I can see the problem - sure, they likely have proper PPE on the fireground, but what about after, when driving back to the station? When they have to be in close quarters with a bunch of Cro-Magnons like the ones up thread? I wouldn't want any part of me on display. You can deny it all you want, but women exist in a state of pre-porn in our society (a woman is always evaluated on whether she is 'hot' or what would need to be done to make her 'hot' as evidenced by the replies to this thread) and to be taken seriously need to be on constant guard against becoming "porn-ized" and seen as a victimizable target... which would happen with a t-shirt that becomes transparent upon becoming soaked. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Humans, both Male & Female are sexual beings. Men tend to be more open about where they will discuss the members of the opposite sex & how. Even the most innocent seeming females are crazy perverts. Guys are the same way like you said. Not all guys are as open as others, just like some women aren't as others. As for the uniforms, they should just dress in layers like it is recommended. That woman in the picture, the shirt she is wearing, a NOMEX forestry firefighting shirt. I have one just like it from when I was doing wild land firefighting. I put it on, and got into the shower (yes, I was bored). It was hardly see through, even with me just wearing that shirt. If I had on a dark colored shirt on under it (like it is recommended) it would have not been a problem. Also, wear a bra! Even thin normal shirts aren't see through when when and wearing a bra. Changing the uniform may or may not should be an option. Maybe the females can get a different color or material (such as PBI or something). But I really don't see the fuss. I have been on many forest fires where we have had water dropped on us. You lie down, face down to avoid injury the best you can. You don't stand there waiting for it.. that would be stupid. Trust me, when they look like the woman in the article, the evaluation stops abruptly. She could drop trou and nobody would even turn to look.
