I think you need to reread the JAMA article. It no where in it states that CPR does not work and we should stop using it! The article was about working Arrests on scene and calling them on scene, if no ROSC. Also not running L&S for a code or transporting a code that is not save-able! Both these points have been advocated on this forum for a long time. But, no where is there any mention of CPR not working or the need to stop doing it! I am sure that 3-20% of survivors appreciated the effort. You have still shown no proof of your points!

Would you want your family doctor preforming heart surgery on your son? I for one, would want my son to have a person that is trained to preform the procedure, doing it. You could sit here all day and go back and forth on this issue. Timmy stated it right, When you became a medic you knew what was expected of you. If you want to do more for a pt, then go to med school and learn how! If you do something minor, that may be a little outside your SOP, then as long as you can back up your decision, go for it!

I am here to help, but I will not put my family at risk for "Stupidity". If you have something off the wall, call MC. If they say no, then that is that. We carried them at my last service. They are very nice to have for difficult airways. As Philly mentioned, The one we carried had a bend at the end. You curve it and insert it. Then you feel for the bumping against the cartilage rings. Once you are in, you slide the tube over it and pull the Bougie out. They are cheap enough, that they should be carried on every ALS truck.
