So what are the approved methods of administration?

I've seen Soilumedrol come two different ways.... one by itself and you have to out a filter needle on a syringe and draw some saline out of the bag you just hung and mix it with the power contents. The most common way hospital pharmacies give it to me is in the unmistakable bottle with the orange "stopper" between the powder on one side and the saline on the other. Very user-friendly to mix and administer IVP. I like the fact Solumedrol could never be confused with anything else in your drug box... i.e. the smaller ampules of epi and MS04 for instance.

Its use for spinal cord injuries is still controversial for EMS, but according to PHTLS it has been shown to improve neurologic outcomes within 8 hours of injury. A common dose is 30mg/kg bolus, followed by 5.4mg/kg infusion for a couple days.

Within the last few years, my state replaced Solu-Medrol 125mg with Solu-Cortef 100mg. Asthma/COPD, Anaphylaxis, and it's also in the Shock protocol if the patient has a history of adrenal insufficiency. I've given it once for an asthmatic out of an MD's office that was not resolving.

Yes I know but wasn't it nice to discuss something medical rather than bashing everyone for a change. :o I have grown tired of the banter and want to see some educational posts again like there once were here. Heck the site so many here make fun of has been more educational of late.

Thank you. I am all for fun and some good old bashing but dang the last little while doesn't seem anything productive was covered either that or I missed them during clinicals.
