Saline Locks Instead of IV's on Patients

I too ,Spock was taught, 20g was the smallest gage allowable to administer blood, until I visited a NICU unit. Large bore to them was a 24g... I asked about administering blood, they described going administering through it (of course a lot slower rate) and the volume as well was very small. They reported they had no major damage to the RBC's.. kinda had to think on that one, and look outside the norm..
