  1. Sent out an email, is that what you were looking for?

Got it and just read it. That's perfect. I know for a fact some of the kids will be asking "what's that?" and I sure wont be telling them. hehe. Actually there's one picture that I was looking at and going "Ok what's that? The trucks I was in didn't have that." It looks like a harness hanging from the roof.

  2. BTW: About what age group are we talking? elementary school i guess?

Here in the US we have a level before elementary school called prekindergarden for 4 year olds that turn 5 before like August 4th.. I think that was the cut off. So all my kids are between the ages of 4 and 5.

  3. I am a nurse. While involved in transport and teaching, my role is not strictly EMS.

    Take care,

    chbare.

That's still healthcare. :) If you want to join in just send me your email and where you're from and I'll add you to the contact list.

  4. Ok the time line as it stands right now. Through today we are on spring break so I am missing alot of kids.

Monday- decorate envolopes and kids make their first letter. This first letter will be a hello letter/picture. I will try to scan them in that day but most likely they wont be until Tuesday.

The actually offical start of Community Helpers weeks is the first 2 weeks of May. Judging from the responces I have gotten I'm willing to start now.

The "hello" letters that the kids will be making will be sent to everyone as a big kick off.

From that if everyone could reply with a basic hello and where you are from and maybe a picture of you. I will have the kids pick who they want to write to first and go from there.

Though for us the thermic unit is only 2 weeks I'll have this cover the whole month of May since the kids and you guys have been so welcoming of it.

Sadly due to child protection laws I can not send actually pictures of the children and can not do cam-to-cam messenging. I can on the other hand have the kids draw pictures of themselves. I bring this up because a few of you have asked about it.

Don't be scared to ask anyone you work with if they want to add to your replies! The more the marrier I say!

(Please pardon all typos. I'm using the school computer and I'm not allowed to download the spell checker lol)

  5. I have your email you sent via the yahoo email

Do you want pictures and the like or just a description of what we do.

Maybe if you partnered a specific child up per person who volunteered that would be even better. That child could send a letter to who they are paired to.

I would be happy to send a letter to more than one kiddo if you have extra kids.

That is actually what I am trying to do. This way you wont get a mass of letters from all the kids but just one at a time. I'm not sure if the teacher that's next door wants to join in on this so I don't know if I"ll have 16 kids or 36. ( Ya I know it would be nice if she would answer me.) Monday they will be decorating their envolopes and I should have penny stamps by then. ( My bosses wanted this to be done by snail mail. My reply to that was: "Ya right. Welcome to this century emails." So we're compromising and they kids are going to "mail" their letters and I'm going to scan them and email them.)

Pictures would be great. Both of your gear and trucks as well as you if you're allowed to. I know my father who is a prison gaurd isn't allowed to show us what he looks like in uniform. Part of this project to me is showing the kids that EMS can be found anywhere and how it's alike or different. They know what EMS wears here. The posters are all over the walls and I've shown them. So it would be cool to them to see how the uniforms are different.

  6. I would be more than happy to help. I am not a real EMT however. If this is specific to EMT's, I understand.

    Take care,

    chbare.

What level are you? This project is for anyone in any level or field in healthcare.

    Check your email :)

For some reason I do not have an email from you.. I'll check in a few more minutes to see if yahoo is just being slow.

Never mind found it. It seemed you sent it to my mail email not the project email lol. Sekhet3 is my personally account I used it for the first email just to have somthing to put into the "send to" line but please any emails for the kids send to gypsyems@ymail. :)

  7. Do we just await an e-mail from you and the kids asking questions or do you want a statement prepared for the kids explaining our roles, what our services are like, photos of trucks and equipment etc?

You may send anything you are confertable with showing or what your local proticals will allow. An explanation of what you do would be great for them. If you want to start sending they wont mind a bit! Trust me. lol. That's part of why I opened the email now instead of waiting.

  8. Most of you should have gotten an email this morning from a ymail.com adress. That is me don't worry. For those that aren't sure if you got it or thinks it could have gotten put into your junk filter the adress is gypsyems@ymail.com. This account will be active until the end of May. On May 31st I will no longer be checking it and deleting all contacts. At very least that is the current plan.

  9. I'd be happy to do that. K-5 teaching assistant was one of my previous jobs.

PM for email and bio stuff.

I just tried to PM you it seems your inbox is full so it wont let me. :(

  10. Wow this is being welcomed beyond what I expected! This is wonderful guys! When you give me your information could you please also say where you are and what level you are? When I introduce you guys to the kids I'll be sharing that with them. They do understand that their are different levels. This is great I can't wait til we get started!

  11. Greetings! I'm not sure if this is the right section, but it looked the best. I won't be offended should it be moved.

As some of you know, I currently work in early childcare/VPK as a teacher's assistant. The first two weeks of May are our communities helpers weeks. Don't worry I'm not asking anyone to come into the nut house that is called a classroom to talk. I bribed a friend of mine to do that already hehe.

I would like to know if anyone would be willing to receive a letter/drawing from a child (preferably by email) and write back talking about what you do. Don't worry I won't share your email with anyone and after the two weeks I won't send you anything from the kids. We would like the kids to learn about all levels of EMS. Florida doesn't have EMT-I so I am looking online for contacts.

Please let me know if you would like to be part of this project.

    Sincerely,

    Beth

  12. My EMT instructor was going over questions for the upcoming test the other day and he gave us this one:

    1) Which of the following statements about hyperventilation is false?

    a. Hyperventilation is almost always due to psychogenic stress.

    b. Hyperventilation frequently causes numbness and or tingling and spasms in the hands and fingers.

    c. Hyperventilation may be a sign of head injury or diabetic problem or overdose.

    d. Psychogenic hyperventilation rarely causes cyanosis.

He claimed that he thought the correct answer was C but after going over my notes it seems like the answer should be A. Could I get your opinion on this? Which answer do you think is right?

I'm with you on this. It sounds like it should be A as well from what my brain can pull up. I"ll look when I get home and double check.

  13. Hello all I'm Beth. I just passed the NREMT exam last Saturday here in Florida and waiting, with baited breath, for the letter they mailed out to get to me. I really don't know what to say here. So if you have any questions just ask.
