  1. Well yes and no. I look at myself and I feel soooo much better. Then again I have plenty of left over skin in places. I also have head hunger like you would not believe. I am actually starting to realize how much weight I have lost. For example I spent a lil bit today making a video of my journey. It is on you tube for those who care to see it.

    I hope this works

If this link dosent work go to you tube and type in " Nichole weight loss"

  2. First off PRAY. I do not know if you are religious, I am and I find prayer works for me and for the person(s) I am praying for. It helps me with strength I need to get the task done. If you are a praying gal take a deep breath and ask for your higher power to help guide you. (My choice is god.)

You have to focus on what you CAN do. You CAN help the victim, give them resources people who help people in that situation.

I sent you a PM. I wanted to post this in case it might give someone else an idea.

One thing I can recommend is going to a local DV shelter. Get some pamphlets and ask the staff questions. Ask them what they do how they help, and you as a provider can help them TO places like Free or reduced attys, child support places, medical ins, food stamps and financial aid, shelters and victims advocates and more.

Get some pamphlets and business cards and keep them with you to pass out. Sometimes they just need someone to listen. Let you know them that you care. Let them know you are concerned. It is a pretty low point when something bad happens to them. Use your best judgment when you are talking to a vic. Then use the appropriate card to pamphlet to hand them.

Also maybe recommend to the hospital that a social worker sees them if it is not standard with the recieving hospital.

I hope this helped. Good Luck.

  3. I recently Volunteered for the Red Cross I actually filled out my ppr wk a few days ago and I was going to talk to them about the Disaster Relief Team. I would be there in a heartbeat if I was not in school. :D

This is what I got in an e mail today if anyone wants it. Call your local Red Cross for their info, this is for Tacoma Washington.

As Tropical Storm Gustav stands poised to enter the Gulf of Mexico as a hurricane this weekend, the American Red Cross is preparing to assist residents in the storm’s path with evacuation shelters, feeding, and other needed services. The Red Cross is mobilizing both material and human resources in preparation.

Red Cross workers from across the country are traveling into the area. Hundreds of Red Cross mobile feeding trucks are being moved into Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama in addition to thousands of cots and blankets, tens of thousands of comfort kits and ready to eat meals. Our first priorities before and after landfall will be to ensure people have safe shelter, food, comfort items and emotional support.

In support of Red Cross disaster relief efforts, the American Red Cross Mount Rainier Chapter is reaching out to our community partners. Please ask your members if they would like become trained Red Cross disaster volunteers. All volunteers must fill out an application, pass a background check, receive an orientation, and be trained. They can start the application and training process now and take the necessary steps to volunteer locally or begin the training needed to go out on a national assignment.

Potential volunteers need to receive all the disaster training before any possibility of being sent out on a national Red Cross disaster relief assignment involving Tropical Storms Gustav, Hannah, or any other disaster. This does not guarantee that the volunteer will be deployed. As the need for additional volunteers increase for this and other disasters, those who are already have their paperwork processed and trained will be offered the opportunity to serve. Red Cross national disaster relief assignments are for three-week durations.

  4. Awesome Az. I was not able to have that option when I had it done (RNY). #1 Tricare did not cover it at the time. (I do not know if it does now). It is still a new enough procedure that the Army is not trained in (at least here at the MTF I went to.) As a matter of fact only 1 of the surgeons is even trained in the Lap Band procedure. He at the time I had mine done had only done 10 or so bands. This is the EXACT reason that I did not choose the band.

I had looked into the band however I needed that fear of the "dumping syndrome" to assist in my weight loss. I am at 90 lbs and still falling slowly. I think that it IS possible to work in EMS and have the surgery. Provided you make the choices that are good for you and assist in your new lifestyle.

  5. I agree it looks like hipaa. The fact that he did not use the gals name and used the area surrounding the incident. The medic in question not use any pertinent pt info on his page, thus it leads me to believer that this is mostly an idiot not thinking about this actions.

It looks to me that he just did not use his head. However I am wondering what hipaa rules were broken here. This is just a question. I am not starting any trouble on here I am simply trying to clarify the actual violations. I honestly am minimally familiar with the regs. (What is taught in Basic school)

  6. I was looking for some things online today and I came upon this. I am not too thrilled about what this guy did. I however can see where he was coming from in trying to prevent this from happening to other women and what to do IF god forbid it happens . I realize it is a bit older but there is a post on here recently about a myspace for emts. What do ya all think?

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - A Portland rape victim is suing a local ambulance paramedic who posted details about the attack on his MySpace Internet page.

She contends the paramedic invaded her privacy by posting the approximate location, what she said about her knife-wielding assailant and his description.

The lawsuit in Multnomah County Circuit Court contends the posting led TV reporters to her door, prompted neighborhood reconnaissance and may have impeded the police investigation.

The suit, filed on behalf of "Jane Doe," names both the paramedic's ambulance company, American Medical Response, and the paramedic, Simon P. Green.

She was raped and beaten at her Southeast Portland apartment Feb. 15. Green was dispatched to provide emergency medical care and take her to a hospital.

On March 4, according to the suit, Green wrote on his MySpace site how the stranger followed the woman into her apartment and sexually assaulted her.

On his MySpace site he suggested victims should fight off attackers if confronted by a knife or carry a gun.

"My advice: fight. It's only a knife, and any rapist is a coward who will probably turn tail at any resistance," his posting read.

Portland police have released no details of the assault, which remains under investigation. No arrest has been made.

Portland Detective Sue Fachini interviewed the paramedic. According to the lawsuit, Green told police he didn't think what he posted violated confidentiality laws because he didn't name the victim.

The detective told Green that the information on his posting could compromise the investigation, especially if the suspect saw the posting and tried to destroy evidence.

She told Green the victim had an expectation of privacy while she was riding in the ambulance.

The paramedic apologized to the detective, saying he was only trying to "get the word out" so other women would have an opportunity to protect themselves.

The victim is seeking economic damages for missing work, obtaining counseling and having to move, as well as non-economic damages for emotional distress, physical illness and loss of sleep.

She accuses Green and the ambulance company of violating her protected information, citing federal privacy rules.

Police determined Green did not break a law. "There's no crime in what this guy did," spokesman Sgt. Brian Schmautz said, "it's just morally reprehensible." (Copyright 2007 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)

  7. I was told to provide proof before I even could enroll in school. I like it better that way. I prefer to be immunized against hep b BEFORE I even come in contact with it or any other communicable diseases.

Immunizations are just that, preventative and if you happen to come into contact with something then you are safe. I would not wait on NO ONE to "issue" these to me. Personally it is YOUR career field YOU chose to enter and YOU should be liable to protect yourself. That is the #1 thing I learned in school personal safety. (and bsi ect) JMHO.

  8. Why not take the puppy to a dog trainer? Probably just a couple of visits and the puppy will be much more fun.

Something that works good to get dogs attn while bad behavior is going on is to place a couple of pennys in an empty washed out coke can. When you see the dog start to be bad shake it while saying no firmly.

The puppy trainers will not let us enroll her until she is 10 weeks old. We are already registered for that class.

I like the penny idea. Thanks !! Will try that as soon as we get a can available.

  9. As far as putting her down I DO AGREE it is a drastic thing to do. I will avoid that at all costs. However I am trying to be a responsible pet owner here. I want it to be the discipline that works.

I am honestly feeling like this is asking for a lawsuit. If it happens again I'm phuked. We live on a military base and it is not like the "outside world" rules are strict in here. Not only can my husband get into trouble he can loose his rank or worse. I do not want it to happen again. It is hard to not be upset here. This is my puppy and she hurt my little girl. I do not know if it was on purpose or not.

On a side note just to clarify. I stated in my previous post that my daughter was NOT unattended, there was an adult outside with her. My DD was behind a tree and my friend did not see what happened.

I do not expect a baby to learn immediately what is ok to do and not ok. I understand that kids and puppies need to be taught on acceptable and unacceptable behavior. It is a learning process for her and I, we are still learning each other. She is still trying to learn what she can and cannot get away with.

I have tried the water spray bottle thing she likes it. She will lick it off of her face and it does not stop the behavior. She will go right back to doing it, even after a firm NO when I sprayed her.

I will try the newspaper thing and hopefully this crap stops. I am not in the mood for a lawsuit. :?

  10. I was thinking that. However I am not sure it will teach her NOT to bite just prevent it. I mean she is still a puppy 7 weeks. She has to be taught NOT to bite. She is still little enough to train her not to bite/nip.

    I hope that makes sense.

We DO tell her in a loud/ stern voice NO and DO NOT BITE OUCH that hurts, and BE NICE. We kennel her when she is mis behaving ect...

  11. I came in here because my little girl was bitten by our puppy today. I am at a loss as to what to do.

First a lil hx. We got out puppy about a week and a half ago. She is now 7 weeks old. The ppl we got her from used to let her play by growling/nibbling. We have been trying to break her of that. So far she is learning, she has yet to master the no biting/puppy bites. She listens ok otherwise. She had not broken skin before today.

She loves to play. Yesterday she was playing with a lil boy and nipping at him (he is 2) and the lil boy was crying I went over to him and swatted my puppy on her ass, yelled and told her no. The lil boy was ok, however when she started nipping at him he was running and laughing hence the puppy thought he was trying to play.

She did stop after I swatted her. I put her in her kennel for her behavior. She has nipped at this lil boy before and was told not to bite him. It has been twice now that she got this one kid. He was not injured AT ALL just a lil scared because when he was trying to get away she was jumping up on him.

Today I was making my DD lunch and my friend was outside watching the kids. The puppy was outside with the kids. My DD was sitting behind a tree so it was hard to witness the event. I guess she was sitting by the tree and holding her puppy and playing (DD is 4 btw). I do not know for sure if the puppy bit her. She said she did bite her but after she said the puppys head hit her.

DD now has a small lac on her upper lip. We took her to the ER and they put a stitch in it. Mainly I took her cause the puppy has not had shots. We have to wait til she is 8 weeks old. Plus DD said she had lost feeling in the lip. It was pretty deep before it clotted up. Like I said it is not really bad. Pretty minor.

My concern is this puppy has gotten kids before. Granted she is just a baby, we are doing our best to make sure this NEVER happens again. I have half a mind to put her down. But she is only a puppy and I do not believe that she intentionally hurt my dd or that other kid. I want to be a good and responsible pet owner and I am at a loss.

    Just constructive advice please.

  12. One thing I do not understand. (please keep in mind I have a 4 y/o.) These mats are made for safety right? Then what happens if a child falls and breaks his leg. Mom hears him/ her cry. The child is sitting or laying on these mats with a broken leg. (Child has shoes on) however he/she has shorts on. Mom or dad says get up honey and not realizing childs leg is broken and now burnt after 5 seconds. Thus making mom/dads response time a lil longer because they did not realize IMMEDIATELY that their child was on a hot surface.

This does not make sense to me. They are not safe for falls either. Yes they may cushion it but who cares about a lil padding when you ass is roasting?

I am happy I live on a military post that is too cheap to pay soo much money for the mats. I would rather my lil girl play on pebbles and sand or wood chips than that stuff. That is just me tho. I would much rather pick out a splinter or 2 or shake her shoes out from the sand then putt burn cream on her body.

As far as the croc things go. My 4 yo has them too children do take them off with super fast speed. She also NEVER wears shoes unless we are out in public. I hate shoes and so does she. I only require them off of our property.

  13. This post has it's points but I now think about when I went to the drs 2 days ago for my knees. I have a hx of knee probs.

I am allergic to asa, I have had GBP and there for it is contraindicated to have ibuprophen in GBP pts because of the risk of ulcers and the change in anatomy. Subsequently from the bypass my pancreatic enzymes are higher and my alts are elevated. I am not to take tylenol either because it does not help my liver. I sure as hell am not a drug seeker. I know it likely looks like it, but I got an anti inflamatory that is awesome. So no pain killers for me.

This post has me concerned a bit tho. I understand there is significant amount of drug seekers, and it can be easy or hard to spot. However if I was a pt of someone on this board (or anyones pt for that matter) I likely would be treated as a seeker and not given the amnt of care I deserve.

That said it is a little odd that someone would be "allergic" to ALL forms of non "high" producing meds. However it can be contraindicated in someone such as myself. Not that I have an allergy to them. I sure will take some if that is all that is available at the time. Usually it is within something ie day-quil. I do try to keep away from it.

Use your judgement please do not assume. Do research on what your pts tell you it might be BS or it might be helpful and it never hurts to learn something new. You might see that pt again and actually call their bluff OR you might actually be able to give the pt better care because you are informed about something new.

  14. It was an ok website. I did not look at the page or realize that it is being redone. It was alright. There was not a chat I think they are putting one in.

It is nice to have more than one place to go. It will likely get deleted.
