  1. It is true that I could live off of one salary, I suppose. Unfortunately, I'd be living in a pretty run down place, and I chose to live in a place that is safe....therefore Crotch, I work more than one job. I am single and have a mortgage as well as other bills.
  2. leave it.....old egg nog....BLAH......leaves an old bucket.....
  3. My full time organization frowns on shifts that are 24hrs. Its a very busy place and sleeping is NOT allowed. I think the NO sleep policy is dangerous, but if you're on the clock for only 12hrs, it shouldn't be a problem. One of my part time jobs allows up to 24hrs per shift, but no more. The part time gig is very slow and pays very well, so I don't have a problem being there for 24hrs...oh and they let you sleep, too! 8) The REAL problem around my way is that everyone around here knows you can't just work 1 EMS job and live off that salary. I work 3 different places: 1 full time and 2 part time. I know a lot of people who schedule themselves back-to-back, therefore being up for over 18-36hrs straight!!! That would not be the organizations issue if legal ramifications came down due to a medical provider not sleeping enough. The individual did that to themselves..... **RUFF: There's a book with the same title Rape of Europa, but not the same story line** good book!
  4. TAKE IT....its alcohol after all and I'll sure to mix it with some Ginger Ale. Wow, I must sounds like a lush after last night's GnT rants! LOL  Leave a box of old candy canes from last year I found in the closet with the decorations......
  5. HOLY CRAP... deer know how to drive ur way?!!?!?   Yea, that gin and tonic is really feeling kinda good right now..... I don't have great circulation to begin with, so my feet are constantly cold. They turn purple and ache in the winter. Cute, eh?
  6. ***boxes up squirrels for ITKU*** There ya go!! I'll leave the deck cause I already have a partner at work who isn't playing with a full deck and thats hazardous enough!!!! Leaves a yummy big glass of Sapphire Gin and Tonic with a twist of lime!
  7. take it.....I can give it to someone...REGIFTING QUEEN HERE!!! leave behind half eaten pumpkin off my front porch...thanks a lot you damn squirrels!!
  8. Well obviously if you try to put on 7 pairs of socks and can fit em into your boots then you're either a magician or just plain dumb!! Bring extra socks with you to change and wear two pair, not the thick chunkie type of wool socks....ok, well I am a woman. I wear girlie socks. First pair is thin, like dress socks, then I put on the thicker, warmer pair(s) as the day goes on...changing them when needed. Yes, circulation can/will be cut off if you're not smart about it....so just be smart about it. K, I'm going back to my gin and tonic cause THAT keeps me warm, too! off duty, of course. 8)
  9. Dwayne? you have chee chees? umm, wouldn't it be more appropriate to call em mee mees? The thing that bothers me the most are my feet. Plenty of spare socks!!! You can layer them up and shed them pretty quickly, plus you most definately want ot keep em toasty!!
  10. Take it... its heavy enough to hurt someone when I chuck at their head.....like....my partner?? Leave an invite to the Spa with me and my friends for this Tuesday...need a day of pampering!!!!?
  11. Welcome to EMTCity, Stretcher81. As far as being in this field, why? I'm not trying to dissuade you from it, but what exactly draws you to want to do this for a profession? Are you in the medical field somehow already, or is it something you only read/heard about? Either way, I'm glad you consider the medical field to be your calling. Are you an EMT yet? If not, that's what needs to be completed first. Getting information from your county emergency health services will probably be the best thing to do. They can help point you in the right direction as far as classes, costs, locations, career info, loans, grants, etc. Good luck!!! Please feel free to ask anything else you may need some help with. We're here if you need us. 8)
  12. :D/ WOOOOOO-HOOOO!!! Happy Birthday, man!! Sooo, uhhhh, you gonna get an ice pack for yer buttocks after you get 41 spanks??? Sorry, its all about the spanking today.....
  13. A Doc who wants to play hero?!??! Yikes, sounds scary to me. I have never given charcoal to anyone before. Apparently, from word of mouth by my co-workers next to me, we don't have to carry it in Pa in my county anymore. Take it with a grain of salt, though.... I'll have to look into that. Apparently a local instructor told an EMT class this not too long ago...... left field....coming back now... I like the ideas of mixing it tho, thank you!! God forbid i have to give it, I'll remember those now. I did once give Ipecac to a couple of babies who tried to eat some poisonous berries. WOW....WHAT A MESS>..... It was like that episode of Ipecac Family Guy combined with the Exorsist!!!!
  14. Awe, this makes my heart ache. That poor mother doesn't need to go to jail....she's going to serve a life sentence for what happened. From the sounds of it, she made a horrible mistake and now she lost her baby because of it. I don't think she needs to be lawfully reprimanded. As far as feeling cold and unattached, that honestly sounds like a normal response to a very abnormal situation. Cynical, a lot of times when we have calls where a child loses their life, it's very hard for people to comprehend. It isn't normal in our society nowadays for children to die. When it DOES unfortunately happen, we as humans need to seek a reason; a blame. Even though you feel that it isn't the mothers fault, you may feel like blaming her for her mistake, just like that other father who was mentioned in here. Try not to close yourself off to other patients who may be in need of your compassion during an ordeal which involves your professional care. If you didn't react the way you mentioned by closing up and didn't feel anything after a call like that, then I'd probably think there was something wrong with you!! Your reaction is normal. I'm very glad to see that you posted that you understand the mistake that mother made and realize that it was just that, a horrible, horrible mistake. Learn from it, don't close yourself off from it.
  15. If she is topless, are they real, or are they another set of 'balloons'?? Hmmm, she IS a democrat, so is her head all air, too??? Wow, I just knocked my own sex....but damn, its funny!!
  16. wellllll..... ok, spenac. JUST DON'T LET IT HAPPEN AGAIN OR YOU'LL GET A NAUGHTY SPANKING AND NO PRESENTS FROM SANTA, YOU HEAR ME YOUNG MAN!?!?!?! Yes, you made a wonderful attempt on getting back on track. Bottom line: 12 leads are a valuable asset to EMS providers. 8)
  17. Laurie, Good luck with your script! Is your patient suffering a type of head injury you want to portray as a concussion, or is a shock from a traumatic event, such as seeing Doczilla, uhhh I mean Godzilla, killing the other loved ones in the scene. LOL, sorry Doc... I had to... just HAAAAD to!! Anyhooo...sounds like it's going to be pretty interesting, but please do NOT dummy down our profession and make it out to be idiotic 'ambulance drivers' so many other films/shows have made it be. Perhaps doing a ride-a-long or a visit with a local EMS agency may give you a better understanding? Now, as aforementioned, the vision/point of view in the back of the ambulance is from the patients' view point, correct? An IV bag hanging, O2 mask in place, heart monitor beeping (like someone else mentioned), Pt feeling confused and cold because she will be getting exposed for assessment by the medical team, hands touching her body, making her very scared, she should be strapped down to one of those cold long hard boards with a VERY uncomfortable collar on her neck. Her head will be taped down. She won't be able to move... very claustrophobic. The sensation of cold, confused(due to in and out of consciousness), restrained, scared, angry all need to be considered.
  18. wow....once again, a thread has not only gone into left field, but damn near jumped the fence into a completely different ballgame!!!!!      LOL, anyway...  ..... Regardless of fire, fire/medic, medic, hose humper, box jockey, etc., the patient(s) who suffer from a medical condition(((since THATS what this thread is about))) deserve to have professional, competent care given to them. If you are a fire fighter as well as a medic, then I think thats great!! But if you CHOOSE to be a professional in both specialties, then please don't disrespect either side. Be the bigger person and treat both with respect, for if you cannot, then perhaps you shouldn't be on both sides. ALSO....just because someone decides to speak on behalf of the rest of the career personnel (whether fire side or medical side) doesn't make the entire group incompetent, only themselves. Please don't dummy yourself down to their level by being ignorant. Some wacko comes in the post and a lot of responses that were posted were truly shocking to me. Didn't expect that kind of talk from some of the people I held in higher regard here. Disappointed.
  19. Leave it, I have plenty of my own.... Leave behind jar full of jelly beans that are next to me cause I am SUPPOSED to be on a diet!!
  20. Interesting post. Thank you for posting because I feel a lot of people may learn a thing or two from it. That IS the reason we're all here, right???? So.....12 leads were a thing I was wary about due to not feeling like I could understand it completely, nor have I had anyone teach me a way of comprehending it better. I did, however attend a class the other week and was able to grasp a better concept of 12 leads. This instructor has a way of breaking it down and making it sooooo simple!!! Plus, the man was an absolutely wonderful speaker: funny, energetic, intelligent yet not belittling (like so many instructors can be), and just plain brilliant!! My point is this: lets not dumb down our profession. Just because you may not know something doesn't make it wrong, it just makes it a challenge. Medicine is an ever-changing field, so keeping up with it sometimes may be daunting. None the less, it's necessary. It's rewarding! It's REFRESHING!! 8) How many people here feel awesome after having someone explain something to you and BAM!!!!! It clicks!! You get it!! Then you go out and apply it......spreading the knowledge is just as rewarding!!! So again, THATS IS WHY WE ARE ALL HERE, RIGHT??? 8) ****BTW, this guy's seminar on 12 /15 lead interpretation filled up so fast, they had to ask the local hospital if we could use their lecture hall to fit all the medical personnel in the class. That to me is just plain AWESOME.****
  21. Those trolls are my bosses and I feel like the weee lil helpless kitten running for my life...LMAO, thats an awesome picture...love it!! ANYHOO......I'll definitely take my temper back. It's more with a overly dramatic flare of oozing sarcasm that keeps everyone at work amused so that they may get through the workday. Leaves behind a peacock feather.....kittens LOVE to play with them!!
  22. Take it......make the perfect X-mas gift for my a$$hole boss     Leave my X-mas bonus...OH WAIT!! in these hard economic times, we're all getting the shaft at work....geeeeeeee thanks guys. I'm sooo glad my job has turned into a friggin micromanaged organization of troglodytes. Hmmmm, lets leave behind my Web camera since I STILL can't get it to work....
  23. "......The lights are FLASHING....the gates are DOWN.....but there's NO TRAIN COMING!!!!!!" used this quote today for a patient of mine who was CCFCCP (Coo-Coo- For Co-Coa Puffs)   8)
  24. Sooooo, do we know anything about his health over the past fews days prior to the event? Is he on a diet? Has he been over-doing it at work...straining himself on the project? Due to his abnormal labs and rhabdo, they may be pointing in the direction of CPTII...?? just a guess 8)
