  1. Here's a part of the study that they left out: 70% of the patients in arrest were males.........29% were females........1% were shems..... Now, if you were break down the actual percentage of patients that received adequate CPR from the females, it would show that the 29% females had better outcomes than the 70% of males. Bottom line: Survival of the fittest..... we're just being biased!! AKA don't piss off your other half. 8)
  2. Just the fact that this call was questioned in regards to ALS or BLS intervention makes me error on the side of the Pt and would therefore ALS it. Gosh darn it!! My crystal ball isn't working lately, so I cannot foresee the extent of the internal damage. Obviously, depending on the type of call that is presented, depends on if it can be triaged ALS to BLS. Seriously though, I'd hate to live in a local where union rules, laziness, ill-educated personnel, etc would sway the care of a patient..... OH WAIT, I am living there!! Does anyone else see this as a problem lately? I know, stupid question. :?
  3. WOW...holy crap..... OK, so here's my two cents: WOMEN, GIRLS, CHICKS, FEMALES......get over it! If you are pointed out as being incapable or inadequate at your job, its probably because YOU ARE!!!!!!! Don't go blaming it on other people, like my new, green female partner does. She has an excuse for EVERYTHING! She thinks everyone is out to get her because she's a female, and its not. It's because she's not right for the job. It has nothing to do with her having a vagina!!!!!!! It has to do with her being an idiot. Jesus, to use the excuse of sexism for not getting the job done is just plain ridiculous. So with that out of the way, I feel that sometimes people are just plain ignorant. These ignorant people are not just against the feminine field workers, but probably towards ALL persons who aren't like them. They're cynical and ignorant, or perhaps just naive. You cannot blame an elderly person for the way they were brought up. If they look at the older member on the crew, the male on the crew, its because of their upbringing; they don't know any better. You can change this by politely acknowledging their 'mistake' and correcting them in a fashion that isn't offensive or embarrassing. If you don't you're just another part of the problem. Now yes, I have come across people who are just plain sexist. But ask yourself this.... how did they become this way? Wasn't it from the lessons/ role models of their past? It isn't genetic, it's cultural. Be a role model yourself and attempt to teach them what they did isn't right. If they don't want to learn, then they're obviously not worth your time, so why get all huffy about it? Unless your life is ultimately jeopardized by their actions and even with the attempt(s) to change it, is it worth getting bent out of shape? The bottom line is this.........at the end of the day, when the job is done, did you do your best? 8) I am a paramedic. I am NOT a blonde, sexy, tall, female, white, Christian medic...... I am just a medic.
  4. leave it....not OSHA compliant. Leave a pair of hand trained love birds behind.....
  5. **** "Anyone who trades Liberty for Security deserves NEITHER Liberty nor Security." **** Ben Franklin~
  6. Will take both Obama's head as well as Bidens....oh wait, if they're worth something, I'll have to 'spread the wealth'!! Leave behind platter!!!!
  7. Take em....I'll put them under the bed at the station to stink out night shift since they left the station and truck a mess.....leave my soul..... perhaps one of you will want it since even the Devil refused to take it!
  8. "Guests in your home are like fish; after three days they start to stink." ....or something like that..... 8) Ben Franklin
  9. http://washingtontimes.com/news/2008/oct/1...mobile-clinics/ Hope this link works.... Basically, as a group of health care providers, how are we going to cope with this mess our country is in? Eventually our EMS system is going to really circle the drain, if it hasn't already, due to this horrible spiraling out of control event.... How can we as providers help our country out? thoughts?????
  10. >>> walks over to Ventmedic with a big smile on my face, GENTLY reaches out and starts to massage Vents ears, all the while stating, "Vent, repeat after me.......GOOOOOOOSAAA-VAA-BAAAAAAA...."<<< Seriously, Vent, I understand your defending the NH/SNF personnel due to the fact that you have the rare privilege of actually working with them. Your points are justified. Only problem is that w/o people being able to comprehend how it is exactly on that side of the fence, they will still defend what they know. NOW, that being said, if people do not respect each others opinions and points of view, then you're pleading pure ignorance which in this field is LITERALLY A DEADLY GAME TO PLAY!!! Step back people and see it from each others side's w/o getting all bent. Respect and learn from each other. Thats what this site is all about. My only thing I want to question is...... Ventmedic?????? DO RN's honestly take care of 30-50 patients in a shift or on their own? That just sounds very dangerous, for both the patients as well as the RNs and CNA....and vent peoples... 8)
  11. leave it...there's something about an adult man that has donned a tinkerbell costume that, quite frankly, scares the crap out of me!! Leaves bag of candy corn with box o wine cause I'm a classy broad like that.....
  12. As I sit here and attempt to read these posts at work, I am literally nodding off in my chair. :sleepy1: My job has weekly rotating stations. Depending on which station your at depends on if you can 'squeeze' in a nap. A new policy was put in effect to 'punish' the employees by not allowing us to rest anymore. Basically, they're endangering our lives by this ridiculous new rule they put in effect. This new rule has NOTHING to do with sleeping; it has to do with the employees making up a list to assist the admin by coming up with ideas, questions, comments, concerns we all have and yet never get answers for. I figured writing down all the aforementioned would be a helpful, positive thing.....silly me. This is ONE example of the place I work for.....1 step forward, 12 steps BACK!!!!
  13. Leave the ticket cause I have no reason to go anywhere but home 8) ....if only i had some red ruby slippers I could click together 3 times..... I will leave my Down feathered, Silk covered Bombay linen bed with a pillow mattress and 4 fluffy pillows behind because if I cannot use it, someone should!!!!! I miss my bed!!!!!!!
  14. Nope, not Canadian..... he was a co-worker of mine down here in Pennsylvania. As if this wasn't enough, a Plymouth Meeting K-9 was killed in the line of duty and is having a memorial this Wednesday. The German Shepherd, Andy, was a loyal officer who served the department and his handler, Lou with nothing but the best a pup like him could give. He unfortunately was shot and killed while chasing down 3 bank robbery suspects fleeing the scene. He did his duty and paid the ultimate price. I work Lou's wife, Tara as an EMT here at Plymouth and would ask for anyone to please say a prayer for them as they go through this hard loss in their family. In regards to this thread, I didn't swear off of anything or have a life changing experience from it, but just wanted to ask for all to spare a kind thought for Plymouth Pd, especially Lou. Thank you.
  15. ***********Some people are like Slinkies......They really don't have a purpose in life, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.**********
  16. Thank you all for your kind words. In an odd way, we're fortunate to see people at their worst, help them in the short period of knowing them, and hopefully learn something from their injury/illness. God bless you all.... 8)
  17. This thread is in memory of Michael Garvin aka "BOZ".....39yrs old, died of a cardiac event just after finishing a 12hr shift where I work. He was a very energetic, happy young man who didn't smoke, didn't really drink, exercised and coached his 9yr old sons sports games. His career as a Paramedic was above and beyond. He will be loved and missed by all who had been blessed to know him. That being said, have any of you ever had an experience in EMS where it opened your eyes and/or changed your lifestyle? For me.....I was sick with bronchitis and had laid off the cigarettes for the next few days. Then I got the news that Mike had passed away. Since hearing of his death, I have opened my eyes to the thought of how fragile life really is....how things can honestly change at the drop of a hat, and how I can better myself as well as others I love. I think of Mike and know will never smoke again.
  18. Leave the mouse.........got one.......Bottle of Champagne!!
  19. I think just about every situation of unfortunate EMS providers that have either choked on a call or lost their brains at some point in time in theirs lives have all worked for my company. I SWEAR!!!   There have been a lot of providers over the years that have dropped the ball BIG time on a call....... some of them I don't think can spell the word 'B-A-L-L'. I always tend to try to give these people a fair shot; try not to judge them until they have proven themselves to be incompetent. Sometimes it's a brain fart situation, sometimes its a brainless situation. Lord knows I had made my fair share of mistakes..... Nothing detrimental to a patients or crews well being tho.... That being said..... Once upon a time, I had a 13yr old burn victim: kids were playing fireman with gasoline...you can fill in the rest. While attempting to put an IV in this Pt, I instructed the EMT partner of mine to examine the legs for the amount of burns and to give an approx "rule of nines" count. This EMT excitedly started to cut the melted shorts the kid was wearing off his legs.... got too impatient and grabbed the cut pieces and pulled hard at the rest of the shorts all the way up his legs............. The skin had torn off with the pants. I didn't know the EMT had done this until the poor boy screamed the most gut wrenching scream I had heard in a long time. My back was to him due to positioning myself to start the IV, therefore I had no idea of the idiotic move this EMT was doing behind my back. I felt responsible for the anguish this child just endured at the hands of my 'partner'. Thank GOD a second ALS float unit has shown up to assist us and they were able to promptly remove my 'partner' from my truck and assist me to the LZ. This EMT no longer works at my organization. Its just a shame it took causing harm to a patient to have him removed.
  20. Hopefully you can call your local state EMS agency and they can fill you in on more information. PEMA is what activates Pennsylvania's strike/surge teams, so perhaps you can look into something equivalent in your state. What state are you BTW?? Also, thank you for having a heart and caring. The people I work with who are headed down that way had to find their own coverage at their jobs prior to going so that the locals wouldn't stripped bare.
  21. Yesterday (Friday 29th) they activated the 'SURGE teams' in my Pennsylvania region to go and station in Louisiana. There are many good EMT's and Paramedics that I work with that are going down there to help people they don't know.....all out of the dedication to providing care to those in need. God bless and watch over our brothers and sisters who are putting themselves in a place of potential disaster and bring them home safely..... and say a prayer for all those who will lose part of their lives to this event. Here's one for irony: Having a person complain about 'bad apples' in N.O. when that person themself has shown their own qualities to be that of a 'bad apple' on this thread. If you're going to point out the negative things about the people, take a look in the mirror. No one is perfect, and Lord knows in our career that this is unfortunately all too true. Just keep in mind the people who are good and do depend on us to help them. I am sure there's good qualities in you, too. Let them show.
  22. So.... the truck was found and returned to the squad. Yep, they left it running, as we all do, in the loading/unloading dock of the ER. Needless to say, we now all have to shut off our trucks and lock them up.  One thing I did hear was that the truck suffered a few scrapes and dings, but the only equipment stolen was the auto vent and something else really odd.....I think it was the portable suction unit! They got lucky I guess.....
  23. No worries.... my first thought was that a CCFCCP (Coo-coo for co-coa puffs) individual got hold of the rig and took it for a 'fun' spin around town. This actually happened to my squad approx 10yrs ago. They pulled up to a row home for a pretty seriously ill Pt and when they came outside with the Pt, the truck was gone! We have the Norristown State Hospital grounds in our local. This is a state run mental facility consisting of approx 25 buildings for all types of mental illness and other people who have problems in society. ANYHOO..... a wonderful person from this facility was just released and was "safe for release to public".....yeah.... They caught that person after the person went on a nice ride throughout the city being chased by Pd!! On a more serious note, my second thought was the same as yours: use of the rig for terror. Lets all cross our fingers for the first thought....
  24. Hmmmm, good question on the plate number... I'll see if I can get it. No, this is not a joke. Why would I joke about this? I t was just on Action News and is also posted on Phillyfirenews if you don't believe me.
  25. So I just found out that a local EMS unit....Lafayette Ambulance, 317-2.... was just stolen from the Montgomery County E.D. unloading dock today in Pennsylvania. They have yet to find it. So far they dredged the nearby river because reports came in that an ambulance was seen being driven into the water there. They just called off that search w/o any results. Sooooo, uhhhhhh, welll...... if ya see a lovely new white and blue striped rig with gold lettering on the side stating the above squads name on it......ummm.....just let SOMEONE know! Will keep you posted and remember all, BE GOOD AND SAFE!!!!
