does age matter for getting hired in ambulance service?

I am 20 yrs old and I hoping to get my EMT-B certification soon. I have always heard, from where I don't know but that you have to be at least 21 to get hired on an ambulace service. Is this true? I have always heard it is because of insurance and the cost.

It depends on location, type (911 vs IFT vs combined, dual basic vs basic/medic, volly vs paid), and need (how many basics do we need, this ties into type) mostly. You need to be 21 at most companies to drive and most good companies won't hire basics till they can drive.

My service will hire at 18, but you are much less likely to be hired if you are >21 than if you are 21 and over.

We do not hire anyone less than age 23 due to insurance reasons.

you can get your cert here at 18 and run most ambo services in my area are volly.But the paid private will take you also but usually after 6 mos or so of street time
