Paramedics working blend hospital/ambulance

Lets not kid ourselves too much ... the delivery of "Primary Care" is not included in the present curriculum's. In Canada of course implementing ACP in ERs is improved utilization model and especially in rural settings. Mobey may have a real challenge on his hands to convice and plow new fields (sorry farming community analogy) :innocent:

Unfortunatly with Nursing rather a domineering factor there would be many hurdles to overcome, as we observed Alberta Health "include" ACP level to assist in Vaccination/immunization clinics for H1N1 ...(well on paper) but in reality this did not occur as Public Health Care Nursing was a bit of a "stick in the mud" <insert stronger language if so desired>

A long road to travel until we actually step foot in the door as Medics, well other than a "mini" triage/hall holding area and pre Nursing ER Triage as Calgary trialled, this concept was used to release multiple trucks to get back on the Road, not to be a functioning care giver as Paramedics within the confines of the Hospital.

The DIPROM the Diploma of Remote and Offshore Medicine, based out of University of Edinburgh does deal with this subject matter ie (Primary Care) for those in the "remote and more austere settings" granted many of the providers offshore are ex Royal Navy RN (s)

Will it happen oh I believe so .. WHEN is a bigger Question, we really should look over the big pond to what the UK is doing ... treating patients in the field and not stacking patients like cord wood in the hallways as we love to do in Kanukistan.

cheers
