  1. Woohooo!!!!! I just passed my Oral B station and now PA has a new medic. Thank god I only have to go into Philly to eat now.
  2. Are you taking this at StarTech at 10:30 in NE Phily? If so I'll be there taking my Oral B station.
  3. You just described our system exactly!!! After 5 years in the ER as well I've never seen a Doc look at a run slip. History changes anyway. People just tell the docs more. A good rule of thumb...If the patient needs a line based on our assessment they get a bed if not they get a chair in the waiting room with a nice 3-6 hour wait which isn't all that bad around here.
  4. Offer them a Ginger Altoid. I have on me all the time in the rig.
  5. You called this person a doctor....Was it an attending or a resident? There is a big difference. First no ER should give Romazicon for 5mg IM. An uncontrolled seizure should buy a tube anyway to get them through CT. If it's negative ween off the tube. If it's a resident you have a problem with ask him if he plans on being an ER MD. Either way next time you see the doc hand him copy of your protocals and tell him to study.
  6. Actually if you look really close the other people should be able to sue that ladies boyfriend/husband. The reason those other people were on the ground after her was because he (the guy with the hoodie) was pushing people to the ground to keep her from getting stepped on. Depending on where this, ALS have the ability to clear C-spine unlike most BLS. She would get vitals, quick SAMPLE, and a chair in the waiting room and also notice that you don't see a crew member doing the heavy lifting but it's the ladies man doing it. There was no concern.
  7. So I failed the NREMT-P Oral B station the first time and I have to retake it again on Dec 13th. Has anybody here been an evaluator for this station that might be able to give me some advice on the retest. I had a hard time visualizing a patient in this environment and I'm terrified I'll miss a mandatory action on this next retest. Thanks.
  8. Is there an easy way that you have found to learn a new area quickly so you don't have to rely on the map book or master board at the station?
  9. Stupid Chest Pain, V Tac, Gave drug before Shock Blah Blah Knew better...but rushed treatment ... now kicking myself....Tried to be vague....15 is so much time but I forgot it's not EMT-B I don't have to get my own vitals....I just needed to SOAP and report. It was dumb.....Oral A was a breeze when I realized this.
  10. One station (Oral is all that stands between me and being a medic since I have already pass the written. So close I can feel it but now I have a job interview on Tues and I have to tell my future employer that I have 33 day until my next retest. Time for a beer
  11. And the results are in!!! Examination Scored Congratulations on passing the NREMT cognitive examination. Your passing result on the cognitive examination will remain valid for a one year period from the date of the examination, 11/2/2007(provided you meet all current requirements for National EMS Certification. Please allow 2 weeks for the NREMT to mail out results letters. Just need to take the practicals on Friday!!!
  12. Lets not forget that there are 2 main types of MRSA. Community acquired and hospital acquired. The nasal swabs was checking for community MRSA which can be treated with easily with Bactrum. Hospital based MRSA is the bad one that you also find in nursing homes. The public isn't being told the truth by the media as usual. It's hyped up and they can scrub those showers all they want but it's only gonna take one kid with MRSA pimples to wrestle some dude and spread it again. It really isn't as bad because I've had it. The only way I knew it because I got some pimples where I never got them before. One quick round of antibiotics and they were gone. Let's face it the public are sheep being led by the media giving half the facts to sell their story.
  13. Well I gotta tell ya...I got "The Complete Preparation Guide Paramedic Exam" by Learning Express.....I'm going to burn my copy....I never felt so under prepared for a test in my life. There were 4 exams in the book and I took test 3 the day before the test. I got so many wrong I was ready to reschedule my exam. The problem with the study guides that I have seen is no matter how new they are they still have outdated info and it throws your mind for a loop when you get to a question when something is written wrong. Then the next few questions your still p*ssed about it. I did get a Paramedic Review CD for International Flight Nurses that was helpful. It felt the most like the real test without rhythm strips. It had a lot of software errors on it though. I really felt that just re-reading the textbooks and fast skimming all the charts in the book would have been enough. As far as the test itself without giving out any questions. I saw 2 rhythm strips, 1 OB question, about 10 peds, lots and lots of trauma, MCI, and then just a lot of random questions. The first question I felt I got wrong so I was a little concerned but the questions other then a few were nothing that I didn't feel as though I really didn't know or I SHOULD have known if I would have studied a little more. I still don't have results yet but I feel pretty good about the test and what I learned in school. Just wish I had results though.
  14. Ummm I know there is a great discussion going on about Firefighters, Professionalism, and so on but no one except the person who started the debate in the first place has put up any ideas. As a soon to be newbie I wanna know what to expect.
  15. So I just got back from the test....I feel I knew almost everything except operations. Made me feel kinda dumb since we all may respond to an MCI in our career. The test stopped at 80 questions and only 35 minutes into the test. Hope for the best because next week I take my skills and get my CBT results. It's going to be so nice at 34 to finally have an education that the outcome is considered a career and not just a job.
