  1. So you answered some questions but the one i want to know is would it change the hand placement/depth of compressions? So this condition would change the placement of the pads? and thanks for the help
  2. So the other day my sister had a friend over and he spilled hot soup on his shirt when he changed shirts I saw something that was odd. He was born with what he said is a sunk in chest I have never seen this before and it got me thinking; How would you do CPR on someone like him? Would you go as deep with compressions? would hand placement be the same? Would every thing be the same? Has any one ever had this issue or a similar one? Sorry if these are dumb questions but they don't ever teach about this kind of things in CPR.
  3. So for give me but this might be a dumb question. Why dose knowing what they look like on paper help? I though for respirations you want to know the difference in sound and pattern?
  4. So are you all saying that if as EMT-B's and MEDIC's if we had better schooling and training/practice in more skills that it would make patient care allot better? For example the nabiorgh girl across the street she knows CPR but has never used it and a bout a month ago she came to me because she almost had to use those skills and she was scared that she didn't have enough practice with it and was scared that she wouldn't know/rember what to do. But if she had more practice she would be able to do it better? That would make scene. And this would apply to many things for both EMT's and MEDIC's.
  5. wish granted but you will never get a promotion I wish I could find a job as an EMT!
  6. So if I under sand this right your saying that it is ok that we cant intubate because if medics do it and miss it dose more harm? If this is the case are you saying you would just put in an OPA or an NPA and it will do just as good? If it is a skill issue then wouldn't more piratic help?
  7. I wish I had a bologna sandwich wish granted but now my cat cant eat for a week I wish could look at a book and know everything in it in a few mins
  8. Hello and good job on passing all your tests! and how is FL? I used to live in FL and I miss it.
  9. Ok at my job people have started getting upset about this and i wanted to know what others think. In the county I work in there about to take away pediatric intubation. I think it sounds very dumb so what do you all think? and why would you think this is ok?
  10. Are they trying to get rid of Paramedics? To save money? It sounds that way to me
  11. I always wear my seat belt. The reason i wrote this was because 3 weeks ago i lost a friend in a car crash he was not wearing a seat belt. And then in high school some of my freinds were coming home from a foot ball game and all but one had a seat belt on and he was safer with out it because his side was completely demolished. But then it makes me think if your're all saying that it is rare that people are safe with out on on how rare is it?
  12. Ok i have a question? On seat belts, in any one's experince have you seen better out come of survival with a seat belt on or off? For example, in a roll over accident the pt was not wearing his seat belt and he didn't make it. But in another accident the pt was not wearing a seat belt and that saved her because in the crash she was thrown in the back seat and the dash folded down around the front seat had she been in the seat she would have been crushed from the waist down.
  13. Ecnalubma08 I would love it if you could teach me some more of this stuff and brake it down for me.
  14. rocky_shoes I belive there are no drugs involved but would that make a difference? If so then what is the difference? How do you maintenan the rates with NS,D5W,Ringer's ect?
  15. oops sorry mobey.... and is this stuff not normal for EMT's to learn drip rates? but are there any more suggestions? On how to do this stuff?
  16. Ok sothis might be a dumb question or have has been asked befor but here gose any way. In my EMT class they taught us how to calculate drip rates but I am still kind of bad at them any one have any suggestions? And I have a question? dose drug calculations differ then drip rates? And I am trying to get into an LVN program would this be covered agin or better? I know the drip rate formula is DxR/T (Dos times Rate divied by Time) Thanks for any input and help on this and sorry if I am a little over my head.
  17. This was given to me from a freind just wanted to share i thought it was cool! In Phoenix , Arizona , a 26-year-old mother stared down at her 6 year old son, who was dying of terminal leukemia. Although her heart was filled with sadness, she also had a strong feeling of determination. Like any parent, she wanted her son to grow up & fulfill all his dreams. Now that was no longer possible.. The leukemia would see to that. But she still wanted her son's dream to come true. She took her son' s hand and asked, 'Billy, did you ever think about what you wanted to be once you grew up? Did you ever dream and wish what you would do with your life?' Mommy, 'I always wanted to be a fireman when I grew up.' Mom smiled back and said, 'Let's see if we can make your wish come true.' Later that day she went to her local fire department in Phoenix , Arizona , where she met Fireman Bob, who had a heart as big as Phoenix She explained her son's final wish and Asked if it might be possible to give her 6 year-old son a ride around the block on a fire engine Fireman Bob said, 'Look, we can do better than that. If you'll have your son ready at seven o'clock Wednesday morning, we'll make him an honorary Fireman for the whole day. He can come down to the fire station, eat with us, go out on all the fire calls, the whole nine yards! And if you'll give us his sizes, we'll get a real fire uniform for him, with a real fire hat - not a toy -- one-with the emblem of the Phoenix Fire Department on it, a yellow slicker like we wear and rubber boots.' 'They're all manufactured right here in Phoenix , so we can get them fast.' Three days later Fireman Bob picked up Billy, dressed him in his uniform and escorted him from his hospital bed to the waiting hook and ladder truck. Billy got to sit on the back of the truck and help steer it back to the fire station. He was in heaven. There were three fire calls in Phoenix that day and Billy got to go out on all three calls. He rode in the different fire engines, the Paramedic's' van, and even the fire chief's car. He was also videotaped for the local news program. Having his dream come true, with all the love and attention that was lavished upon him, so deeply touched Billy, that he lived three months longer than any doctor thought possible. One night all of his vital signs began to drop dramatically and the head nurse, who believed in the hospice concept - that no one should die alone, began to call the family members to the hospital. Then she remembered the day Billy had spent as a Fireman, so she called the Fire Chief and asked if it would be possible to send a fireman in uniform to the hospital to be with Billy as he made his transition. The chief replied, 'We can do better than that. We'll be there in five minutes.. Will you please do me a favor? When you hear the sirens screaming and see the lights flashing, will you announce over the PA system that there is not a fire?' 'It's the department coming to see one of its finest members one more time. And will you open the window to his room?' About five minutes later a hook and ladder truck arrived at the hospital and extended its ladder up to Billy's third floor open window-------- 16 fire-fighters climbed up the ladder into Billy's room With his mother's permission, they hugged him and held him and told him how much they LOVED him. With His dying breath, Billy looked up at the fire chief and said, 'Chief, am I really a fireman now?' 'Billy, you are, and The Head Chief, Jesus, is holding your hand,' the chief said With those words, Billy smiled and said, 'I know, He's Been holding my hand all day, and The angels have been Singing..' He closed his eyes one last time.
