Fox has provided a very nice summary of the situation here in Texas. The only thing I would disagree with is that dual-medic systems are a rare luxury. In fact, most fire based systems are dual-medic, as are a good amount of rural county systems. If dual medic systems were hard to find, I'd never have found a job.
