Is it me or are most of FDNY EMT/Medics miserable?


Is voluntary 911 ambulances a bad thing in NYC?

Personally, I feel EMS (as an industry) is still growing, and much needs to be done to advance the field. Maybe one day we will be better respected by the public and other healthcare professionals. Maybe then we can lobby (this would require cooperation) for professional status.

Plus 5 for actually getting it right, and in the right order.

Professional status is something that cannot be given. It is something we have to earn. And until we do a whole lot to improve the field ourselves, there is not the slightest chance that the government is going to recognise us as professionals.
