? Other than the high risk of explosion? What would a decontamination procedure consist of?
  16. Asys, Could you suggest a certain brand and shade of eyeliner that would be best for this? L
  17. Never in my life did I think I would hear myself say this (or type this), but it sounds like Texas has a good system going. I had four preceptor crews in total and they were all like what you describe, and worse, except the last ones. My hospital clinicals were generally much better but I got lucky. Also we spend a full day in most hospital departments and are partnered up with one particular RN/anesthesiologist/ALS paramedic etc.. As far as teacher/preceptor accountability there is none. And let me tell you, this is a HUGE problem. Paramedics here eat their young. It seems to be some kind of right of passage. Personally I would much prefer a barmitzva (sp?) or something. Any hoo I hope you learn from the mistakes of others when it is your turn to be the teacher, instead of propagating the cycle. Keep your chin up.
  18. Okay..... Or you can handle your problems in an honest and mature manner, without degrading anyone (including yourself) in the process.
  19. I liked it. Asys, I found your Risperidone, have you been non compliant again?
  20. On a bit of a tangent, I read something recently that I found very interesting and I don't know if it is common knowledge. There is a theory that sickle cell anemia is more prevalent in tropical places because a certain form of the disease provides some Resistance to malaria. Sickle cell disease
  21. Being on float shift sucks. Being new on float shift sucks even worse. I have been in this situation more than once, first with my preceptor, than with a couple different partners-for-the-day. Heed my advice for it can only help you. First you have to know that you are far from powerless. Above quote is only partially true. You can't be with "friends" always, but what this woman is creating is called a "poisonous work environment" (or some other HR jargon applicable to your organization). Plan for worst case scenario. Find out about your companies harassment policies, and get them in hand. Then you can approach this coworker (if you want, the ball is in your court) and notify her that her "behaviour is unacceptable" (say exactly that). And tell her what is acceptable i.e: make your pick-ups, do her share of the work, speak to you in a professional manner. Don't argue, and it doesn't matter what her reasons are. You don't need to ask her what is wrong, or if you can do something to help, etc. because she has made it abundantly clear already that she will not change out of the goodness of her heart. If you are feeling particularly vindictive you have the option, as Dust said, to skip this step all together and head straight for management. Again, document all your exchanges with this person, for your own memory, (it is best to be accurate when recounting events) and if you need to make any official documentation in the future it will be consistent. When you go to management have your harassment policies in hand (if your organization is anything like mine management likes to make things up as they go along). Do not let any one tell you "to get a thicker skin", "that this is how its done in EMS", "other bullshit"....Put it in perspective.. Would this behaviour be tolerated if you were working in a bank, for example? If you have any problems with the individual or management while you are talking to them, inform them of your recourse. Don't threaten, just tell them what you plan to do if they do not conform to your wishes. This is hard won experience, so I hope you take my advice. Mind you I'm the kind that wouldn't listen to anyone... so do with it as you wish, but let us know what happens.
  22. It is actually kind of sad that there is truth to this. I would like to think that everyone gets the same kind of treatment regardless of their socio-economic status, shower status, family status, etc... Unfortunately this is clearly not the case if you have spent any time in the medical field. Medicine is not exempt from the prejudices of the rest of society. Instructions to optimize your medical care...Be nice, be clean, have relatives present (preferably doctors/lawyers etc), have money and everything that goes along with this: good dental health and hygiene, nice clothes, and be well spoken. With these few measures in place you can expect to receive respectful, prompt, and accurate medical care.
  23. Well you attention seeking moron....lol....what can I say to this (other than tracking you down and castrating you because we all know that testosterone causes a hell of a lot more problems than estrogen) except where is your data? Did you all read that Fox news article Phireman posted above? Are people in south Dakota really that stupid and ignorant? I guess so. Freekin scary stuff! I guess they weren't joking when they said congress is the opposite of progress.
